Henry Birnbaum | 12 comments I stumbled upon this group discussion with Vollmann on climate and energy: https://climateone.org/node/24529/#tr...

Haven't listened to it yet though. Hope this wasn't posted here before.

Tom Beshear | 61 comments Harper's gave Vollmann most of the issue.

T.R. Wolfe (trwolfe) | 47 comments Yep. It's 35 pages in the print edition of 90-something.

Griffin Alexander | 103 comments Anyone else feel like the Vollmann article in Harper's was a little bit of a let down?? Though I love letting people speak to their own experience and giving place in a reputable and well-circulated magazine for those voices, it seems Bill really held back on his own cultural analysis even as it related to the perspective of people on the American side of the border. Felt a little unbalanced, though I loved the last section.

I've got my copy but haven't read it yet. What you say though sounds like about what I expect it to be. I'm curious though whether it might be part of a larger project we've not heard about yet.

Charlie Bryan (chbryan25) | 2 comments This was a great two part podcast from March in which he discuses the climate change series as well as many of his other books.

Ken Jones | 11 comments I think this is one of only a few interviews with Vollmann on The Lucky Star. We recorded it when he was in Portland for a Powell's Books event. Just before the pandemic shut everything down.

Ken Jones | 11 comments I talked with Bill Vollmann last week about his new 2-volume set Shadows of Love, Shadows of Loneliness. I'll be airing the interview on my show Jonesy on KBOO Radio in Portland next Thursday, October 12th. The episode will be available on-demand after the broadcast and I'll post the link when ready. We went over an hour and covered the new release and other topics, including the current status of Bill's finished novel A Table for Fortune. So grateful to him for the interview and hope you enjoy it!

Excellent. I look forward to listening. The podcast Vollmannia also got an interview with Vollmann and it should appear soon. A wealth of WTV news after a long drought.

I have a copy of "Shadows..." and it's a fascinating work.

Ken Jones | 11 comments My interview with Vollmann on the new 2-volume collection "Shadows of Love, Shadows of Loneliness" is now available for on-demand listening. I think the book, with its visual artwork and commentary, serves as a retrospective on Bill's career. And we cover a lot of ground from his days as a young student activist -- which led to the 7-volume essay on violence Rising Up and Rising Down -- to his most recent novel The Lucky Star, which features a Christ-like female as its focal point. We also talk about A Table for Fortune, finished and looking for a publisher, his late daughter Lisa who he loved dearly, his health, and a few in-progress projects. Hope you enjoy listening!
