message 3: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 823 comments Oh! I still haven't read anything by this author. I've had the Sirantha Jax series on my radar for a while now, as I've heard it is great. Guess I best get to it!

Me neither, but I'm not a big fan of sci-fi, so maybe I'll try Corine Solomon series instead.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 823 comments Hmmm... Haven't heard of that one. Looks good, Sonia.

message 6: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) It was either that or Razorland series, but between dystopian or urban fantasy, the later usually wins.

message 7: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 823 comments Interesting. More YA, right? I'm not much of a sci-fi person either, but I can take it in small doses. However, I'm not crazy about love triangles. So, I think I'll stick with Sirantha Jax for my first by this author.

message 8: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) I usually like YA, but I must confess that the teenager love triangles and the high school politics (a.k.a. popular girls vs heroines vs mean girls vs whatever...) are getting on my nerves pretty bad lately...

message 9: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 823 comments Yeah. It depends on how well the author handles it.

message 10: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) Well, All These Things I've Done is on stand by because of all the high school, ex-boyfriend and new guy that my bff is into but he's into me drama...

and if Alice in Zombieland doesn't improve soon, I may have to struggle to finish it... I used to say that we're never too old to read young adult's books but I'm starting to have second thoughts ...

message 11: by Sandra, Need more time to Read!! (new)

Sandra | 4734 comments LOL. I came to that conclusion, long ago :D

I can take ém in very small doses.

message 12: by Gin (new)

Gin | 338 comments I usually won't read a YA unless a bunch of my friend who read different types of books all give it good ratings. I just went against my rule today and of course......burned again.

As for Ann Aguirre, Im doing a monthly buddy read of her Syranthia Jax series. I'm enjoying it so far. It's one that gets better with each book.

Sonia (darktalynn) I guess I was having lucky with my YA books, Vampire Academy and Bloodlines series, the Mortal instruments, The Hunger Games (got to read catching fire and mockingjay, btw) and Daughter of Smoke and Bone.. all have some high school or boys drama, but is so secondary to the main action or to the main character's purpose, it doesn't register as a negative point that much... despite all the major challenges in their lives, they are teens, we can't forget that those things are major issues, we can't just expect they'll be teens with adult's point of views, but sometimes it just gets tiring... oh gosh, maybe I'm too old to YA *shudders*

message 14: by Emy (new)

Emy (emypt) | 59 comments I can cope with 'High School drama'-like plots, partly because they STILL happen in adult life in some workplaces. I do loathe love triangles though. I personally would recommend All These Things I've Done as being a book where the story doesn't take a back-seat to 'drama'

Love triangles really are... annoying, to be nice, and unfortunately very common on YA books.

That is good to know... since the beginning was like:"I broke up up the guy and he trashed my name on school", but I'll gave it another try, thanks :o)

message 16: by ☀Rachael☀ (new)

☀Rachael☀ (jimbunni) Yay I'm hopefully reading Doubleblind this month!

message 17: by Mike (new)

Mike | 353 comments You should try Beautiful Creatures. It's told from the guy's point of veiw so a lot of the angst and drama aren't in it. I'm going to try Daughter of Smoke and Bone because of everyone on here talking about it.

message 18: by Mike (new)

Mike | 353 comments Oh and I like Corine Solomon better than Sinthra Jax.

message 19: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) I haven't read any of Ann Aguirre's books but have read the Dark Age Dawning series, which she co-wrote with Carrie Lofty and enjoyed it very much.

I'm also not a fan of YA - love triangles annoy me and I had enough teen angst when I was a teen. So I might try the Sirantha Jax series.

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments Ok so I have lost my mind LOL and I am really sorry Ann Aguirre was the AOM for October but since we re-voted I think she will have two months which may actually be a better option.

message 21: by Sandra, Need more time to Read!! (new)
