11:34 p.m. EST Just about done with everything. I just added a widget to my blog where I'll have a new story from the This is True archive posted on my blog each day, so that's a fun thing! Have just a couple more e-mails to go through and then I'll be back to reading.

10:35 PM. We're in bed, and I'm on GR. We actually just got home from dinner about 8 minutes ago...haha! Must be sleepy. Think I am going to try to read a little before passing out. :)Thanks Chris! We went to The Cheesecake Factory because we had a $10 off coupon. I hope you get to take your wife out soon. I think just the time I get with Mark is so special, and I really, REALLY miss it when we don't get time together. I can only imagine what some people feel when they don't get much quality time with their spouse, or especially if they have to work several hours away from home and can only return every few weeks. My dad does that some, but he's single. However, it makes me miss my dad a lot and worry about him.
Janie-Is the sale any good, as in, do they have a lot of books? I am thinking of trying to drag Mark out there sometime this weekend. haha!
Kathryn it was fabulous! They had a ton of just about every book imaginable. They had a lot of horror and mystery, then they had a bunch of other Adult fiction! I wish we could have spent more but funds are so limited this week. So glad we went though!
It is 12:06 a.m. and I just home from work not long ago. Made some dinner, and yes, I'm a little weird I guess. Since I work second shift, I cook when I get home.
Katy - So sorry to hear this about your friend. There is NEVER any need to personally attack anyone on GR. It is childish and immature.
Gonna read for an hour or two and go to bed. Yea weekend!!!

2:31 a.m. EST Well, that book had way too much sex. Blargh. Without those scenes, it probably would've been a five-star read, but as it was I 3 starred it. Let's hope the next is better! LOL
It's 3:48 a.m. and I'm still up. Thinking I might need to get off the series reads for a while (after I finish the ones I'm currently reading). It seems like it's slowing me down or something. Probably not, but still, I'm getting just a little burned out.
4:34 a.m. EST Just hopping on to check Amazon for freebies on my wishlist today, and clear out e-mail. Hubby was home again today with the flu; he's just back from going to the store to buy himself some medicine, poor thing. I just hope I don't catch it; I've managed to duck the flu since 2001 and I'd rather not catch it now after all this time. This book I'm reading is a lot of fun, I'm especially enjoying it after the last one where I kept having to skip page after page of sex.
OMG! Am I EVER going to bed? Don't know what's gotten into me tonight but I literally can't stop reading. Have been up nearly 24 hours straight. Guess I'm truly a book addict. Don't typically do this.
10:30AM Just had breakfast and checking GR Need to finish my book today! I have so many more I wanna read!
Katy, I know what you mean, I hate books with too much sex in them. The reason why I decided on Sparks for romance.
WOOT Cindy!! GO TO SLEEP! HEH! Hey I know what you mean though about not wanting to quit, especially when you have been captured by a great book.

10:55 AM. Been up for a while catching up on GR, Facebook, and just enjoying the rain this morning. We're going to take our camera out and take some pictures, maybe get some lunch, and enjoy the day since it looks like the rain has ceased. Going to bring my Kindle with me today so I can maybe read some while we run around. Off to get ready now...Have a great Saturday my GR friends. :)
3:56pm sitting in my armchair, watching the snow fall and catching up on my reading for the week while I've been busy
3.59 pm Thinking about reading another chapter of my book club book.( Hey Jordan, guess you're from the UK too? )
I have to go down a steep hill to get to my placement so if it hasn't I'll be slipping and probably hurt my back again, so fingers crossed for both of us.
There's a Waterstones close to my workplace. I go in there nearly every day during my lunch break, they're having a buy one get one half price sale.I have to force myself to leave without buying anything, I'll probably give in before my contract ends in April.
12:58PM Enjoying my book immensely! Will be done within the next half hour or so!
Cheryl and Jordan sorry you guys are getting so much snow! That stinks!

Janie, I don't really have a problem if it's realistic and doesn't cut into the story, but in this one it felt really gratuitous, like the writer has been told "sex sells!" and so threw it in whenever she possibly could, and basically made the MC totally nympho.2:22 p.m. EST Meh, wanted to keep sleeping, but close to time to wake up hubby to see if he feels up to trying to work today. Just had to chase His Royal Fluffiness off my stack of books; he was trying to climb on the dresser again, the little brat! We had quite a storm this morning and I swear at one point I heard what sounded like a tornado, but I didn't hear any sirens, so it must have been something else. Supposed to rain tomorrow, too. It isn't supposed to be warm enough AND sunny until at least next Friday, and even then it's forecast partly cloudy. *sigh*
So, just clearing out e-mail, waking up hubby, and then I'll probably read for awhile then take another nap.
1:26 PM working tonight, and just now getting to really check in here. Looking forward to being off tomorrow, because it will be the first day where we get snow and I don;t have to be at work. So once we get the 4-6 inches of snow they are predicting I will take my 3 year old out to play in it. Then Hot chocolate and a movie in side. Really looking forward to tomorrow, it's going to make today a really long day. I'll be around all evening so feel free to keep me company. Janie I am so glad you are liking the book, can't wait for your review.
2:54 p.m. EST close to finishing off my e-mail; also close to time to wake up hubby. Then the decision must be made as to how long to read and when to go back to sleep...
3:07 p.m. Just finished with e-mail. Need to go grab the mail.Holly, I've heard really good things about "The Help"; definitely want to read it someday!
Oh, I hate crying! But it sounded like it was a great story, so I'll just have to wait until I'm in a tough frame of mind :-)6:07 p.m. EST Just finished a long e-mail to the author of the book I finished to point out the details on some of the things I noticed in the ARC, just in case they were not caught in the final edition. I loved the book, though; it was a great story! Now I need to decide what to read next... but first, clear out some e-mail. Damn... it just keeps coming and coming... LOL
5:13PM Getting ready to have dinner And then do my workout. I decided to start reading Matched by Ally Condie. So far so good.
7:07 p.m. EST I picked and discarded several books before I settled on one. The first one was part of a series, so I didn't have time to read that much; the 2nd I realized I really needed to read Milton's Paradise Lost first to fully understand; the 3rd was the 2nd book in a series and I don't have the first book... GAH! So, I finally found one that is NOT in the middle of a series, but the first, and the next book is not yet out, and looks about the right length to finish up by tomorrow night... Let's see how it goes :-)
It's 10:00 p.m. and I have to get up early in the morning so I'm only going to sit up till about midnight or so. Reading some of my Harry Potter book and we'll see what's up next.
9:15 PM. Mark and I had a really great day today. Took lots of pictures of the beautiful flowers at the Arboretum, and my dad came back from being out of town so we went out to dinner. Now, Mark and I are going to watch the movie Sinister.
I agree with you Chuck. That's why I have classic, YA, Sci-fi, fantasy, non-fiction, spiritual/religious, etc. in my collection.
Cindy wrote: "There is NEVER any need to personally attack anyone on GR.I don't know that I agree with that. I probably would if people only talked about books here. But if someone start talking conspiracy theories, I may let them have it.
I just ignore that crap. It's not worth wasting my time. And, I can always report/unfriend a person.
Cindy wrote: "I agree with you Chuck. That's why I have classic, YA, Sci-fi, fantasy, non-fiction, spiritual/religious, etc. in my collection."The problem I have is I just can't figure out what exactly constitutes a "balanced diet" when it comes to reading. I read the other day there are well over 100 million books published, so how can anyone be "well-read" when a person can only read a few thousand in their lifetime?
This is true Chuck, but I do the best I can. I am even reading a vampire book right now. I normally detest vampire books, but I'm willing to read it with an open mind. Anyway, well-balanced is all in "the eye of the beholder" in my opinion.
Chuck wrote: "Cindy wrote: "There is NEVER any need to personally attack anyone on GR.I don't know that I agree with that. I probably would if people only talked about books here. But if someone start talking ..."
Chuck, Cindy is right. There is never a need to personally attack someone. You can disagree and debate, but ad hominem attacks are just out of line. Check out this:
http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
I was attacked for just passing on the fact that there was no way the reviewer could have read the book because it was not available to anyone. I wasn't rude, I didn't say the reviewer was out of line for making the review, I just answered another commenter who asked if it was an ARC and said no, the author hadn't provided any ARCs to anyone, nor had anyone else seen it. That was in August and only the intervention of a friend made the person stop attacking me. The author just showed up today and confirmed that indeed, there was no way anyone could have read the book unless they had physically broken into her house and read it directly off her computer, which cannot even be hacked since it is not connected. *shakes head* THAT is the sort of thing I'm talking about. THAT is the sort of abuse that goes on all over this site.
11:28 p.m. EST Well, I had planned to take a nap but that book wouldn't let me stop reading until it was done! Wow! Then I noticed I have another book called Mind Games on my stack, so I'll go with the theme! I think I've read enough Vine books to be okay for another month now. :-) Besides, since I just ordered the next Lovecraft Middle School book, I'll probably be reading that just as soon after I receive it as I can, which will be awesome! :-)
I have a few blog posts and such to set up for next week, so I think I'll do that and start the new book after midnight, just to have the days even... LOL
12:26AM Have not read much of Matched today, I have been playing an online game lol. But about to start reading now. Maybe have an hour or so.
Katy wrote: " http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/..."I can't imagine for the life of me what possesses people to write reviews on books they couldn't have possibly read.
Janie wrote: "12:26AM Have not read much of Matched today, I have been playing an online game lol. But about to start reading now. Maybe have an hour or so."2:22AM I need to catch up on my reading myself.
Janie, that book you were telling us about the other day is free on Amazon today... Umm, something about the coming of dark? Dang, it's only been a few minutes and my brain lost the name! Jordan, sorry to hear you have the flu; hope you feel better soon! Chuck, ToS on Goodreads allows this. While I don't agree with the practice, that reviewer is within her rights to do so. The other commenter was not, however, within her rights to attack me for providing information to another commenter. Those are the sorts of things I cannot for the life of me understand! LOL4:23 a.m. EST Just had some food, very full now, and sleepy, which is bad, 'cause going to sleep on a full stomach is all kinds of bad for the digestion. We're having another thunderstorm this morning, been going on for a couple hours now, but the lightning and thunder are finally settling down (otherwise I would have left my laptop unplugged awhile longer). Unfortunately ,it's almost time for the dog to go out, and he's definitely not gonna want to go out in this...
8:38am. Been up awhile and finally finished A Fine Balance. (liked it) Hope you enjoyed your day in the snow with your son, Chris. Hot chocolate after is just the thing! Kathryn, glad you had such a great day!
As far as being "well-read," I think each person has to decide for himself. I consider myself a "serious reader," and that designation is important to me. But I decide what a serious reader means to me. I read all kinds of different genres. I don't think a serious reader or a well-read person can be confined to a single genre. I think you have to round out your reading in whatever way makes sense to you. Ultimately, reading should be a pleasure and enhance your life. YOU decide what that means! It's not a competition or a race simply to see who can read the most. I read books for what I get out of them. They enrich my life and make me happy!
