I read a book many years ago (in the 90s) and I can't remember what the title of it was. I swear it was called "The Last Unicorns" or something similar. The story is about the end of the world, similar to the Noah's Ark story only set in present day. I remember the main character was a woman and she was riding a train. It was really, really foggy and had been for several weeks. She meets a guy who invites her to meet his family. The family has built an ark and has been collecting two of every animal, including two unicorns. At some point, one of the unicorns gets away and they aren't able to collect two before the floods. Any information about this book is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I second Unicorns in the Rain. I remember that it starts on a train, and the girl tries to save a guinea pig this woman is carrying in a small cage, because she loves animals, but the train is so crowded that it suffocates. Also, everyone wears flak jackets and helmets, for safety. The family is even named after Noah's sons: Ham, Shem, and Jay (Japheth). Such a fun book.
It is! It is the book! Thank you SO MUCH! You know, I read this book back when I was in high school and it was one of those that the story has always stuck with me. You know it's a good book when you are still thinking about it 17 years later. :-)
