How did everyone fair with Hurricane Sandy? She was a bit nasty to us during our monthly book club meeting on Monday night, however, our discussion prevailed until the very end whereby we lost power and headed for home. It was a pleasure meeting so many new faces, and I thoroughly enjoyed our 'Catcher in the Rye' discussion.
Out of 9 attendees, we had two ladies that had read Salinger's book in their teens and the rest of us had only tackled it once or twice as adults. However, even with a few teenage eyes, we all didn't like it! If you'd like to see what questions we tackled, please go to the 'More' tab and then select 'Files'. I've uploaded our question list from Monday evening.
Yes....November brings us pie in more ways than one. Our next book, selected at random from the bread basket, was 'The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society' by Mary Ann Shaffer. Fitting name for a Thanksgiving time read?
I already popped into my local library to snag a copy and found out it is has been a very popular book. Morley has an entire book set leading me to believe it was read by a local school system in the recent past? Thankfully, the Cuyahoga County and CPL libraries have loads of available copies, in addition to, e-book versions for us travelers or techie types.
Other general news include the following; most libraries are closed 11/12 for Veterans Day, 11/20 for Thanksgiving and some will even be closed on Election day too. Daylight Savings Time falls back this coming weekend putting us in the dark for a few months, and there's a book sale on November 3rd from 9 am - 5 pm at the Mayfield Library on Wilson Mills. Finally, on Sunday, November 4th at 2 pm, Varley O'Connor, local author, will be speaking at the Beachwood Library discussing 'The Master's Muse'.
Last but not least, if you'd like to join our group on Goodreads.com, sign up for an account and search for our Divas de la Creme group or you can find me by name - Amanda Debevc.
