Randomness Thread
By unanimous decision, I now pronounce this the Randomness Thread.
In other random news, I am wearing a Saints hoodie. For the first morning this season, it is cold in New Orleans (x_X).

the cold seems to be arriving in Roma - Italy as well. Thank God. The summer was waaaaay too long and hot for my tastes! :D
It has arrived in Berlin, Germany, as well. Even though there is no snow here, yet. But only about 150km south it has snowed enough for the ground to be covered in snow completely. Apparently this hasn't happened for over 60 years. And last weekend it was warm enough to only wear a shirt and light jacket, now it's (close to) freezing and you got to wear a coat (from 20° to around 0°C in less than a week!!).
I just hope this winter won't be as bad as a few years ago. >.< meh.
Now back to my stupid thesis. Deadline is Tuesday. YAY!!
It is freezing in Glasgow, Scotland. It doesn't help that I live in a really old building which means my flat is impossible to heat. Does give me an excuse to stay in bed all weekend though!
W00t, I have the best husband! :)Saturdays are my husband's day to sleep in. He gets to sleep as long as he wants, I watch the kids, and I don't ask him to go anywhere or do anything (except for the pub tonight, of course!) Sundays are my day.
Well, today I was whining about having to go back out into the cold (it's like 55 degrees out there!!) because I forgot to buy cigarettes while I was getting breakfast, and of course my husband was making fun of me because I am cold-phobic, whereas he loves the cold. :P (Come on, even when it's like 110 degrees, as long as you have A/C you're set! But when it's cold, just walking to the car you gotta do the "F&^%! It's cold!" dance! To which my husband responded, "Haven't you ever heard of this thing called a jacket?" Pah! If I have to wear a jacket, the cold wins!)
So, we're both laughing and making fun of me, and suddenly he says, "You're too grumpy this morning. When you get back from getting cigarettes, you should go back to bed. I'll watch the kids today."
Wow! I should start complaining about the weather every Saturday! :P
It's been warm here in TX up until two days ago. So warm that the flowers I planted back in spring (that died a slow dead) came back to life, through absolutely no help from me. I'm calling them zombie flowers due to the reanimation. But I welcome the cold. Autumn makes me feel alive.
Those flowers are beautiful Anna.
I like the colours that come with autumn but most of that has already happened in Scotland.
Now all I have to look forward to is brief bits of snow followed by lots of slush. That's probably the worst thing about living in a city, the snow goes to slush pretty quickly and then it just becomes a sloppy dangerous nightmare. Last winter I sprained the same wrist twice on the ice.

Thx, Stefani. My brother used to live in Massachusetts and hated the snow. Whereas I looove it cause we never see it in Texas. Sprained your wrist - did you fall? :(
Yea, I'm quite clumsy and the ice really doesn't help. I sprained it as a kid and it never healed properly so it sprains really easy now. I once sprained it by tripping over nothing but my feet in a perfectly tidy bedroom!
I laugh ONLY because I feel your pain. I twisted my ankle a few weeks back because I stood up while my foot was asleep. Stupidest injury ever, and it was a bad one.
Its pretty cool that there are so many people from all over the world here! I didn't know, most sites I visit are overwhelmingly American lol. Also, there are at least two of you who are also living in Texas, which is awesome. We just moved to Amarillo a couple months ago. And it HAS been cold here. It'll be 50 degrees F out, which is usually a pretty comfortable temperature for me (I grew up in the mountains, and usually there is snow by now) but the wind is cutting here. Makes it feel more like 30 degrees. We have to bundle up to go to the park.
Stefani - I feel your wrist pain. Back in early May I fell (tripped on a stupid curb that I swear just came out of nowhere), twisted my wrist, and ended up actually causing ulnar nerve damage with a bit of a tendon tear. It's still healing, and I'm looking at another 5 months until it's all the way better. All because of a curb!
I also managed to break a toe once by dropping a hand-held screwdriver on it.
When I hurt myself, I don't go half-assed.
Anna, Kelly - Ouch! I feel for you both! At least the best thing about being hurt is that you get to catch up on a fair bit of reading. I've been stuck in bed all day with a bad back and trapped sciatic nerve but I finally got around to reading Bossypants.

I love this too about GR too.
And welcome to TX!
Anna, I love your zombie flowers, so awesome! I can't keep anything alive. I blame it on the Houston heat -- and the fact that my neighbors all manage to keep thriving gardens means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! :PNicole, welcome to Texas!
The rest of you -- stop falling and hurting yourselves! So dangerous! :P (Yeah, I'm *that* kind of mom.)
Michelle wrote: "the fact that my neighbors all manage to keep thriving gardens means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!"LOL, I generally kill plants too.
And thanks for the concern, Mom. :)

Here is a piece of completely random pie! So I read this book years ago and I really want to read it again; however I can not for the life of me remember the name. So I am going to throw the plot out into the random wind and hope someone brilliant can catch the title from the breeze. PLOT: Serial killer kills his victims slowly while recording there screams. Serial killer than plays all screams together, only to open a second hell world, which in turn sets free the angel of revenge. She then begins killing murders, abusers, and rapists with fire. There is a Detective and a woman with either a child or a sister and they all get trapped in the hell world..... I desperately hope this rings a bell for someone out there, so I can stop feeling like I am loosing my bleeping mind lol. Thank you all for the chance to save my sanity :)

Wow! I wish I knew what this was. Sounds creepy!
So sorry to everyone with bad weather! I have family back east(NY, NJ, PA), so we are praying for all you guys. I live in Southern California, so, you know, the weather is pretty nice. (hehe)
Lol I'm telling you in was an insane book. Now I really wish my brain would click so I could share it with you all :)
Michelle, Anna, Jennifer it is a cerebral miracle! I was just sitting watching tv, some adult swim actually, when BAM out of nowhere I remembered. It seriously oozed out of no where and plopped right on the tip of me tongue, just sitting twiddling its thumbs, like it had been there the whole time! The title is "Angel of Darkness" and its by Charles de Lint. I seriously recommend it!!!! If you do pick it up I hope you enjoy it :)
Sounds awesome, Amber! There's a book I have been trying to remember for ages, about a teenaged runaway named Clarissa who I think was from Earth, but was living on the streets of some other planet. I remember that she had eye make-up tattooed on, courtesy of the step-mother she hated, and that she was a knife fighter. I have a friend who reads EVERYTHING, so I'm going to email him all the details and see if he knows it.
Jennifer, I think they are Zinnia but not positive. I planted them soooo long ago.Amber, you remembered! Funny how the mind works. :) I'm adding it to my list to check out. Charles de Lint has some interesting stuff.
Michelle, that book sounds good!
Has anyone else started reading even more since they got on Goodreads? I'm juggling three books right now--and starting to think I might be crazy.
More like getting back to reading for me. Uni had kept me away from it way too long! Also I've got more ideas for what to read now. :) And I'm discovering more stuff than ever, that's for sure!
I definitely have. I joined Goodreads in July last year. For the first half of the year, I read 6 books. For the second half, I read 44. This year I'm up to 128.It wasn't just Goodreads, though. I bought a Nook at the same time (which was actually the reason I went looking for a social network for reading), and I LOVE digital reading. I'm a SAHM in a one car family, so I don't have much opportunity to go to the bookstore or library. Love it so much, I bought Nooks for my kids, too! :)
Well, I'm off to get ready to go out to dinner with some new-ish friends for their anniversary! (My husband has known them a couple of years, but I've never actually met them, yet, just talked to them online a couple of times.) They're total geeks, too, so I'm gonna wear my new Captain America shirt. Have a great night, everybody! ;) Drink responsibly! :P
Anna, I was just talking to my Mom about this the other day. I have always loved reading but I am also dyslexic, so I don't read as much as I would like, since it takes more time and energy for me. With Goodreads I found a place that energizes and excites me into climbing the hurdles to read more. Plus I can watch my progress and feel proud....Kind of lame but it floats my boat :)Michelle I agree about the digital reading too. When I got my kindle it was game on; however they did build a public library around the corner from my house :) Did you know they let you leave without paying????
LOL, without paying? Really?? :P I wish they'd build a library around the corner from my house. At least our library does e-lending. :)
I definitely read more since joining GoodReads, it helped that I was also challenging myself to read 50 books this year anyway.
I think getting my iPad has helped me to read even more though. If I was in the mood to read but was visiting friends or family or not in my flat I would do something else instead, but now that I have books with me always I read automatically!

Oh don't get me wrong, I prefer real books a million times more. The story comes alive so much more. I just know that without iBooks I wouldn't read as much as I do because it is so easy for when I'm on the move. When I was reading the Millenium Trilogy I had them as ebooks and real books and the second I'd get in my flat I'd out my iPad down and head straight for the real thing and carry on from wherever I had gotten to that day while I was out.
i am ready for some cold weather, i hate being hot. would live to put on my chills weather clothes and snuggle under the covers.
I don't really like e-readers. :/ My friend has one, a kindle, and I felt like it wasn't as clear as on paper. I could see the pixels, you know. And that annoyed me quite a bit. Also that page change when it gets all black and blinks. That really distracted me. :/ Might be better with that new paperwhite thing but got those occasional page turns. But I guess I won't get one until my semester abroad anyway, if at all, cause then it would be way easier to get new books in any language... And no extra luggage to carry on the flight back home. heh.
I don't like reading on anything with a backlit screen, but I love e-ink. I'll probably never read a dead-tree book again, if I have the option. I love saving the space in my house; I love being able to carry an entire bookshelf in my purse; I love not having to hold the book open while I read (which hurts my hand) or worrying about breaking the spine; I love my books not getting torn up by a careless child or the dog; I love not having to worry about bookmarks or losing my place (used to happen all the time if I left a book in the living room and someone else picked it up); I love being able to search to find a specific line in a long book; and I really, really, really love being able to get new books whenever I want without having to leave the house.
I'm having the best day, BTW. I had a great night with my friends last night -- it was the first time I had actually met them in person, but we had a terrific time. This morning I woke up to find extra money in my bank account, thanks to a class action lawsuit against my bank that I didn't even know about until I received the settlement. And my mom called to invite me to go see Les Mis on Tuesday, with backstage passes!! :)
Tonight's probably going to be awesome, too. It's our favorite pub's one year anniversary!
