Yvonne For full disclosure, I am only half-way through this book, but there are several things that just don't add up for me.

1. I cannot imagine the government taking on a minor in the witness protection program without any input from her parents. It just wouldn't happen.

2. Why is Christy the only one in "so much danger." Marybeth saw the same thing, and they haven't mentioned her being in extreme danger?

3. I find it hard to believe that two seasoned, special op agents (Alex's parents) would not have the intelligence to figure out that it is not a 15 yo's fault if she witnesses a terrorist murder someone, and it is not her fault that other kids had to look at the end result. I understand they fear for their son, but the animosity they show towards Christy, and the way they seem to blame her for what happened seems a little immature for them. Especially, since their son was the one that brought them to that hotel in the first place.

4. How can John expect a 16 yo to be an expert in 3 months, when he's probably taken years to hone his skills?

5. Lastly, John does not seem human in how little compassion he has for Christy's situation. I can't imagine many adults handling seeing someone beheaded, being almost killed by terrorist and then being kidnapped an almost killed a second time, followed-up by being pulled away from your family and the only life you know. How does he even remotely expect her to not have a few"WTH?" moments? She's a KID!!!!!!

The first book was entertaining, and had a few unbelievable moments. With Protected, I'm having a hard time getting past the "No Way!" moments.

04AlisaC I know I feel the exact same way how can John not feel anything for Christy. And its not her fault because Alex was the one that said the hotel was a good place to stop. If I was John I would have treated Christy way better. And Alex's Mom treated Christy like she was a filthy rat and she was nothing. I also hate Alex because he just had to come and ruin her new life(I dont know how far you have read so sorry if I ruined the book). But other than that the book was very good!!!

Tess The way I got past a lot of this was to think that every parent feels their child can do no wrong and this was the extreme!

Perhaps John just needed to maintain his distance and wanted her trained so he could get back on with his life.

There just has to be more to how she was treated in the next book.
