i've read both of them. i read Water for Elephants in August, and i read Angela's Ashes about 9 years ago, during my senior year in college. ouch.

anyway, both were very good reads, but i will say that Angela's Ashes took a bit of effort to get through. it was interesting but kind of long-winded.

I am new here, but really want to participate! I just mooched Angela's Ashes, and have had Water for Elephants on my wishlist for quite some time.. I might just have to break down and buy it. As a newbie, is there anything I should know about participating?

nope. Its pretty self explainatory. We start discussions on the first of the month. I post two threads for each book. One for spoilers, and one that remains spoiler free... we have all month to read it.

You can choose to read one, both, or none. Im guilty of all three at anytime... depends on the month and the winners.. ha ha!

I picked up Angela's Ashes at a library sale about 6 months ago and haven't read it yet, so I'm excited to read it with everyone!

I'm interested in Water for Elephants, but I've got so many other books lying around here waiting to be read that I don't know if I'll pick it up. I might though.

I have already read both - Water for Elephants is AMAZING, Angela's Ashes is a bit depressing but still good. Enjoy everyone - I will be doing some major reading for the Spring Challenge!

I read Angela's Ashes a few years ago, or whenever the movie came out. I loved the book, not the movie so much. I read it follow up book Tis, was alright, but no where near as good as Angela's Ashes. His brother wrote a book too, can't think of the name right off, he's not as good as a writer as Frank McCormick. I keep meaning to pick up Water for Elephants, I want to read it, but it really doesn't peak my interest all that much.

I read Angela's Ashes years ago I remember liking it alot.Even though i to wanted to slap the mother several times the father to i might add.But i love how he kind of gives such a depressing story some laughter as well.I will try and re read this.

I already get that depressing feeling over me jsut picking up Angela's ashes and that is the only reason I have never read it....I wonder if it would jsut be a feeling or if it would get worse with the reading.

I've read Angela's Ashes, although it was quite a while ago. One of my favorites.

What do we think about our second catagory being "humor or joke" related in honor of April Fools Day? It could be a funny novel, or a book written by a comedian. So it could be nominations like Diary of a Wimpy Kid The Last Straw (which is humorous) Brain Droppings (which is humorous, and written by a comedian) or Shopgirl A Novella (which is written by a comedian, but not necessarily funny).....

I just read Water For Elephants a few weeks ago, I loved it! So...I mooched Angela's Ashes and should get it in a few days. I'm looking forward to reading it. But since it is such a 'heavy' book topic, I think the idea of a humorous read for April is a great idea. I would love a good laugh!
