MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments I'm sure we all know that Goodreads has started using this ugly green button for shelving books.

I spend a lot of time in Feedback, if anyone has any questions (or tips/tricks to share!) please post them here.

Amelia (narknon) I thought the computer was acting up when I first saw it. I haven't really used it enough to know if I like it or not. Sometimes, I wish websites wouldn't change so much. I like the old format, I understand how it works. Why change it up?!

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments According to the GR staff, the additional functionality of the button should assist in speeding up the site traffic.

This is yet to be seen but that is the given reason.

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments Tip!

If you are trying to add "owned book" information, click on the book icon and choose "read."

This will open the lightbox (pop up) and allow the full functionality of the review box.

Stuart (asfus) | 98 comments Found it ok so far.

Steve Thomas | 102 comments Aesthetically, I agree with the thread title, but from a functionality standpoint, it's fine.

message 7: by Hanne (new)

Hanne (hanne2) Same as Steve here. I like the functionality. I just think it is too big, too bold and too ugly.

message 8: by Kevin (new)

Kevin | 284 comments It works better, or at least more intuitively than before.

Its look doesn't fit with the rest of the site at all though. I'm guessing it's just a first step of a larger site redesign?

Wouldn't mind that honestly. I've always felt that this site was rather clunky, especially the forums and your profile options and such. The blazing white background isn't the easiest on the eyes either.

message 9: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I think it's a pain, but have managed to use it.

message 10: by Jessica (new)

Jessica I like it. I think it's easier to use - I don't think it's big or ugly...it's just a button.

message 11: by Traci (new)

Traci The button certainly...ah, stands out? I find it easier though. Whenever I added a book to my library before it would go straight to read. Then I'd have to find it in my library and add it to the shelf I wanted it in. Maybe it was operator error. Don't know. But the new button is operator error proof. =)

message 12: by Pauline (new)

Pauline Ross (paulinemross) I like the idea of the button. It's certainly conspicuous! I like the idea, too, that I can add the book to any of my shelves with a single click.

The only thing that confused me at first is the label: "Want to Read"? I don't have a 'want-to-read' shelf, so how does that work? Took me a while to work out that it maps to my 'to-read' shelf. Now, call me pedantic, but 'want-to-read' isn't the same to me as 'to-read'. The first means I'd like to read it, sometime, but I don't own it yet (I have a 'maybe' shelf for those books). The second means I own it, and it's waiting patiently for its turn.

But still, I like the functionality.

If you click on the bookshelf pic and then choose your non-exclusive shelves first, you can then choose your exclusive shelf without having the list close first.
