Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments Hey, Terri! We must have posted about the same time. The picture of the final product is right above your post. Here is one "during" the process, showing me reading while the artist works...

Couldn't show while the needle was going, as you can't really see anything then, with the needle in the way. Artist had some great work, too. Must be nice to work in a shop!

12:44 p.m. EDT I crashed HARD once the adrenaline wore off. I was up for an hour in the night reading, but other than that, I slept the better part of 18 hours... O.o It happens. I'm so happy to have new ink. I'm going to make a concerted effort to do this more often... Back to reading today, after taking another look at one section in Nick's book.

Chris (cbrunner11) | 674 comments 12:09PM, I am stuck at work and desperately looking forward to my day off tomorrow. It has been a long long couple of days. Been a very slow morning so I did what I have been putting off for a long time. I started a blog. I have no idea what I am doing but guess I will figure it out along the way.

Katy, your tattoo looks great!!! Did you design it yourself? I bet you were beat after all of that. I keep thinking I would like one, but the cost and the fact I am a bit of a wuss when it comes to needles keeps me from doing it.

Terri, it is great to see you posting again.

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments Chris, no, I found the image in this book: Danger in Cat World. I'm not at all artistic, but I can sometimes "see" things in my head, and I did have an artist in Minneapolis who was practically psychic. Between the two of us, we came up with this, the bottom left on my arm:

The basis of the one on my ankle was provided by my soul sister, but I've built a lot around it. I'm bad with needles, too, but this is different somehow. But yes, they ARE expensive. I had to save a good while for this one.

Will be Cort, Amy, & Aeverie, our niece Shelby is also going to come not sure if Randy's Sister is gonna show or not, which is Shelby's nana. But it should be a fun time.

Chris hope your day goes well!

Katy, your new tattoo--and the old ones--look awesome! I could never get one because of the needles (plus I'm too old).

Chris, enjoy your day off--you deserve it!

Janie, hope you had some great family time.

3:39am EDT. Can't sleep, leg hurts, meds aren't working, but at least I have a good book to distract me. Taking a break now to check out GR. Hub and I both got haircuts today. That always feels good. Spent the afternoon watching baseball and had a simple dinner of club sandwiches and fresh corn on the cob. Hub has also been working all afternoon to figure out a song on his guitar. I enjoy it when he plays. It takes me back to the days when we were dating and the early days of our marriage when he was a professional musician. Personally, I could listen forever to a song and I would never be able to figure out how to play the music! I can't sing either, simply cannot carry a tune. Larry was very tolerant though when the kids were little and I sang to them all the time. Thinking about stuff like that makes me long for grandchildren. Some day...

Back to reading. Have a great Sunday all you GR people!

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments Terri, you are NEVER too old. In one of my tattoo magazines, I saw a lovely elder woman - she had to have been at least 80 - with a gorgeous butterfly tattooed on her cheek. :-) Sorry to hear about the pain. As I suspected, my pain clinic discharged me, so I'm screwed. I'll have to go off my meds and live with the pain and am NOT looking forward to it... *sigh*

4:12 a.m. EDT Going to start another book, but probably go to sleep soonish. I think we'll be hitting the pub in the afternoon for a pint or two, as it's hubby's day off. Hope you all have a great day!

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 345 comments My dad got his first tattoo when he was in his 40s, and a couple friends did too. It's no big deal I don't think nowadays, loads of peoples have em :) I've got one on my wrist, it's my cat's name with a little star above it, but that was before I had my kid, so I want his name on me now too. I'd also like my dog's paw print somewhere, but haven't decided where to put it. And maybe the Unfound symbols from Dark Tower somewhere too, lol. I have a friend though who is like addicted to getting them, she has so many I've lost count. Same with my brother in law, he's covered with em up his arms, hands, neck, shoulders, chest, legs. He was another one who didn't start getting them til later in life, but once he did he just kept going.

It's 9:16 a.m now, I'm just chilling sitting here on the couch checking up with groups, mostly being bored :)

Hey, I'm in my 50's and wouldn't hesitate for a minute to get another tattoo if I feel the urge to do so. Got up early this morning in an attempt to actually get some reading done. Sitting at the table on GR's and reading in peace for once. It's really quiet around here in the mornings. Otherwise, not so much. Hope everyone has a great day!

It is ironic that David Beckham who did more than any one to make tattoo's fashionable is more of an icon for his skin than for his football skills, the main trouble I find with Tattoo's is that people never think before hand of what they are going to have done, so it just ends up looking awful.

And don't get me started on the discrete lady tattoo flower, little bird etc I just think it looks cheap, I have a real bad vibe about tattoo's on women, which is kinda weird as I am a really non-judgemental guy!

Yeah, Dmitry was like "Well, at least that will save you some money" but I had to remind him that I'm not at all looking forward to the levels of pain I used to endure before I started having treatment, and I'm especially worried about how badly these broken teeth are going to hurt without the morphine cushion... :-(

Sean wrote: "IMOP The only tattoo's worth a damn are Tribal Tat's BUT you should only be allowed to wear your own tribe's tattoo's hence I could wear Celtic symbols. I have know hundreds of people with tattoo's..."

Well, now Sean, that's sort of a blanket statement. Other than my first tattoo, which was just to have my first one done, all of mine have deeply personal meanings, and I've put a lot of thought into them. Most people who are serious about body art do the same thing. If a person doesn't want them, that's fine, but it seems a bit harsh to pass judgment on people who choose do to this.

Chuck wrote: "OMG! I hope you have some kind of stash. I feel for ya. Did they give you anything at all? Something to help hold you over to you find another doctor or something? I would literally die if that happened to me."

Actually, no. They are supposed to provide 30 days of meds, but she wrote the letter later the same day I was in. However, I didn't receive it for over a week, so I'll have just a bit over two weeks to find another option. However, I've spoken in the past to my primary care physician, and I think he'll be willing to work with me for a few months to go off them. I'm calling on Monday to go in to see him ASAP so make certain of that. I don't want to start the weaning off process until after Dragon*con, and I'm hoping he'll feel it's safe to provide me the meds for a few months. He said he couldn't do so consistently and long-term, but it sounded to me like he'd be willing to provide them short-term. If not... I'm well and TRULY screwed, 'cause there is no way in hell I'm EVER going to trust a so-called "pain-management" clinic again. I've learned of an herb called kramot that has anecdotal evidence of helping with pain, so I'm going to try that once I'm off the narcotics and see if it helps. If not... I might have to do some law-breaking.

1:24 p.m. EDT Planning to wake Dmitry up soon to go down to the pub. I saw the time wrong and initially tried to wake him before noon, which is no good! *laugh* So, I'll start again about 2. Meanwhile I'll finish up my e-mail and then do some reading. Hope today finds everyone else well.

Katy, just read about your situation with the pain meds. How awful!! Sometimes it's so difficult to get other people (especially health care "professionals") to appreciate what it's like to live with chronic pain. Hope you can get some help with your primary care MD.

9:17am EDT. Was up most of the night reading and trying to get my "puppy" (he's about 3/4 the size of a full-grown collie) from jumping on the bed trying to get me to play and/or cuddle. I finished 2 great books and have started a new one, so now I have 3 going. Ready to get a major haul from the library, probably tomorrow. It's already 78 degrees with 90% humidity. Glad I will be indoors all day. I've already finished the laundry and kitchen prep for dinner, so I have pretty much the rest of they day to read and nap. Hope all my GR friends have a great day!

Thanks, Terri. My PCP gave me another month's supply of the meds, and it sounds like he will be willing to help me wean off the meds. He said my timeframe was unrealistic, though, and that at the level I've been taking it'll probably take at least a year to wean off them. He has requested the last few months' records from the pain doctor and I'll try to go in to see him again before Dragon*Con to see what he says. He's a very kind doctor, and while it's sometimes a long wait to see him (since he'll sit with you as long as you want to ramble at him), I think he's really worth it.

1:44 p.m. EDT Went and grabbed some KFC after seeing the doctor. It's almost time to wake Dmitry and I'll be doing more work on this manuscript. Tomorrow night is a birthday party for one of my cousin's oldest friend's partner, so that should be fun. I am also "doing lunch" on Monday with another of her friends, so hopefully I'll start to expand my social network and start going out and spending more time with people. I think having a stronger local social network will be a good thing, as I'm often here alone and have no recourse in an emergency. Plus I just miss having people to go hang out and be goofy with. Dmitry is always working, and thank goodness he has a job since I can't. Since we just have the one car it's a bit tricky to meet up with people, since it has to be morning or middle of the night, but *shrug* I can work it out, I'm sure.

Jordan, sounds like a great day. How old are the year 6s? When I was 6th grade I was 11, and I adored my teacher that year. He was just out of college, we were his first class, and we were OBNOXIOUS little twerps, but we had a great time. He passed away a bit over a year ago. Cancer. Damn cancer...
