Kathryn (kcanty313) | 1870 comments 4:12 PM. Well, my dad bought the truck and it sounds like we will be leaving soon. I have been reading a bit, but they have some loud country music playing and it has been distracting me. Haha. Oh well. Just really happy this turned out to be a better experience than I expected. And uh....much quicker. Lol

Shell (shellcampbell) | 757 comments Glad you had a better day than you expected Kathryn. I think sometimes days like that with a parent are some of the best. I really miss hanging out with my dad.

Angie, that sounds terrible, I hope your landlord is helpful and that you can get it all fixed up quickly.

Terri, I admire you tackling Middlemarch. I've owned it for a little while but I'm a bit intimidated by it. Maybe that can be my 'one book' for 2015 :) Glad you are enjoying it this time around.

Janie, I wish I had volume on my speakers here at work so that I could watch your vlog - hopefully I'll get a chance when I get home tonight.

A hungry rat will eat almost anything. They are omnivores, just like humans. A lot of people tell horror stories about rats nibbling on children in ghettos or whatever, but truthfully, humans don't taste all that good to rats and they will only nibble if they're desperate. Or we smell like peanut butter or something... rats love peanut butter.

8:11PM I had a great work out after dinner then got my shower! And now enjoying some coffee and gonna dig into Catching fire. Reading is going very well for me this month! YAY!

Kathryn glad you dad got his truck and that it was a good experience for you!

Kathryn (kcanty313) | 1870 comments 8:30 PM. Glad to be home!! The weather is NASTY! Dad and I met my grandpa at my grandma's nursing home. We saw Grandma for a bit. She really doesn't look well. :( I'm glad I got to see her. Grandpa looks good, though. Dad and I left, stopped off at Luby's for dinner, and enjoyed the ride in his new truck. It is so much more comfortable than his Dodge. Mark has to leave at 4 AM for Houston, so he needs to get to bed early. Hoping he has a safe trip because the weather is wet, cold, and gross. Got some reading in at the dealership, but going to read more in a bit. Need to wind down a little from driving all day. Hope you all have been having a great day. :)

Shell (shellcampbell) | 757 comments Janie, glad you're having a good month of reading! Mine has been pretty good too. I've had a good feeling about 2014 and so far it seems I was right!

Kathryn, it's never nice to see our grandparents looking unwell so I'm sorry to hear about your grandma, but it's great that your grandpa looks good and that you got to spend time with them both.

1.32 PM Just raced down to the shops in my lunch break. I have my family coming for an early birthday lunch on Saturday because my grandma goes back to NZ on Wednesday. I'm going to slow roast some some lamb forequarters then cut it up and fry the pieces in seasoning so that everyone can put together their own yiros. Yummmmm. So I have to get the lamb cooked overnight tonight so that I can have everything read in time. Just going to do a meze platter with saganaki, dolmades, tzatziki, hommus, pitta, olives etc for starters so should keep things pretty simple. Hopefully this year someone remembers a cake as Toby's mum forgot that was her job last year haha!

Kathryn, I'm glad you got to see your grandparents. That's such a special relationship. I know how hard it is to watch them decline. (By the way, how's the kitty you found?)

Shell, can I come to the birthday lunch?? The food sounds amazing. I tried Middlemarch several times in the past and just couldn't get into it. I don't know what's different this time unless it's the fact that I've been reading a lot of 19th century fiction and I'm more comfortable with the style. I'm 300 pages in and I love the story.

Katy, I sure wish something could be done to make you more comfortable.***Hugs and healing thoughts.**

Janie, I also am having a great month of reading! I'm taking my time with books and really savoring what I read.

3:33am EST. Can't sleep tonight but I really don't mind. Taking a short break from my books and checking out GR. Charlie is lying on the bed next to me sound asleep. (That pack animal desire for contact.) The house is so quiet and peaceful. I love the wee small hours of the night.

message 8963: by Angie (new)

Angie | 76 comments Terri I'm often wake at that time as well. I find it hard to put my books down or put my nexus away. Its 11.20 am here and I've just finished Firestarter and apart from going swimming and then on to the library my day is quiet.

message 8964: by Katy (new)

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments I appreciate that, Terri. I am having a colonoscopy on the 27th and maybe it will provide a definite diagnosis and they'll be able to tell me some steps I can take to returning to living a more or less normal life. I'd kill for a steak right now. Damn, even salad sounds good, and I hate rabbit food... *laugh*

7:43 a.m. EST Probably will go to bed soon, but want to wait until after hubby's alarm goes off. It would be annoying to just be falling asleep and then be woken again. He has to be to the new store by 9, I guess to help set it up or something.

Kathryn (kcanty313) | 1870 comments 12:31 PM. Forgot to post in this thread earlier! Long night....Mark left at 4 AM, and I was wide awake when he left. When I FINALLY got back to sleep, Pepper decided she was confused, and started to meow for her daddy. When she decided she was done two hours later, I went back to sleep. Again, it is a nasty day outside. I hope and pray Mark gets to Houston safely. I assume he did because I haven't heard otherwise. Before I get settled into reading mode, I'm going to start some dishes and pick up around the house since I didn't get to do it yesterday. Looking forward to reading today, and hopefully lots of it. LOL

Terri, thank you for asking about Spots! She seems to be doing well! Well, I assume it's a she because it's a calico, and male calicos are only 10% of the calico population. Anyways, she is eating a lot, drinking, and I even bought her some wet food, which she devours. I was really concerned when we first found her in the garage because she is so little, her bowels wouldn't be working properly or she'd have a problem with infection or something wrong because of lack of nutrition, but she is doing well on that end. Spots is getting a little less afraid of us, which is really nice. She is pretty cute, and seems like she really wants to be petted and loved on, but is still a little afraid of us, which is understandable. I hope we can find her a warm, loving home because I don't think we can keep her because Gizmo and Pepper have been together now for 4 years. And....Gizmo is a Momma's cat. SHE WOULD BE PISSED. LOL. haha! But really, I can't hurt Gizmo like that. I think she was hurt when Pepper came along, but Pepper took to Mark, so Gizmo got over it. But every now and then, when Pepper gets attention from me, I see Gizmo staring all jealous-like. I'm her's, and she shows it. haha

She'll, sounds like a wonderful feast yummm, hope you enjoy your family and the beautiful weather.

Janie you are going full spread ahead. So glad you enjoyed, The Book Thief. We are going to see the movie in the next couple of weeks.

1:42PM Sitting here reading and waiting for Hub to get home. We need to make a run into town, just the 2 of us. I have been devouring Catching Fire! I feel very fortunate so far to have enjoyed all the books I have read so far for this month. Had a salad for lunch and some Orange juice. Now getting back into my book.

Kathryn I am happy to hear kitty is doing well. That is great, and I hope you can find a new home for her. I totally understand not wanting to interrupt the lives of your other 2 kitties.

Susan, yea I think I got lucky with book choices this month because I am loving all of them. I want to also see the Book Thief, I feel like I almost have to see it come to life right off the pages, if it is good that is.

Kathryn (kcanty313) | 1870 comments 10:15 PM. Mark got home about thirty minutes ago. He said the weather was nasty the whole way there and the whole way back. I am so glad he is home safely because I worried all day. We went out and checked on Spots, and she is still not coming up to us. It will just take time. She doesn't run off as quickly as she used to. Anyways, today went quickly, and I feel like I didn't get much reading done. I did get the chores done I wanted to get done, had a nice workout, and made minestrone (vegetarian) soup and a grilled cheese on sourdough bread for dinner. Texted Janie throughout the day, as well. We are both excited about meeting up on Saturday, and of course we sit here and influence each other talking about books. haha! Mark is watching his news for a bit, and then we are going to watch part 1 of the Project Runway finale! Or, I think it's part 1. haha! Tomorrow is my daddy's birthday, so we are going to go out to dinner for him tomorrow night. He loves his new truck. Anyways, going to read a bit more before PR, maybe eat a little crushed vanilla bean ice cream. I have a feeling I'm going to sleep well tonight after last night. LOL

12:06AM Wow just finished Catching fire about 30 min ago and absolutely devoured it and LOVED it so much! Can't wait to watch the film! Had a great time conversing with Kathryn today and as she said pretty much influence each other to search out more books, work ourselves up in a frenzy for book shopping on Saturday, but it so much fun. Now I must decide what to choose to read out of my last 4 book for Jan TBR.

Happy birthday to your Dad Kathryn! And I bet your soup was unbelievable I happen to love Minestrone!

Kathryn, I missed PR last night. Had it set to record but we lost the satellite signal. Will have to pick it up next week. Did you see that Tim Gunn's program starts next week? (Spots sounds so precious. Hope you find a good home for her.)

11:25am EST. Having a lazy morning. Went back to bed after Larry left for work and didn't get up till 10! Got some excellent sleep last night! Not much planned for today except time on the laptop and, of course, lots of reading. It's Friday so it's pizza night! Larry is going out to play music tonight, so I'll be reading tonight as well. Kathryn (kcanty313) | 1870 comments 1:25 AM. Sitting here watching Dexter with Mark. All of a sudden, I am really tired. Dinner with my dad was nice and the food was super yummy. I had a cedar plank salmon with mashed sweet potatoes, and fresh green beans. I tried to make a video tonight, but computer was just not cooperating. So, I'm just going to do it some time tomorrow. Tomorrow should be quite busy, but worth it! I am excited. In the morning, we are going to go buy Mark a new truck battery because the ice storm killed Mark's battery. He has been driving my car, and frankly, it's getting old for the both of us. haha! Then, around noon I'm meeting up with Janie and Susan for book-shopping and coffee. Janie and I have met before, as most of you might remember, but I'm meeting Susan for the first time. This should be really fun. Then, after that, we have to help my second dad Thom move his office because he had his test Thursday where they go through your leg to look at your heart. He can't lift anything, but has to move his office this weekend, so he needs the help. His heart surgery is on Tuesday, so that's why they had to do the test this week. After we help him, my dad is taking me out for my birthday because he is leaving to go out on a few oil rigs and is going to miss my birthday. Should be a fun-filled day. :) So, good night, and I hope you all have a great Friday evening!

Janie, I will make my video later. Bed is calling, and I think my computer just wanted to be stubborn. haha!
