Okay, now this is a book that took me entirely off-guard. First off, I first heard of it through this site, plus it's entirely self-released by the author. And, the biggest shocker, the author, despite being Christian, isn't afraid to shatter the no-swearing tabboo today's church pushes onto others. And by swearing, I don't mean just a minced oath here and there and maybe one or two "light" cusswords for "street cred", rather, bad guys tend to sound like today's college partiers- lots of f-bombs, degrading women sharply, and other such language. Not only that, he shows a society that's more like Old Testament society, where cannibalism is rampant, people kill without a second thought/blinking an eye, and sadism isn't only become the norm, but is extreme. In the meanwhile, he shows people who have flaws but (in some cases, inevitably after hard considerations) follow God despite the incessant darkness. This was definitely not an easy read, even though I read other dark books. Maybe it's the contrast between following God's light inspite pervasive darkness all around (including an overall evil guy who channels a demon), nevertheless, I would DEFINITELY recommend this book for anyone who wants a Christian book that shatters expectations of today's literature as well as breaks the rules people expect.
