Jazzy Lemon Safety Last (1923)

Directed by Fred C. Newmeyer and Sam Taylor.

After Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton, the silent film era’s third genius was Harold Lloyd, who stars in this Horatio Alger-style story of an average country boy trying to make good in the big city. The Boy (Lloyd) leaves his sweetheart, The Girl (Mildred Davis, later the real-life Mrs. Lloyd) in Great Bend while he pursues his fortune in a teeming metropolis. The Boy lands a job as a clerk at a fabric counter of DeVore’s, a huge department store, but he lies in his letters home to his beloved, pretending to be the store’s manager and spending his earnings on lavish gifts. The Boy’s roommate, The Pal (Bill Strother) makes money as a human fly, performing attention-getting stunts. Promised $1,000 by DeVore’s real manager if he can devise a publicity gimmick, The Boy convinces his friend to climb the 12-story establishment and split the winnings with him. On the day of the event, however, The Pal is busy dodging The Law (Noah Young), forcing The Boy to make the arduous climb solo. Dodging a variety of obstacles, The Boy climbs higher and higher, eventually dangling from the store’s clock tower, in the film’s most memorable image.

It is also important to note that at the time of shooting this film, Harold Lloyd was missing the thumb and forefinger of his right hand. He had posed with a prop bomb, lit a cigarette off it for a photo, pulled it away from his face and it exploded. So there he is hanging off a clock quite a way from the ground with only 3 fingers on his right hand. If you look closely you can see the prosthetic glove he wore. What a legend.

Prashamsa to kill a mockingbird

Jazzy Lemon Robert Mulligan's "To Kill a Mockingbird" (1962) was a cinematic masterpiece. (Did you know that Robert Duvall played Boo Radley?) And yet despite it's success, the book has been on the banned list. The racial content, profanity, and references to rape have caused many to challenge the book and have the novel removed from school libraries and classrooms.

Following that theme, I would like to submit the following banned film:

Daisies (1966)
Sedmikrasky (original title).

Directed by Vera Chytilová.

This playful, wildly subversive comedy is one of the masterpieces of the Czech New Wave. Two teenage girls, disenchanted with the world around them, launch a campaign of mischief against anyone they happen to stumble across. This mad Dadaist farce presents an unbridled depiction of teen rebellion. Starring Jitka Cerhová and Marie Cesková.

Innovatively filmed, and released two years before the Prague Spring, the film was labeled as "depicting the wanton" by the Czech authorities and banned. Director Chytilová was forbidden to work in her homeland until 1975. The film received the prestigious Grand Prix of the Belgian Film Critics Association.

Prashamsa shawshank redemption

message 9108: by Jazzy (last edited Dec 19, 2013 02:52AM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jazzy Lemon Did you like the film? what do you know about it? Do you know the year it was made? (1994) or the director? (Frank Darabont) You've got an entire wealth of information at your fingertips! Surely you can't really find it fun to just write a title in a post.

Nightfall (1957)

Directed by Jacques Tourneur. Starring Aldo Ray, Brian Keith, and Anne Bancroft. This low-budget film noir is remembered today for camera work by cinematographer Burnett Guffey. It uses flashbacks as a device to tell the story, which was based on a 1947 novel by David Goodis.

Commercial artist James Vanning (Aldo Ray) and his friend, Dr. Edward Gurston (Frank Albertson), are on a hunting and fishing trip in Wyoming. They stop to help two men whose car has crashed. John (Brian Keith) and Red (Rudy Bond) are bank robbers, fleeing with $350,000 in loot, who don't plan on leaving any witnesses.

Jazzy Lemon Thank you :D
I'm also writing my favourite films! I think of a film that I've enjoyed then just look it up online and find out things I might not remember, like the director (which is very important, really) and what year it was made. It takes a bit of time, but it's worth it, and inspired me to start a blog as well.

One of my most favourite films:

Au Revoir Les Enfants (1987)

An autobiographical film written, produced and directed by Louis Malle.

A French boarding school run by priests seems to be a haven from World War II until a new student arrives. He becomes the roommate of top student in his class. Rivals at first, the roommates form a bond and share a secret.

Touch of Evil (1958).

Directed by Orson Welles.
Written by Orson Welles and starring Orson Welles, Charlton Heston and Janet Leigh.

Mexican Narcotics officer Ramon Miguel 'Mike' Vargas has to interrupt his honeymoon on the Mexican-US border when an American building contractor is killed after someone places a bomb in his car. He's killed on the US side of the border but it's clear that the bomb was planted on the Mexican side. As a result, Vargas delays his return to Mexico City where he has been mounting a case against the Grandi family crime and narcotics syndicate. Police Captain Hank Quinlan is in charge on the US side and he soon has a suspect, a Mexican named Manolo Sanchez. Vargas is soon onto Quinlan and his Sergeant, Pete Menzies, when he catches them planting evidence to convict Sanchez. With his new American wife, Susie, safely tucked away in a hotel on the US side of the border - or so he thinks - he starts to review Quinlan's earlier cases. While concentrating on the corrupt policeman however, the Grandis have their own plans for Vargas and they start with his wife Susie.
