I would never want to be a vampire for people who want to be a vampire doesn't the fact that your murdering people or animals for their blood and thats the only way you will survive. Also the fact that you will be live forever and all your friends and family will all die while you will be living for eternity. You just keep watching people come in and out of your life and you will always just be in the middle of it. I guess I have read a lot of books on vampires and the idea disgusts me. At time I do wish I had a gift to freeze time or rewind time but being a vampire... ya no. Why do you want to be a vampire or don't? Also to make this more of both twilight and all vampires discussion: Bella is stupid for wanting to be a vampire just saying.

lol agreed

Nichola WOW, glass half empty kind of person. Personally, the idea is appealing but in reality (a fictional reality) if I was ever offered the opportunity I would turn it down because for me the cons outweigh the pros.

Like it or not there are some definite positives to becoming a vampire. For instance, time. How much time would you have to do the things you want to do. For me there are too many books in the world and too much information to learn in such a short life time. Musical instruments, I'm never going to learn all of the one's I want to learn and doubt I will play any to the standard I'd like to. Languages. How many could you learn when you have forever. To be able to spend all that time interacting with people, learning about their cultures and differenced, to see the world evolve. Definitely a pro for me (although suspect sooner or later interacting with people as groups would become tedious.) As for killing people, there are a fair few I wouldn't feel guilty of bumping off. (read paedophiles, murderers etc) Probably be more upset about the animals but, unless you are a vegetarian (ironically I am) animals die every day for the human food chain. If you have forever its possible to source enough butchers to buy the blood from as animal blood is available to buy in certain countries. Biggest problem there, is someone getting suspicious as to what you're doing with all the blood. Then again if you have eternity, I'm sure you could become proficient enough in a job which could cover the animal blood use. Ergo, no extra animals killed purely for you.

Cons, definitely family and friends being left behind, and to be honest this is the one thing which out weighs all of the pros for me. What is life without family and friends. As for Bella, I'm not sure she wanted to be a vampire so much as she wanted Edward. Becoming a vampire was a means to an end. She realised at some point that she would age and he wouldn't and was paranoid about being even a year older than he was. Personall, I found Bella to be quite weak as a lead character but, the books were aimed at teens and I am currently 31 so I will give them the benefit of the doubt :)

M.R. Graham I don't see how that's different from murdering animals for their flesh. Of course, it's possible for a human to be legitimately vegetarian; for vampires, even Meyerpires, that just wouldn't work.
In Bella's case, I think it was largely out of sympathy for Edward, who would have had to watch her die if she remained human. Personally, I wouldn't be too keen on outliving my family by so long, but it probably helped that she didn't have any friends.

u kno ppl who see the 'glass half empty' or worse yet, depressed ppl, actually have a better sense of whats real than normal 'mentally healthy ppl'. its been scientifically proven.

That's sort of why The Cullen's call themselves Vegitarians because they hunt animals vs humans...kinda like humans that eat veggies vs meat. Same concept!

LOL Although I MUST agree with you on this one, only in Twilight do vampires sparkle. ALl other vampire mythology indicates sun as instant death. SO I think I'd prefer the sparkling to instant ashes...

Well I mean I understand your point of view its just that if we think about actual vampires they just drink the blood right what would happen to the animal/human they would just decay or something. Doesn't seem gruesome drinking BLOOD for survival? Am I the only one disgusted by that in general. I would hate to never be able to eat my favorite foods again. Also as I mentioned above you would live forever and you would watch your friends and family just dying and you will just have people come and go in your life for eternity and you will just stay in the middle of that. I guess I'm just the only one that would never want to be a vampire for many reasons. If you actually analyze it sure there is so many things that are good about it; however, I feel the cons outweigh the pros on this subject. Also lets think about it theoretically if a large amount of human population as in lets say the people on the other discussion say they would love to be a vampire wouldn't they eventually run out of blood and then they will cease to exist. ANd yes I know vampires don't exist.

Just an insert... sunlight-instant-death is actually a very new invention in vampire lore. While it's gained a lot of popularity recently, that aspect of the myth was only invented in 1922, and was actually the result of viewers misunderstanding the scene in Nosferatu when the Count is killed by a woman's sacrifice, coincidentally at the moment of sunrise.
Prior to that, the general idea was that vampires were nocturnal in the same way as owls or bats. They came out at night because that's when scary things happen, rather than because the sun actually deterred them.

As an aside, the Google header today is an awesome Dracula bit for Bram Stoker's 165th birthday!

Pretty scary to think the human race to be extinct because of some vampire obsession. They could always get smart and breed us and/or animals like that movie. Im sure they'd find a way to survive. Im with you as to staying human although the blood thing doesnt disturb me i used poke my stab all the time and play with my cuts :) ehh tomboy but i would like to live my life and leave peacefully as it should be.

Thanks for the response (genuine not sarcastic as text can sometimes take away the intention behind the words)The world needs a full spectrum of people from glass half empty right through to glass half full. My comments were not to insinuate there was anything wrong with pessimism but, there is no proof that depressed people are more realistic, on the contrary depression has nothing to to with optimism or pessimism. Depression is linked to having more demands placed upon you than resources to cope with them.

You seem to be glass half full :) Looking for the upsides to pessimism. Truth is, neither is right or wrong it just is. Not too sure where you got your information on how realisting people are but who ever did the research really needs to come and speak to some of my clients if they believe depression equates to a more realistic view of the world. Trouble is with any science or psychology, no matter what one says there is always someone to contradict. If your claim was true it would be easy to help people out of their depressive states and, unfortunately, it can be a long hard battle for them :( None of my comments are aimed at being aggressive or argumentative and I hope they don't come across that way. :)

Shantel I'd want to be a vampire so I could go find Edward, make him fall in love with me, and get married. That's why.

Jessica Nichola wrote: "Like it or not there are some definite positives to becoming a vampire. For instance, time. How much time would you have to do the things you want to do."

You'd have until the end of time, correct, but how long do you think it would take you before you've done everything there is to do, seen everything there is to see? It wouldn't take long at all to become bored with the world because there is literally nothing you haven't done.

Jessica Heidi wrote: "Anita wrote: "I would never want to be a vampire for people who want to be a vampire doesn't the fact that your murdering people or animals for their blood and thats the only way you will survive. ..."

That's not exactly the same concept. They are still drinking blood. When humans are vegetarians, they don't eat meat. The Cullens aren't vegetarians because they're still drinking blood, just a different type of blood. That's like saying you're a vegetarian and yet you eat fish.

np. thank u 4 ur comment about the pessism/depression disticntion. (not sarcastically) ur right. there hasnt but hard facts on it but theres a scientific theory that depressed people see the world more accurately than healthy minded people. i think the theory is called 'depressive realism' or something like that.

*laughs* im not a glass half full person. quite the opposite rlly. im a fairly depressed person. ok, really. after i moved my i kept in touch with a friend, this was right when i started becoming depressed. i txted her and eventually she said she didnt know me i was so depressed. some ppl say im 2 hard on myself. honestly, i think its more that they are just ignoring everything wrong with me when i see it loud and clear. im quite pessimistic and depressed. i am not a glass half full kinda person. im just trying to cling to teeny threads of hope.

The factors you choose to point out aren't all that strange, even for average humans.

Many people kill animals for food, as others have pointed out.

all your friends and family will all die while you will be living
This happens all the time also. It's unfortunate, but it happens. It's an unavoidable fact of life.

You just keep watching people come in and out of your life and you will always just be in the middle of it.
Yup, this happens all the time also. People don't even have to die for it to happen.
If you're really young, then I can understand why you don't see it. the older you get, the more frequently people pass in and out of your life. And you're just "in the middle". People lose touch with each other. It's natural.

For me, the appeal of the idea is to actually have the time to experience everything, not to keep everything exactly as it is, forever.
I would like for MORE people to pass in and out of my life. Not to keep the same company forever.

Krystal Loving this series, but being a Jacob fan, it's kind of hard to decide. If I was a vampire, I think I would have chosen that because, I would love to have immortality. To live forever is awesome, but yet you'd be a "freak of nature". I might also do it for a loved one, to stay with them. I could learn how to control my thrist, such as the Cullen's do.

education is never ending, in order to learn everything we know now, to read every book, to learn every instrument, speak every language etc it would take hundreds of years. in the time you spent learning all of that education would advance tremendously and books would have moved on. The world is evolving at a remarkable rate i'm not sure anyone would ever be able to keep up. At some point you could put this knowledge to action and do something with it, the list is edless. Then there's the possibility of self actualisation which is a whole different discussion.

Would you say in general that your friends are prone to telling lies, generally uneducated or fickle? Most people would usually answer no, their friends are none of these things. If this is the case for you what motivation would your friends have for saying such things to you? About being too hard on yourself I mean? Most people are too hard on themselves especially those suffering from depression which is why I wish your claims were true. If they were more realistic they would be able to see the positives so much easier.

I'm sorry you seem to be struggling, I wouldn't wish depression on anybody. Keep plodding on, look for the small victories in life and try to give yourself credit for them. :)

I still think if one were to be a vampire that they'd eventually get bored with the world and become completely detached from the world, and lose any empathy or humanity they ever had. What fun would it be to live forever when nothing holds any appeal anymore? Why would one want to do something with their knowledge when eventually every thing they do would become mundane, monotonous. Living forever would not be fun, no matter how many shallow reasons people can come up with.

Cecilia Carreon uhmm Jesse, if i may say you are right there is much much to do in this world and some may be able to do it all and bore. But if i were to be a vampire and must live forever i would be a doctor, a scientist, researcher. I doubt i would get bored in saving lives and preventing diseases or curing them. Imagine a whole clan of veggie vampires that save the world. It wouldn't be monotonous at all i love life and ive lost ppl to know i would want to preserve life. now that i think of it i never agreed to the wanting to be a vampire thing... but i could live with it knowing i was saving people, animals too id do anything to help them. I love them. You could do great things with ever lasting life.

and sure you cant stay in one place too long but im sure moving around and around would help conceal your identity. its just a thought Carlisle was more or less moving in the same direction only he chose to be more of a father then anything which is also respectable.

Peace.

Definitely. At some point they would tire of living, but then they can opt to die if they want to. The point I make is that having the opportunity to do all of those things is a pro to being a vampire. I don't know if you read all of my initial post but I did say I wouldn't want to be a vampire because no matter how many positives there are, for me there would be no life without my friends and family and nothing could out weigh that. I'm happy with the one life, but if stuck with eternity you would have to look for the positives :)

And that's fine to think like that. That's fine to want that. It still seems that after so long one would just become taken over by apathy, no matter how enthusiastic they were at the start when they became a vampire.

Jessica Nichola wrote: "Cecilia wrote: "uhmm Jesse, if i may say you are right there is much much to do in this world and some may be able to do it all and bore. But if i were to be a vampire and must live forever i would..."

It's not boredom that I mean, and I don't think it wouldn't take me long. It could take hundreds of years, centuries even to do every single thing there is to do. But you have forever if you're careful about it and the world doesn't end within three centuries. It just seems that centuries upon centuries would make the heart grow colder, not fonder. It just seems inevitable that as a vampire you would just stop caring.

Cassie Well what a glum outlook on life. If I ever did everything there is to possible do, I'd just go back to the beginning and start over.
