I'm much more likely to sleep as much as possible, but yeah, I'll be reading for a little while now.

message 3809: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn (kcanty313) | 1870 comments 12:14 PM. Husband and I stayed up until two last night watching stuff on Netflix. BAD IDEA. He was still in bed when I got up, so I went to a local bagel bakery and got us bagels and coffee. Think it made us feel a bit better. I have had a bad headache since early this morning, so I think I am going to relax, read, and take care of myself and try to do as little as possible.

message 3810: by [deleted user] (new)

Take care of yourself Kathryn. Hopefully the headache will ease soon.

12:32PM Just had lunch. Now back at GR to check up on things. First time on this post today!

Victor I love roller coasters! Glad you had a good time at Six Flags.

Terri I am so sorry that you go through so much pain! And it is always nice to have a distraction.

Katy. try adding honey to your diet. It has been proven to boost immune systems and also can ease your sore throat. It works well with tea. My daughter had a sore throat last week and I made her honey tea her sore throat was gone by the end of the day and she was able to return to school.

Kathryn I hope you were able to rid yourself of the headache. They are no fun. I am so blessed that I don't get headaches much at all.

message 3813: by Katy (new)

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments Hey, Janie; I usually keep honey on hand but right now we don't have any. Once I pry my husband out of bed I need to send him to the store for my lemon-ginger echinacea drink and some honey. Meanwhile, I have a chrysanthemum/lo han guo mixture that works fairly well.

5:58 p.m. EST Been sleeping all day, but simply cannot sleep any longer, no matter how tired I am. Mostly because I'm ravenous, but I can't manage to wake the hubby up and feel too weak and off-balance to cook for myself... *sigh* Anyway, clearing out e-mail and then will try again to wake him.

message 3814: by [deleted user] (new)

6:31 p.m. and I'm having trouble getting anything done today. I keep going back to bed and can't understand why. Well anyway, I plan to get some reading done and a bit of housework when I take a break from reading.

7:27PM Just got home. Had a beautiful day out today with family. Went to Eureka park, and then hit Brahm's ice cream after that. A gorgeous today in the 70's, so awesome.

Katy glad you have some things to help. We try our best too to keep honey in the house but we go through it so fast, and it is so expensive.

message 3817: by Katy (new)

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments The Hot & Sour soup was awesome, but hubby forgot the juice. He'll have to go out again, I suppose... :-)

8:33 p.m. EST now I'm feeling exhausted again... suppose I'll do more sleeping.

3:19am. Awake like last night. Thanks about your concern for my pain, Janie. Most of the time I get along OK. I shouldn't complain so much. I have medication that helps, it just takes time sometimes. I try to think of people who have it a lot worse, and appreciate all that I have.

Had a great conversation with my younger son tonight. He graduates with a master's degree in social work and bioethics on May 19. We're so proud of him! He's in Cleveland, so we don't see him too often. He'll stay there after graduation, is hoping to continue work at Cleveland Clinics. He's worked so hard. My older son is still living with us. It's been a long haul with him.

Need to make my bread dough in a while. Time for coffee. Have a great day all on GR!

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments 6:13 a.m. EST Had to wake up my hubby at 1 in the morning to take me to the ER 'cause I couldn't breathe. They gave an EKG, 3 breathing treatments, prednisone, magnesium, and sent me home with antibiotics, prednisone, cough syrups... I'm still pretty blocked in my lungs, but it's a bit better. Took my first day's dose of prednisone to start taking down the inflammation, and some expectorant to try to bring out what's in there and hopefully... Anyway, no editing this week, I'm feeling too yucky, and that's a shame 'cause I need the money. Well, no sense trying to do that when I'm not feeling at least my normal bad level, right? LOL Clearing out e-mail, Dmitry has to go to work at 10 this morning poor guy, so I'll be staying awake.

7:38AM Decided to not lay back down this AM after left for school. I wanted to get back to GR and post my review on Prey. And just enjoy some quiet time before Aeverie gets up. Just had my breakfast, which I don't do too often, so I enjoyed it. Now having my honey tea.

Not sure how to progress as far as books go. I have a read coming up in a couple of days so I know I can read another book before then. Maybe The Turtle Boy. We will see.

Katy I hope you get well soon. Rest is one of lifes best cures!

message 3821: by GeneralTHC (new)

GeneralTHC 9:30 AM Terri and Katy, I hope you guys get to feeling better soon.

Janie, I could recommend a lot of good short novels if you want. It's becoming my specialty here lately.

I just have not been able to get the kind of reading done I want in many days now. Hopefully I can do something about that now...

message 3822: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn (kcanty313) | 1870 comments 9:57 AM. Checking in on my favorite place. Going to focus on Carrie today. I thought I would have it read by now, but weekends have become time with my husband, so I can't complain. I might work in my crocheting I started a while back. I pulled it back out last night, and would love to finish it. It's going to be a blanket!

Terri-Congrats to your son! When I graduated with my Masters degree, it was an even better feeling than my Bachelors. Sorry to hear about your pain! Hope you feel better soon! *hugs*

Katy-Hope you feel better!!!!! Glad the ER was able to help.

11:09AM Aeverie watching a movie. He had his breakfast. I laid down with him at about 8:30. he was still asleep. So that was nice and relaxing. Now checking GR and see what is up.

No thanks Chuck, I decided I am just gonna take a pause for the cause till my next buddy read in 2 days with Cindy. Grandbaby is here anyway, makes it harder to read with him here. He is here till Wednesday.

Please take care of yourself and get to feeling better soon. The editing can wait, but I do understand about the money. God knows, we need it bad. Hope you feel better real soon. The prednisone is some really good stuff. I have taken it before and got better in a fairly quick fashion.

message 3825: by [deleted user] (new)

Teri - this is touching " I try to think of people who have it a lot worse, and appreciate all that I have".

I try to do the same thing, but sometimes it is hard, depending on the situation. I hope you feel better real soon!

12:29 p.m. and I'm really pressed for time today. Need to shower before work and should wash clothes, but I don't think I'm gonna have the time. Oh, what I wouldn't give for a job I actually enjoy. Not that mine is bad, it just pays very little and takes little thought, other than paying attention to detail. Have a great day folks!

My Oldest daughter, Amy, when she was 4 had to go on prednisone because she had a disease called ITP - Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura. It was a very scary time for us. Thank the good lord that it was an acute case. The prednisone made her eat like a horse, but also swelled her up. But it did her immune system a favor and she got past this potentially life threatening disease at her age.

Chris (cbrunner11) | 674 comments 1:22PM I have been away from this thread for a few days and I am saddened to see all the illness. Since there seems like a lot who either have colds, or other ailments please don't think less of me by saying I hope you all feel so much better soon.

Been working away since noon, and I am listening to Red Dragon and I am really liking it. Doing a buddy read with Janie so feel free to join us if you have the time.

Will be at work all evening so I am sure I will be around more.

message 3830: by Katy (new)

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments Thanks for the thoughts, all. Cindy, I wouldn't really call prednisone "good stuff" but it does work. It has nasty side effects, though; Janie pointed out a few. It also suppresses your immune system, weakens your bones, messes with your blood sugar and does other nasty things. I knew I couldn't turn it down in this instance, but I won't take it unless I absolutely must. My mom had to take it for decades for a chronic condition (chronic hypereosinophilia) and it really messed with her diabetes. I've heard of people taking it regularly who end up breaking their bones just from rolling over in bed. *shudders* I'll definitely need to up my calcium for awhile. Thank goodness Dmitry just bought a huge block of smoked gouda, and I'll have him grab me some yogurt, too, to help prevent internal problems from the antibiotics. Janie, so glad it helped your daughter! When it is needed, it really does do the trick. I am still running out of wind just walking around, but at least I'm not gasping and wheezing anymore, and I'm sure after another nap I'll be doing much better again.

5:15 p.m. Been snoozing all day since sending hubby to work, with Tiger and Erasmus spread out at the foot of the bed and Fluff occasionally wandering in to look out the window and try to dig out the catnip (that little guy has a real problem). I meant to call my primary-care physician today to tell him about the ER visit, but just couldn't summon the energy, and it's taken me hours to go through my e-mail (I've been on-line almost 4 hours and just moving SO SLOWLY...). Just took my "sleepy" pills - tizanidine and narcotic cough syrup and an expectorant - so I'll probably crash again soon. Sleep: it does a body good. Would love to take advantage of this surprise vacation to pound out some books, but I just mostly want to sleep, plus my eyes won't focus. Finally had to put on my glasses but even now things are blurred... Oh, well.

Hey, Chris, Red Dragon is the only book in the "series" I haven't read, because I heard Hannibal Lecter was only an adjunct character and he's the reason I read the ones I did. Thomas Harris's writing style drives me crazy... if it weren't for Hannibal, I wouldn't have even bothered, but there is just something about that suave serial killer I find compelling... :-)

4:30PM Having Dinner, grilled hot dogs and macaroni salad. It is good for a change. Been trying to read, but it is hard today with Aeverie. Soon I will try more. Have our last fit test to do before recovery week.

Katy I actually like his writing style so far. I think he is an excellent writer!

Katy, I like Harris's writing style as well, so bummer you didn't like it. If I remember in the movie Hannibal does play a pretty big roll. I am still early in the book, but if you find you have the time feel free to join Janie and I on the buddy read. I do hope you get to feeling better. Sounds like quite the ordeal you went through. Get as much rest and take care of yourself.

message 3835: by Chris (last edited Apr 29, 2013 03:17PM) (new)

Chris (cbrunner11) | 674 comments Chuck I am lucky enough to be able to read when it is slow, but I am encouraged to wear a blue tooth headset so it can be a selling point at my job. They don't know that I have an audio book in my ear. Still I would gladly leave this place if a decent job came along. Been trying to get out but the job market is tough.

On the amazon front, I have noticed that when I pre-order a kindle book from them it doesn't actually get sent to my Kindle till 3am. I am in the central time zone so maybe it is based on where ever Amazon's headquarters are. Good luck if you decide to buy it. I think I am going to wait a bit and put myself on the reserve list for the library.

message 3836: by Katy (new)

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments The thing with Harris is I think he's the one who started using "shined" instead of "shone" for past tense of "shine" and it just drives me CRAZY. I loved the STORY in The Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal and Hannibal Rising (especially those last two), but ... GAH! I dunno, he style just drove me nuts. I was very disappointed in how Hollywood chickened out on making Hannibal, though. Anyway, I don't actually have Red Dragon, cause, as I said, I read them for Hannibal and apparently he's not much in there.

6:39 p.m. EST Still slowly churning through e-mail. Not feeling sleepy but that will be the prednisone. That stuff makes you feel crazy, wanting to do things, but unfocused, y'know? Anyway, I hope I can disconnect soon, 'cause I'd like to finish this book and move on to something new... running out of time!

It's just depends on how it's used. Here's an example I found: The sun shone brightly while I shined my shoes.

That's the way it is supposed to be used. But I distinctly remember the use, "she shined her flashlight..." Ummm, no. Not unless it was looking a little dingy... Not to mention, "the moon/sun shined..." GAH! NO NO NO!! I blame all modern misuses of shined on Thomas Harris, 'cause he's the first one I noticed doing that... Now it's EVERYWHERE...

10:52 p.m. EST Up from a nap, eyes still really blurry, but feeling incrementally better than earlier.
