is it only me who finds the currently followed method for creating alternate cover editions quite cumbersome?
Basically, one is asked to re-duplicate manually information which is already in the system. Why not have a "clone" button which will do the necessary extraction of information for you, taking care of the "combine" at the same time?
Furthermore, because ISBNs cannot be duplicated, the only link-back to the original edition is informal (the note is free text, after all) only and will not display in shelf lists, which may cause additional pain. A more structured approach, e.g. an additional field "original ISBN", could handle that nicely.
Have such things already been proposed? Should I post that in the Feedback group instead? Just trying to get a feeling...
Yes, as a feature change this would be something for the Feedback group, but it's actually already known and on the list. You can bring it up again, but that's pretty much what you'll get in response, I'd expect.
