I must have been too focused on my October read to realize that we've already moved into November. So, without ANY further ado...what was your October read? Did you like it? Hate it? Throw it against a wall or hug it like a teddy bear? Let's hear it! And remember, everyone who posts their read for October enters the drawing for a $5 VB gift card!

Janai Symons (janaisymons) | 21 comments The best book I read in October was Insignia. At first, it felt like a well-written emulation of Scott Orson Card's Ender's Game but it took it to a whole other level. Amazing book about teenagers hired by the pentagon to pilot spaceships to fight world war III. It is basically a commentary on drone war-fare, corporate sponsorship, parental shortcomings, and gamesmanship. Awesome book for fantasy and YA lovers.

Linda I read You Remind Me of Me by Dan Chaon . A pair of young men were born of the same mother, but one was given up for adoption, the other was raised by the birth mother. One goes searching for the other who is not aware of the existence of the former. Strange happenings. Chaon is a wonderful writer, but I didn't always appreciate the events in this book.

Margaret (margaretlandis) | 10 comments I read Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan. It was a quick read about a San Francisco bookstore, secret librarian/bookseller societies, and Google.

Did you read Await Your Reply? That is a great book--really messes with your mind.

I LOVED Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore! I thought it was really clever and I'm kind of a sucker for those secret society premises.

I loved Await Your Reply by Dan Chaon so much that I had my book discussion group read that one.
