Read this about 15 years ago, was a YA title by a popular author. Don't remember a whole lot other than the kid finds the rolls of bills hidden all around the house.

Gilly finds money hidden in the house of a blind man who her foster mother is friends with; she steals the money under the pretence of cleaning the blind man's house so she can buy a bus ticket to visit her birth mother.
The Great Gilly Hopkins it is! The few pages I found online brought back scenes I imagined as a youngster just getting into this little girl's word. I can't wait to re-read the book and see how my perspective has changed.Thanks for your help!
