I feel the same way to an extent. I love the smell of books and holding the actual book so I still collect Hard covers of my favorite authors. But the rest I have been getting in ebook form because I love having the book with me where ever I am, and they are usually cheaper.

I have not read any Laymon books, Janie had mentioned them in an earlier post and they sounded interesting so we have been chatting back and forth while I try to find one I want to start with. I have really enjoyed all your comments (Kyle, Janie, and Chuck). Trust me I am taking notes.

Especially when its been read by a smoker.

Chris (cbrunner11) | 674 comments Well good for you Kyle for quitting smoking. I hear that isn't an easy task but I have never smoked and don't feel like taking it up to find out :-)

I worked at a book store and people would return books and they stunk like all kinds of things I will not mention from time to time. It was horrible.

message 1905: by Chris (new)

Chris (cbrunner11) | 674 comments Well Kyle you are better for it. I can't imagine how tough cold turkey must have been, but I would say you are very noble for giving it up before your son was born. I know quite a few people who didn't give it up for their kids.

5:13 PM and I am anxiously waiting to get off of work so I can spend the night with my family. Got some good reading in today, got to love slow work days.

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments I like the feel of a physical book, but we have a very small place and are running out of room. Plus it's just chaos here and sometimes even when I have a book I can't find the bloody thing! Heh. So I have a lot of e-books and backup e-book copies of a lot of my p-books.

6:18 p.m. EST Just finished #8 Dresden Files and realized I don't have a copy of Backup! I thought it was included with my e-book copies--a lot of the shorts are--but not the anthologies, so... *sigh* Ah, well. On to White Night once I clear out my e-mail. Having to read these on the computer 'cause my Kindle is still MIA. I have no idea where it could be... we looked everywhere! This is really, really bad...

6:12PM Just had dinner, now seriously considering reading another laymon before 11/22/63. I chose No Sanctuary. So far its very good and I am pretty sure I can have it read by tomorrow. I have till the 25th.

Yes I meant FunLand not funhouse. I wanna read Funland and I am sure I will sooner or later. I will look at our local UBS, they generally have a lot of Laymon.

Kyle I have not read Night in the Lonesome October. Sorry you did not like that one. I wont rush to read it, but I would like to have the book.

I too was a smoker, about 21 years. I have not had a cigarette for almost 7 years. So glad I quit.

Janie you sound like you have a great night ahead of you. Also sounds like you get to see your grand baby quite a bit, that must be a lot of fun.

10:21PM Chris we get him on weekends when both mom and dad are busy, and we feel very fortunate to have such a blessing in our lives! So far he is watching movies with his uncle and I get to read. Hub went to bed, early morning for him. So it is quiet for now. Until baby gets bored with movies. LOL

message 1915: by Chris (new)

Chris (cbrunner11) | 674 comments That's wonderful Janie. I know all about when the little one is no longer interested in movies. My little Angel will not let me read because he wants to play. I get to read when he is asleep or I'm at work. I hope you have a great evening.

message 1916: by [deleted user] (new)

It's 5:51am and I've been awake since 3:30 with horrible symptoms (trust me, you don't want to know). Trying to get distracted with GR. I was kind of disoriented when I woke up and almost called my hub at 5am thinking he had to get up for work and was oversleeping. Luckily I remembered that today is Sunday and he's off. I'm really glad I remembered, he gets so little sleep as it is and he's already on call for the next week. I guess my days are so much the same that I just lose track of what day it is. Not good. Thank God for GR!

Reading 2 books that are pretty good. Buddy read for Fight Club starts tomorrow but I still don't have the book from the library. Hope it comes in tomorrow. Also getting ready for Heartsick, that book I do have. I'm generally not too successful with buddy reads, but I have 3 in the next 10 days or so, so this will be a good test for me.

Hope everyone has a good day. Happy Sunday!

10:34AM Drinking my coffee, have grandbaby settled in with his breakfast and Little Foot in the Land Before time. His Mama loved those movies! She also has a Little foot stuff toy she had since she was 2. LOL Anyway. Plan to get a lot of reading done today. Hubhy is at work. I hate with his new shift he works on weekends now, but he gets to see Kay more often now.

Terri hope you are doing ok now! I hate that feeling of disoorientation. I know back when I was working and such I worked a 3rd shift and would go to sleep before work at night and wake up worrying that I missed work. I hate that feeling. I think it happens to most people.

message 1923: by Chris (new)

Chris (cbrunner11) | 674 comments It's 11:00AM and I am at work, I hate working Sundays because time stands still. Plus it is a shorter shift which gets me home quicker (That's cool) but then I am short on hours for the week and have to make them up. It is a vicious cycle.

On the plus side I will be hanging out with you guys here all day, so I can have some decent distractions.

Terri, I hope you are feeling better too. I would rather be at work than sick, so my heart goes out to you. Feel better.

Janie it sounds like you have quite the pleasant morning going on. Hope the rest of your day goes well.

message 1924: by Katy (new)

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments Sorry to hear that, Terri. I often have the same problem with my husband, trying to remember whether or not he works on a given day, and sometimes he'll forget to tell me he has an unexpected day off or has to go in early and then everything goes crazy!

12:27 p.m. EST Well, my Kindle has still not been found. This is... REALLY annoying. Hubby tore the room apart yesterday to find it after I had a screaming-and-throwing-things-at-the-wall fit (I'm not always very stable...) because nothing would work. I couldn't open my Kindle desktop app, I couldn't figure out how to send the file to my Cloud reader, I'm absolutely convinced the PDF copy is a condensed version... *sigh* Then I tried downloading Calibre to see if I could change the .mobi I had into an .epub, but THAT wouldn't open, either, and that was the straw that broke my back and set me off... Hubby finally saved the day by finding me an .epub copy. Only problem? It's the same as the PDF and... I'm fairly sure it's condensed. But at least I don't have to read it on my computer; I can read it on my Nook now.

Other than that, today is gorgeous, gloriously sunny and already 61 degrees. Tomorrow is cloudy and 45 again, but I plan to go out and sit in the sun for awhile today to take advantage of it. Lovely. However, we have people working on the duplex next door... again... Oh, well, they'll just have to deal with my fish-belly-white upper arms and flab. I'm exposing as much to the sun as I can... :-)

First I went to have my prosthetic vampire fangs that I wear for Halloween fixed. Unfortunalty they broke again. Then I went to visit a good friend of mine up north. We had wine & cheese/movie night at her apartment. It was fun. Today I went out to dinner with my parents, my sister and her boyfriend. My sister is Vegan now which is crazy. LOL. I watched The Walking Dead tonight and as always it was awesome!! Now I'm headed to take a shower and get some reading in before bed.

It's 5;19am and I"m feeling so much better today! (Thanks for all the good wishes, everyone.) Just got done sharing my morning toast with the puppy. It's my first solid food in about 36 hours and was it ever good! Now savoring my coffee and checking up on GR. Today I need to catch up on some cleaning since I didn't get anything done over the weekend. Also a little laundry. Really, though, that stuff won't take long so I'll have plenty of time to read. I started another horror book by an author recommended by Janie. I really like it! I have a whole bunch of books in this genre now to check out, thanks to so many suggestions from my GR friends.

Katy, have you solved the Mystery of the Missing Kindle yet? How frustrating!

Hope everyone has a fantastic Monday!

9:16AM Good morning to all. Katherine, its just not the same without you here. We miss you bunches!

Grandbaby is still here. He will go home today sometime. Everytime I tell him I wanna read. He says in his sad lil voice "You no wanna read Mimi." LOL

Ugh Dan it stinks when your puter gets sick. My laptop is semi running but not like it should be. Hubby thinks it might just be my hard drive needs replacing. UGH

Terri glad you are feeling better now. :) And which author/book did ya decide on? Glad you are enjoying it.

message 1937: by Katy (new)

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments Terri, glad you're feeling better, but take it slow. A friend of mine and her husband have the Norvirus and they both felt better for a bit over a day and then *bam* it knocked them back down. I hope this doesn't happen to you.

As to the Kindle... still missing. I thought of one more place to look and we looked and all we found were spiders... *sigh* I have no idea. We've scoured every area on which I had it Saturday morning when I was coming to bed and nothing...

1 p.m. EST I'm awake but I'm really sleepy and thinking about just crashing again once I wake up Dmitry. I'm feeling so tired. I think it's the weather. After the gorgeous, warm, sunny day yesterday, today it's chilly and cloudy, and there is more rain in the forecast. We'll see...

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments Hope it goes well, Jordan. I need to figure out a way to see a dentist, as my two front teeth are corroding from the inside. But the cost... I don't know how we'll do it.

message 1943: by Katy (new)

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments Jessie, a still-slightly early happy birthday to you! 25... wow. I sorta vaguely remember 25. It was actually a pretty good year, although I was in college, divorced from my first husband, not yet married to my 2nd, a journalist and generally enjoying life. I hope you have a similarly wonderful year! Also: books are the best presents!

10:25 p.m. EST Just hopping in to add some quotes to the Dresden Files book I'm reading, now that I remembered how to highlight on this touchscreen Nook. Kindle is STILL missing. I'm starting to think the gremlin plans to keep it. Dmitry suggested a traditional Russian thing to try to get it back. He said you sit, spit over your shoulder 3 times, and say, "Devil, devil you had your fun, now give it back" It's called "chasing the devil away". Russians have a lot of cool superstitions. He said to give it another day, though, before taking that step...

10:07PM Family just left, will have my grandbaby next Saturday. I sure do miss him when he leaves. Now I am kinda tired but gonna try and read a bit before bed. A little worn out because tonight was our first night of Insanity, we did the fit test. Boy I have a lot of work to do!

Happy 25th Jessie! Hope you have a beautiful day! How awesome to get books for your birthday. Thats all I ever want. LOL

message 1945: by Victor (new)

I just finished watching Sinister. Super scary! Worth the $15 though.:D

Dan and Janie-Computer troubles are the worst! I've never had to take mine in, but there have been times when it takes hours and hours to install new virus protection software and my lap top is so old and cheap the battery life is, and I'm not exaggerating at all, nine minutes. Happy Birthday Jessie!
Add my name to the many that miss Kathryn!
Janie, good for you! (I think Insanity is well-named.)
Jordan, hope you're not too uncomfortable after your tooth extractions.
Katy, sounds like the Kindle mystery continues...

It's 3:11am and I'm up for the day. The puppy woke me up awhile ago by jumping on the bed and spooning with me. (My "puppy" is 8 months old and about 45 pounds.) I feel well-rested, though, so I didn't mind. I plan a lot of reading for today (how unusual...). Making spaghetti for dinner, so I'll spend some time in the kitchen making the sauce. It's supposed to rain here for the next 4 days. I don't mind, though. I love rainy days.

Janie, I just finished The Disappearance (Bentley Little) and am getting ready to start The Traveling Vampire Show (Richard Laymon) on your recommendation. You've introduced me to some good stuff and I appreciate it!
