YA book, character named 'gypsy' [s]

I really don't remember too much about this book, beyond impressions that are hard to describe. I'm pretty sure I read it when I was in 4th grade which would have been in 1999/2000. I believe the protagonists were children, maybe a boy and a girl. I distinctly remember the name 'gypsy' for one of the characters.

I think the overall feeling of the book as I remember it was sort of subtly melancholy.

Sorry, for such an incredibly vague description. If anyone recognizes this I'll be amazed, but very happy!

Could be Belle Prater's Boy. Has a girl named Gypsy and is about two kids dealing with loss.
