Trisha | 30284 comments Question...

does the item you are using have to be used in reference to a food item.

Like I found "fishnet stalkings". Clearly, we aren't talking about a fish at a meal, but Fish is a food word and fish is edible.

or a character's name in my book is "Absinthe" which is the name of an alcohol.

Or, Tim Curry - can I use Curry?

Would I be able to use any of these?

I thought about that too, but I don't know how to respond. It took me SO LONG to type all of that out so I feel like if someone else read it then they should have to write it all down and type it out too. But at the same time, it seems kind of pointless for someone to have to do all of that when I already did it.

The sentences I wrote down were longer until I saw Gisbelle's.

You should have a lot of drinks to add then! :)

I had nuts in mine twice. Oops! I'm surprised that I didn't have more than one double in there. Reading food books for this challenge isn't a good idea. I had to stop so often to write stuff down! But since I need food books for that other challenge that we're both in, it seems silly not to use them for this challenge too!

Exactly! It's very time-consuming, but I really enjoy looking for the words. I've seen some questionable. For example, would "coffee table" work since it has coffee in it, or does it have to actually refer to the drink? LOL Haha...just looking for points!

that was the question I asked earlier.
I think it should totally work!!! In books not about food, that is how we will find our food references,

Like Fishnet stalkings...... I want to use the word "fish"
Tim Curry - I want to use curry.

we'll see what Jacquelyn or Gisbelle say :)

message 62: by Jalyn (new)

Jalyn (jalynnie) I would think it would work since we're looking for food words and not sentences, but like Trisha said, we'll have to wait to see what the mods say :)

Can we use food and drink that don't exist in our world such as ambrosia (godly food) and nectar (godly drink)?

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 31156 comments Ono more question: If we are reading a 2nd and 3rd book, etc. may we still use a food another time. Example: In The Fame Game if I found "popcorn" and then while I am reading Almost Famous and I find "popcorn" in that book too, do I include it in my list.

This one took me FOREVER!!! First I used sticky strips to mark my words, then I wrote them on my Word program, including the bolding the words. Then I copied and pasted when finished, but (NO) the bold words didn't transfer over so I had to go through and do each word one-by-one using the "some html is ok" button. FOREVER!!! I loved doing the search, but it took a LONG time!!!

Any solutions? Suggestions?

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 18790 comments Vicki- I'm pretty sure that you can use the same food or drinks if they are from different books:D I'm almost positive but I guess we'll have to wait for Gisbelle's confirmation. I can only imagine how long it's going to take me to put mine up! I am also putting them in a word program but since the bold doesn't transfer then this is going to take a while! I'm going to start using the sticky strips as well though because whenever I read now, I have to have my computer near me so I can put down the food and drinks but since it's near me it distracts me form reading!

Trisha | 30284 comments I think on the front page, Gisbelle says you can't use a food twice (which is why we are doing a BIG list as one list. Because you can't repeat food.)

I could be wrong.

I noticed that too!!! It's making my reading take forever. I guess I never noticed how much people in books OBSESS over food!! It's just crazy how much they talk about food! LOL!

message 79: by Jacquelyn, thebrunettebooknerd (new)

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 18790 comments Oh, yes! Trisha, yo are exactly right! Okay, Vicki, ignore everything I told you! You cannot repeat food and or drinks! I'm very sorry for the false info! Thanks Trisha!

I know, I never noticed how much books talk about food until now!

I know it and I didn't really even read a "FOOD" book! LOL It will take too much time to look over all the words and cross-reference, etc. I spent a lot of time on this one, but not sure I really have time to check over the list each time I read.

Okay, doing the checking of words against books will take me too long I think. I nope I did the first one right at least. I'm not sure if I'll do more of this one because the words are so time consuming to look for, write, post, bold, etc.

Is my list of words all right?

What do you mean by one long list? I have to list my list again...words only? Oh HECK no! LOL Tell me we don't have to do that too!

They look perfect :)

You can put every food and drinks you have found from all the books you read for the contest in one post. I read the post and total the points.

Gisbelle | 25787 comments Well guys, it might be a difficult task to type all the sentences from the books (I am getting tired of typing all those lines too)....

So how about we make it easy for everyone and just type the name of the book, rating, date read and the food and drinks directly?

Sorry for those who have typed in hundreds lines already XD

I like this much better too! Although one of the books I was reading has TONS of food words. I kid you not, I only got to something like page 20 and already had over 80 foods and, no, it's not a cookbook! LOL

So does that mean if we find wine cooler in one book and wine cooler in another that we may now count them both? Or is it still just one time for the same food/drink among all the books?

Also, Please tell me that I don't have to redo the list I've already done. That number stands and then we just add. Correct?

Yes, if the same kind of food appears again in another book, you don't have to put it again :)

And you don't have to redo anything :D

I know it's hard to type everything down when you have 100+ food/drinks, so just list them down here:
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...

and in this post you just need to put down the title of the book, rating and date read, and the food and drinks you have found in it.

I'm assuming wine since she was talking about drinking cheap wine on the page before. The sentence on this page is: "Hannah went off to fetch her sister another glass of Chateau Screw Top."
