Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments You should watch the show Arushi, and you need to finish Dance cos, honestly, it gets really good at the end! The final third of the book really picks up, but I know it's a long slog through Feast and the first six or seven hundred pages of Dance to get there.

I'm going to reread the whole series at some point, maybe later this year. I've loaned all my books to someone right now, so it'll probably be a few months before I get them back.

Anna | 1680 comments Lannister wrote: "I've got to give big respect to the actor that plays Joff, cos even just looking at that smug, self-satisfied face makes my blood boil and I want to punch him repeatedly!!"

That's so true - I saw the GOTlcalender when I was looking for Christmas presents and couldn't bring myself to buy it because of Joff's January photo!
The child actors in the series are all pretty good!I hate Sansa too!

message 154: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Ada-Lee, yeah, I think you're right about Season Two on DVD. Season Three starts on TV at the end of March.

Anna, LOL, they probably just put Joff as Mr January cos 1) January is always the crappiest month of the year and 2) it gets him out of the way!

I don't actually mind the actress that plays Sansa, but I think I'm influenced by book Sansa. I despised her early on with all her fairy-tale fantasies, but I started to like her a lot more as the series went on. Frankly, I blame her parents for encouraging her in these beliefs and keeping her insulated from the realities of her world!

Eyehavenofilter | 86 comments That was the culture... Remember, Ned tried to do that w/ Arya , while they were sitting on the steps, and she would have none of it. It was just that Sansa was living' the dream and Arya had a plan of her own. Thats why we all love Arya so much.... She's a determined, stubborn little bugger.

message 156: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments I don't know if I'd say it was the culture exactly ... I think it was Ned & Cat's culture maybe. I mean, someone like Cersei Lannister grew up with that culture, but you get the feeling that she was never as innocent as Sansa.

When I think of Sansa, I compare her to some kids you see whose parents are so over-protective and won't let their kids do anything. Sansa isn't the most assertive or adventurous person (and I'm not judging her for that), but she was content to live in her cosy little bubble. So, when she finally had to face the real world, she was completely unprepared for it and she made some bad decisions early on because she believed that people were basically good and would do the right thing. But, to her credit, she's now accepting how the world really is, and she's learning fast. The thing I like about Sansa is that despite going through hell at the hands of Joff and Cersei, she's never become bitter or lost her humanity. She hangs onto a kind heart, but is far more worldly-wise now. Well, that's my impressions of her anyway. :)

Arya was always a different personality to Sansa and she wanted to get out there and see how the world worked. So, discovering treachery and deceit and that people do bad things wasn't as big a shock to her.

Honestly, of the two of them, Arya is actually the one I worry about more. She becomes colder and more indifferent every day (ADwD spoiler) (view spoiler)

message 157: by Eyehavenofilter (new)

Eyehavenofilter | 86 comments True, true, I worried about them both....I wonder if they will be forced to face off in the end? That would be typical GRRM torture.

message 158: by Anna (last edited Feb 16, 2013 09:00AM) (new)

Anna | 1680 comments I've not looked at the DwD spoiler as I haven't read that one yet.
@Ada-Lee I think Sansa was quite delusional in the early books but then she was a teen with a dream! Still she caused Lady's death! I'm curious to know if Littlefinger will cure her of her nativity. I think her aunts behaviour and death might have made quite an impact too.

message 159: by Eyehavenofilter (new)

Eyehavenofilter | 86 comments DWD put my faith back in the series after slogging through the 4th book I wanted to compose a temporary GRRM reading hiatus note. But not wanting to be a quitter ( sigh) and I just loved so many of the characters....( damn it!)
I forged on....sword and buckler in tow. It was worth it, sort of. I have faith after reading several chapters GRRM has posted here and there.....
All I can say is PUBLISH THE NEXT DAMNED BOOK ALREADY!
There I feel better now....( deep breath...) I'll wait but not patiently.

message 160: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Anna, I think Sansa is growing up fast and she's left her childish illusions behind. She's learning to be quite the manipulator from Littlefinger and I think she'll go far. And maybe she'll prove to be another of GRRM's 'turnarounds' where you go from hating to loving a character (or vice versa).

Ada-Lee, about the end of Dance, I agree that it gives me high hopes for future books. I think GRRM lost control of the story a little in Feast and it took most of Dance to get it back on track again. The books finishes on a major high and I cannot wait to find out what happens next (view spoiler)

Damn this blasted thing.

message 163: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments LOL, I've been flagged before by mistake and they haven't kicked me out yet, so don't worry! :D I think it probably happens all the time.

My biggest bitch about touchscreens is when I accidentally click on an ad instead of on a link near it. It's so annoying!

Arushi | 3652 comments Lannister wrote: "You should watch the show Arushi, and you need to finish Dance cos, honestly, it gets really good at the end! The final third of the book really picks up, but I know it's a long slog through Feast ..."

On my To Do List, I promise. The damned list is just too long though!!!

message 165: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments I think you'll kick yourself when you get to the end that you didn't finish it sooner! :)

Arushi | 3652 comments Lannister wrote: "I think you'll kick yourself when you get to the end that you didn't finish it sooner! :)"

Probably. I won't argue with you on that one.... but its so hard to start Dance again. Maybe once after I finish Red Seas Under Red Skies but no promises. I have started watching TV shows again and Spartacus is damned addictive...

message 167: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments LOL I never got round to starting to watch Spartacus. Even though it has naked men! What the hell's wrong with me? :o

Arushi | 3652 comments Lannister wrote: "LOL I never got round to starting to watch Spartacus. Even though it has naked men! What the hell's wrong with me? :o"

What the hell's wrong with you? It has lots of good-looking naked men! but that is hardly the point...
It has a really good story, and its just so damned well done. Lannie!!! You have to see!!!

Have you seen ROME? Its like a modern version of that, with lots more blood, gore and nakedness involved. And less temples. Gotta respect more swearing and less offering to the Gods at every step.

message 169: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments It's my TV aversion again. I don't watch programmes that I'd probably enjoy. Oh well. *shrugs*

Arushi | 3652 comments Lannister wrote: "It's my TV aversion again. I don't watch programmes that I'd probably enjoy. Oh well. *shrugs*"

Hummm.. fair enough. but... maybe see the plot summary (for a season or an episode) to see if you would really like it? Still if you cannot watch TV it is a lost cause I guess.

message 171: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments So I finished clash of kings last night...

I was really glad when Theon died. That boy was an idiot. Stupid idiot.

I kinda wish I knew what was going on with Robb. Was he going to make a deal?

I do kinda feel for Sansa now--and her speech to the people was pretty good. She would make a great queen.

I was glad Bran and Rickon didn't die. When I first read it, I thought it was kind of senseless. I was like "well how does that advance the story?" but then it made sense.

I totally see more and more of Lannister's obsession with Jamie. He's a douche. But there is something honorable about his douchiness. I do think he was cold to Catelyn, but that's how he is. I really liked the line "It’s too much. No matter what you do, you’re forsaking one vow or the other.”

Now that Jon is hanging out with the wildlings, is he gonna have sex? LOL don't answer that it's rhetorical.

I'll have more thoughts later :)

message 172: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments That scene with Jaime and Catelyn in Riverrun is one of my favourite scenes in the whole series. That's when I first really started to worship Jaime. He was just a sexy badass before that! But, yeah, it makes you realise that there's a lot more to him than we'd seen so far. Oh, and my favourite line in the history of literature .... "There are no men like me. There's only me." I may have drooled a little first time I read that!! :D

I can't make any comments about some of the other things you've said ... you need to keep reading!!

message 173: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Just came across this .... for the people who have finished Dance, GRRM recently read a couple of chapters from Winds at some event he was attending. They are from Barristan's POV and you can read a summary of them here:

http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/...

message 174: by Anna (new)

Anna | 1680 comments Jaimee 'an honourable douche' LOL

message 175: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments There are two things I'm confused about:

The story the wildling told Jon--what was the point of it? Is it something we'll find out later or something I missed?

The dream Bran had... about the horse eating his brother... I didn't get that one either.

message 176: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Sorry, I can never remember what happened in each book. Which story in particular are you talking about with the wildling and Jon? And I'm blanking about a dream about a horse eating Bran's brother?! Was it Rickon it ate, or Robb? When did this happen?

message 177: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments Sorry--the wildling told Jon a story about an ancient stark and his affair with some wildling--and teases jon that he is the same as wildlings.

The horse eating another horse... This happened while Bran and crew were still in the tombs.

message 178: by Eyehavenofilter (new)

Eyehavenofilter | 86 comments Woah.....I don't remember either of those things....oh Lord please don't make me go back and read these books for a third time! I just CAN'T!
Give me page#'s and I'll go back and read parts and pieces....

I remember the first part. I think the point of it is to show that the Wildings are not as different as they are made out to be. It is also to show that the Wall is not to keep them out - but that is just an added side-effect. Nothing less, nothing more.

The dream - I can't remember it either. Jesus.. You have to tell the page number and chapter Zeenat. Now I also need to read that part.. and I cannot read the book again.

message 180: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments okay I reread the horse story, and realized I misunderstood it. It wasn't a horse eating a horse, but Bran's (the wolf version) brother eating the horse. Eeesh :)

message 181: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments Zeenat wrote: "okay I reread the horse story, and realized I misunderstood it. It wasn't a horse eating a horse, but Bran's (the wolf version) brother eating the horse. Eeesh :)"

hummm in that case maybe it was just Summer doing actual eating and Bran seeing through his eyes?

message 182: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments I think it was shaggy dog. Because Bran is summer, and summer was watching his brother eat a horse. LOL

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments The trailer for Season Three is out!! Watch it here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=...

I can't wait!!

(And Jaime still has his beard. Cos that's the most important thing, right?!)

message 188: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments Oh I can't see... Haven't read book 3 yet. I think I'm going to read book 3 and then watch season 2. I can't really watch season 3 unless I can find it "bootleg"... but I still want to read it before everyone starts watching it.

message 189: by Eyehavenofilter (new)

Eyehavenofilter | 86 comments Wow what a trailer....so wish I had HBO!

message 190: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments I started reading 3 finally. I like Jaime pov... And I like him more and more. I see why Lannister is obsessed with him. I may become obsessed to!

Although, I also started watching season 2, and I was surprised by how attractive Jaqen H'ghar was LOL. I'm sad he's only a one season character!

message 191: by Eyehavenofilter (new)

Eyehavenofilter | 86 comments We shall have to wait and see.... Perhaps he shows up in WOW? Wouldn't that be a GRRM mind f%€k!

We're totally on the same page here, Zeenat! Jaime gets better and better. In fact, his chapters were about the best parts of Feast for Crows. And Jaqen ... hmmmm! Mello will be along in a minute too, I'm sure! :D

I don't think we've seen the last of Jaqen either. Saying no more.

message 193: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments I feel bad for him. I just read his chapter where he talks about how he became a kingsguard and eventually the kingslayer... and Cersei was playing him from day one. He's so lovesick, he doesn't see what she made him into! If she wasn't in the picture, he'd be all righteous. Well, kinda.

And oooh I do not trust Shae. This chapter I just read, made it even more obvious she's just using tyrion for his status/power. She's gonna rat out tyrion isn't she? I bet she is. Hopefully Lord Tywin kills her. lol

message 194: by Eyehavenofilter (new)

Eyehavenofilter | 86 comments Oh Shea oh Shea ....you bad bad girl you. I won't spoil it for you Zeenat.
Just keep on reading.....and hang into your Meisters chain for dear life!

message 195: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments LOL! :D

Zeenat, I really want to talk about this stuff with you, but I'm terrified of giving anything away accidentally. Come back when you've finished Storm, cos I cannot wait to discuss!

message 196: by Eyehavenofilter (new)

Eyehavenofilter | 86 comments I thought you'd like that Lannister! But I didn't want to give it away.
Red herring alert!

message 197: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments A quarter of the way through. Tyrion and Sansa!?!? You know... it actually isn't a bad match. Sansa has already learned that looks does not guarantee a good man, maybe she'll learn to love him... If they even get that far.

I have a feeling I know who's going to die in this book...
