2:29am EST. Awake but feeling really good. Snowing lightly, the world is beautiful this time of night. I love the snow, but I don't have to go out in it unless I really want to. I grew up in Chicago and there I was used to having a lot of snow. I've lived in Cincinnati for over 25 years now, and people here really freak out in the snow. Hardly anyone knows how to drive in it. Schools and businesses shut down even for small amounts of snow. It's pretty funny.

Plan for today is read, read, read!! (Oh hurt me...) Hope everyone has a great day!

Kathryn, so good to see your post!
Janie, I admire your discipline with the new workout!
Chris and Victor, hope you're both recovered!

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments 3:22 a.m. EST Husband has to go in early tomorrow, and neglected to bring me any Cokes today, so I'll have to go out early and pick some up to make it through the day. Unless I just sleep. But I'm too stoked about these Dresden Files books I haven't read already. However, I think I'll probably be taking a nap now. Tired!

9:03AM Hubby home today. We may haveto run out a little later. Both of us reading. I want to finish this book by tonight. It has made it to my list of faves for 2013.

Terri thanks! I need the work out!

message 2006: by Chris (new)

Chris (cbrunner11) | 674 comments It's 9:36AM and I am checking in with everything. I will be around all day so feel free to keep me busy with discussions and stuff.

Terri, I am fully recovered, Monday was really the only day It hurt to blink. I need to do more physical activity, I have become soft in the last few years, but it felt good to help out my Dad and get that driveway shoveled.

Victor, I have to be honest and say at this point in my life I would rather be back in school and have to go to a job I don't like everyday. College was great for me but High school sucked so I can understand your feelings. Good luck to you. Hope you are fully recovered from your shoveling as well.

Kathryn (kcanty313) | 1870 comments 9:46 AM. At my desk working away. Hoping today goes quickly. I miss being at home with my kitty girls, and I think they miss me, as well. Tonight we have a dinner for Mark since he got employee of the quarter last year, and one of the four people who got employee of the quarter last year will be employee of the year. I hope it is Mark because he works so hard. Guess I should get back to work! Will check in again and see how my favorite GR friends are doing! Oh and my aunt joined GR yesterday! She lives to read as much as I do!

Kathryn--sending hugs and hope for your husband's award. It's great to have a spouse to be proud of! Good to see your posts.

Charlie is great--he's getting so big! He's 8 months old now and at least 45 pounds, and when he stretches next to me in bed he's almost as long as I am. He's still a ball of energy, I just love playtime with him. (He's a ferocious tug player and also loves to play catch.) He's my boon companion. :)

Kathryn (kcanty313) | 1870 comments Thank you Terri! It is great to have a spouse to be proud of for sure! :)

45 pounds!!! Wow! I think I told you I used to have a miniature sheltie when I was younger. She was always so happy and energetic! Phoebe was a great dog, and so sweet. Shelties are great dogs and I hope we can have a dog once we buy a house. Our backyard is not equip for one now. But we will have to see how Gizmo and Pepper feel about it. Hahah

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments Sometime around 6 p.m. EST Just checking in on e-mail and adding review for Backup. Lots of tiny little offspring from where Betty's eggs have been hatching, ranging from ones that look to be a couple weeks old to ones almost too tiny to see. Did I mention Betty laid a third egg sac? She's a busy mamma spider!

Almost finished backing up my computer files. then wait for hubby to return home and try to figure out how to get a computer working for me to do my editing starting Monday. *sigh*

1:41am EST. Having a rough night, hoping GR will provide distraction and relief.

Katy, great news! My hub got himself a MacBook a couple years ago--I have commandeered it, and he has been quite understanding about it. I'd be lost without it. Is the Kindle still missing?

I just finished on the library site reserving a bunch of books (I now have 23 pending). My lists seem neverending, but I think that's a good thing. I requested a nice mix of recent fiction, including some short stories, a few cookbook/chef books, a couple memoirs, and some older works of fiction. Hub will pick up what's available on Saturday. I already have Heartsick in hand and am looking forward to the buddy read next week.

TGIF everyone!

7:30AM Enjoying my cup o coffee right now whilst I check into GR and check on friends. Terri sorry to hear about your rough night. Hope you are feeling somewhat better now. Gonna dig into Song of Susannah today. Only hit page 12 and already good. may have to run into town some time today. Happy March everyone!

Kathryn I am well, hope you are as well! Take care and dont work too hard.

Katy gratz on the new laptop!

message 2025: by Katy (new)

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments Thanks, Terri and Janie. I'm still accustoming myself to it, as the keyboard is very different, and when I move the cursor a certain way (and I can never do it deliberately) the time pops up right in front of everything. Heh. Plus apparently Amazon doesn't provide a desktop app to read Kindle books for Windows 8, because when I click the "download" button it takes me to where I can browse my books, but no place to download anything. Weirdest damn thing...

And yeah, the Kindle is still missing. Apparently this is one of the things the gremlin has decided to keep, despite my inconvenience. *sigh* Maybe I'll ask my mother-in-law if she can find me a deal. She's amazing at finding deals. Dmitry picked his up at Wal-Mart for $69, so if all else fails... but I loved my Keyboard Kindle, and his doesn't have the keyboard. And I don't adjust well to change... LOL

12:42 p.m. EST Crashed early this morning after barely making a start on Ghost Story and slept way too long. I have to finish the Dresden Files, write a blog post for a guest spot on a friend's blog, and finish all my ABNA reviewing before I go to bed Monday morning. *shakes head* Why do I always put things off like this? LOL So, skimming most e-mail, deleting most blog posts unread, and moving as fast as I can.

12:50PM Just got back from town, and no I did not hit the books store :( just can't afford this week. But maybe next ;) So just had lunch and now gonna read more.

Katy did you go to the 'buy Kindles' page? Cause there is a small link on that page for "reading apps".

Katy here is the link for the Windows 8 kindle app for PC. Yay!

http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html...

message 2028: by Chris (new)

Chris (cbrunner11) | 674 comments It's 3:08PM and I thankfully have the day off. Got a good nap in while my son napped and soon we will be off to the library. I have a few reserved myself. Only 2 books and 1 cd, so nothing like Terri's list.

Terri, I hope you are doing better now. Had I known, and had the ability to stay awake last night I would have talked with you as a distraction.

Congrats on the new laptop Katy.

message 2029: by Katy (new)

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments Yeah, Janie, that's the page I went to. Check I click "Download" here is where it takes me...
http://apps.microsoft.com/windows/en-...
And I can't get anywhere else, there is no button on that page to download. *shrug* And before you suggest it, the 'more info' link goes here:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007HCCNJU
and the "View in Windows Store" goes... nowhere. So, yeah, it appears there is no downloadable, desktop app for Windows 8, as that link is basically to take me into the Cloud reader. And finally "App Support" just opens a new browser window. There is no selectable option in the Help menu at Amazon to allow me to send them an e-mail. Believe me, I went through ALL of that yesterday trying to find a way to download the damn thing *frustrated sigh*

4:13 p.m. EST Just adding some quotes from the book and clearing out accumulated e-mail before returning to reading.

message 2030: by Katy (new)

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments PS: Finally managed to reach a useful help page. There is no downloadable desktop app for Windows 8, per this:
Kindle for PC is a free application that lets you read Kindle books on your Windows-based personal computer running Windows XP with Service Pack 2+, Windows Vista, or Windows 7--no Kindle required. Kindle for PC offers most of the features you would find on Kindle devices..
Apparently they haven't developed it or something, which is why the "download" link just takes me to info about the Cloud reader. Which means any .mobi file I have that I did not receive directly from Amazon... I guess I'll have to hope are DRM free and can be converted with Calibre. Which I'll have to download. I had JUST downloaded it on the other laptop, dammnit... Heh

I read ebooks exclusively, mainly mobi and epub files. FBReader is by far my favorite app that I have found to do this, and it works on Windows 8. www.fbreader.org/win32

As I said, when I clicked on the store icon... nothing happened. It didn't go anywhere.

Chuck, I'll take a look at that.

12:58 a.m. EST Just finished Ghost Story and am chomping at the bit to move on to Cold Days but if I don't clear out the e-mail it'll grow out of control, so... soon, my pet, soon *strokes book*

2:27am. Up early, I need some time to read. I have 2 books to finish and I'm supposed to start a rather difficult buddy read today (The Brothers Karamazov) and HeartSick starts Mon. So I'm pretty booked up and I'm also getting a new passel of library stuff today, which makes me really happy. Plan to spend some time in the kitchen today making gnocchi in a butter/sage/Parmesan sauce. It's probably 2 years since I made this, it's a real favorite and a challenge to make. Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend!
