Lori's OCT '09- '10 Reading List
I dont tend to read too many best seller lists, or pop lit (Did I just coin a phrase?)..... I like to mix it up alot :)

Maybe I'll go shopping on your "read" list and see what you liked. :-)

Kandice, I would recommend Coraline if you like YA or have a YA reader to read it with. I wasnt that impressed with it, but ive always struggled to get into YA.
Fiona, Midnites Children was good. There were some parts that were a bit long to get through, but overall I was happy to have read it. I own Satanic Verses and am looking forward to reading it. I heard its a love it or hate it type of novel.

I liked it when I was in that reading group/age range, but as an adult, I suppose I don't find it challenging enough. It doesnt go near enough into depth and detail.. at least in the novels I have read recently (Book Thief, Wrinkle in Time, Coraline...). Not bad books overall, just not to my taste.
Ha, Laura, sadly no. But I dont work Tues-Thurs, so those are my catch-up-on-reading days. Plus, if you look closely, they were shortish novels. (all under 250 pages each)..... so it looks more impressive than it really was :)

Did you like this one?

Lori, I am so curious to hear what you thought about it. I read this one more than ten years ago in dutch. Still can't beleive my non book reading father recommended it to me and told me everybody should read it once. I adored it. Got a frame in my bedroom at home too. Read it about five years ago in italian and kept adoring it. Now i have bookmarks with images of the story too.
Jeane, I liked Alice In Wonderland, but not as much as I had wanted to.
The Little Prince was a very sweet, heartbreaking, touching tale. I read it online, and really liked it.

At times, I admit, Robbins was going way over my head, but overall I quite liked it. He's got an interesting way of describing things. "Peachfish".. that will stay with me for a long long time.
21.Number the Stars - Lowry
I read this with my oldest a for a 1/2 hour every nite. It was assigned reading for him.

I remember reading this in grade school and liking it. Does it hold up as an adult reader, Lori? More importantly, did your son enjoy it? I remember the boys in my class scoffing at it, but I don't think that's a universal opinion.
No to both questions.
Ive never read it before, so as an adult reading it, I didnt enjoy it at all. My son is a picky reader, so his opinion is a little tough to take seriously. However he didnt like this one either.

I loved this book when I was younger and I still love it. I thought the trick with the cocaine and blood on the handkerchief was a pretty cool idea. My Grandfather was from Danmark so it made this book even more special to me.
