Fran | 12278 comments Around The World In 80 Days (or so)

This challenge runs from November 15, 2012- February 15st, 2013. Please feel free to jump in at any time during the 3 months :)

There is no minimum page count, re-reads and audio books are allowed.

Please re-post as you complete your book selections.

If you would like to add your star ratings to your completed books that would be great. It's always nice to see what everyone else enjoyed and get some new recs along the way :)

The Continents-

Asia
Africa
North America
South America
Europe
Australia
Antarctica

Books to be read- Could be as little as 4 (A-S-I-A) or many more...

1. Read a book for each continent-

You may use the setting of the book, author's place of birth or current residence, or title of the book to read one book for each continent.

The author was born in the continent or lives there now. The setting of the book is from that continent. The title of the book contains the name of the continent.

And/ Or

2. Spell out a continent (or more than 1)

- any books can be used. As long as the book title or author's first or last name is found in the spelling of the continent, you may use it. The criteria in #1 above does not have to be met.

Bonus-

When spelling out the continent in #2- Use only books related to a continent - author/ setting/title

Fran | 12278 comments I will add links to helpful shelves soon. I probably won't get to it until tomorrow though. Traveling back home today. Hoping to get my family back to normal after Hurricane Sandy. We are so lucky to be going home to power. So many in my town and surrounding areas still have no power. Hoping all of you are safe and warm!

Ohh, this sounds like fun!

If I'm unsure of how much time I'll have, and settle with only spelling out for example "Europe", can I add another one to spell if I manage to finish early? :)

message 5: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments yep you can Rebecca ;) i'm starting easy with option 2 and doing ASIA but going with the twist to make it related to the continent

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

Awesome! Ohh, good luck! I don't dare go after that one, sounds tough. ;) Lol

I'm glad to hear you have power back, Fran. I thought of you and cringed when I heard on the news a couple of days ago that the power crews heading back there from this area were going to be working on Long Island, and expected to be there for a couple of weeks, at least. Living out in the middle of nowhere like I do, we're pretty well set to handle power outages, and even so I can't imagine being out for that long.

Hina (hinaj) | 2581 comments I am overthinking this...But I will ask anyway, Book's setting in Belize which is technically Central America, can I count it as South America?

message 20: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12278 comments Hi Hina,

Yes, you can use it for South America :)

~KarenH~ | 11338 comments Ok, I have to ask...can an author's middle name/initial be used rather than just first or last for the spell out the continent option?

message 29: by Makenzie (new)

Makenzie (makenziefay) | 496 comments Sorry Karen, but we're just working with first and last names for this challenge.
