L.Y. Levand (lylevand) Yes. No internet for two whole days. It's amazing the amount of stuff you can get done when you're not being distracted by a computer!

stormhawk | 1184 comments Unfortunately, a lot of the things I wanted to do during Hurricane Sandy required power. Like laundry, and not having all of the food in my refrigerator and freezer go bad. Power went out on Monday afternoon, didn't get it back until 2230 or so Wednesday. Power was out at work, too, which was kind of interesting. I was pretty much ready for it, and when the lights went out I reached into my pocket, took out an LLBean camping headlamp, strapped it on, and kept working. Not that there was a lot of work to do. Surprisingly few people tried to come into the rehab during the storm.

Then I went to the 911 call center to help out with the "rumor control" line.

I did find out that there were people stuck in my apartment building's elevator when the power went out. And, apparently, during a brief return of power (it came back on for about 1/2 hour on Monday night before it dropped again) somebody forgot that they were cooking when the lights went out, and ended up with a small kitchen fire. Luckily it wasn't near MY apartment.

The hospital was on generator for three days. We had power cords strung all over the office just so we had three working computers, a copier, and a fax machine.

On the upside, they suspended business casual for a week. :)

L.Y. Levand (lylevand) Wow. Glad nothing bad happened, Stormhawk. Sounds like you've got more power problems than I've had. Like, ever. Lol. Hope everything turns out okay!
