Watched DADDY & THEM an ensemble piece written, directed and starring Billy Bob Thornton, quite enjoyed the film.

Chris (cbrunner11) | 674 comments I had every intention of taking advantage of some time to myself and read, but I'm just to tired. Sitting on the couch watching some tv and checking in here. Hope everyone is having a good weekend. After the HORRIBLE day I had yesterday at work I am ecstatic to have the weekend off for a change. Looking forward to som quality time at home. No if I could only catch up on some sleep.

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments Ah, Chris, sorry yesterday sucked, but at least you have some time to decompress. Enjoy it as much as you can!

3:45 p.m. EDT Woke up about quarter to three (so about an hour ago) and have just been situating myself for the day. Once I finish with my e-mail, I'll be grabbing a Coke and some water and settling in to read. Dmitry has the day off tomorrow (I think his last day off was my cousin's wedding on the 29th of June) so we'll probably be going to Outback for lunch! Not only do we have the gift certificate I received from one of my authors for my birthday, but we also have a $5 coupon, so between the two we shouldn't have to pay anything out of pocket for a really nice lunch! Yay!

message 5456: by Victor (new)

Victor 3:44 PM and I git back from a festival. I rode lots of rides and ate good unhealthy food:D Now I'm going to read before we hit another fest. No rides though. Its an Italian fest so probably going to eat some pizza:) Hope everyone enjoys the rest of their day:)

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments 9:56 p.m. EDT Reading some stuff I've really been looking forward to - A.J. Scudiere's latest is a real page-turner! It comes out in 3 days, be watching for it: The Shadow Constant. Now I'm about to start the 2nd Twice Shy book, Special Dead, a very interesting take on zombies! So burning through my e-mail as quickly as possible so I can start...

12:03 a.m. and I'm taking forever to read the two books I'm currently reading. Still no grandbaby. Camping tomorrow and I took a much needed break today. Went down by the river with a couple of friends and had a great time. Catching up on posts and reading a little bit before bed.

message 5460: by Rachel (new)

Rachel 1:32am

had a lousy couple of days-I mentioned I adopted a sweet cat from the shelter- unfortunately as each day progressed I physically felt worse and worse and nothing has made me feel better so with a very heavy heart I will return her to the shelter tomorrow

it's a no kill shelter and they will take care of her until she finds another home-I know she will make the perfect pet for someone-I wish I could have kept her :(

message 5461: by Squire (new)

Squire (srboone) | 141 comments 0055 CST. I have just finished another book by Brian Keene (The Conqueror Worms) and once again am disappointed. What do people see in this author? His stucture is clumsy, he over-ladens his books with cultural refences, and all of his works I've read wallow in a self-pity that keeps him as a mid-list horror author. I just don't understand...

O well. Back to work.

Just been on the news sales up 500,000 % on amazon, got my copy from independent bookseller, just pray it's FIRST PRINTING. If it is I will be onto a real winner, as it would have had a small print run. The book itself is supposed to be really great

9:56AM Sitting here quietly sipping some coffee and checking out GR. Finished City of Bones, so now gonna focus on finishing Flowers in the Attic. Also want to continue on with the Odd Thomas series, so will probably start that one and Cryer's Cross.

3:00PM Son left for work, Kay left earlier to babysit, hub will be home in about 1 and half hours, so the house is really quiet right now outside of the dogs chowing down. LOL Been enjoying the much cooler day with some much needed rain, well drizzle actually. But we will take what we can get.

7:50 p.m. and I'm gonna try and go to bed at 9 tonight. It's gonna be a long day tomorrow. Work at 4:00 a.m. Had a great day at the campground with friends today, but decided not to stay the night because of the early day at work in the morning. Have gotten a bit of reading done the last hour or so and plan to read for another hour before bed. Still no grandbaby. It's becoming a scene from a comedy in ways. Guess she will come in her time and not mine. LOL

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments 10:38 a.m. EDT Oops. Fell asleep last night around 6 and didn't manage to crawl completely out of bed until 10 this morning. Guess I was tired or something. I have a LOT of work to do this week, although I a bit disappointed I didn't manage to finish Cobweb Bride in order to post the review today for official release day (it just became available in hardcover and paperback on Amazon today, but the e-book has been available since June 22). Anyway, it's pretty cool story: Death has refused to take anyone until he finds his Cobweb Bride and how that affects the various people in this psuedo Medieval time period. It's not in a real place, but references other places that are, such as France and Spain. So far it's pretty cool. Vera Nazarian has a writing style that is as eclectic as her books - going from parodies of classics to science fiction, to a wonderful set of fable-type short stories sit together into an overall narrative that creates a world. I like her stuff a LOT... Anyway, so, check it out if it sounds cool to you! I need to finish clearing out my e-mail and then start working.

Victor 11:07 AM I have had a crappy morning. My cat spilled a glass of milk on my laptop. It's sitting in a bag of rice right now. I hope the rice saves it. J hear it can take months fore the rice to work. I'm hoping the rest of my day is better.

message 5473: by Chris (last edited Jul 15, 2013 09:13AM) (new)

Chris (cbrunner11) | 674 comments Rice doesn't work, it will dry up some of it but the longer it sits the more damage it will do. If you are confident enough, open your laptop and dry it with a hair dryer that has a cool air setting. If you are really confident and can separate the components from the housing you can dry it with a lint free cloth.

The only thing rice will do is fill your laptop with rice and cause it to over heat when you use it.

Good Luck

message 5474: by Victor (new)

Victor Thanks Chris. I'll try the hair dryer

message 5475: by Chris (new)

Chris (cbrunner11) | 674 comments Good luck to you victor, I really hope your day gets better. Try to get the housing open on it to dry out as much as you can. Also remove your battery quickly, if any type of power is running through the laptop corrosion can start on the metal components.

message 5476: by Katy (new)

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments That sucks, Victor. Thanks for the advice, Chris; my cats are always messing up my husband's desktop computer; we've had to replace the keyboard and several mice. Little brats... Bast love 'em

12:22 p.m. EDT wow, there was a lot of e-mail and stuff to do this morning. Almost done and ready to edit! ooh, I just posted a HUGE giveaway on my blog, four huge prize packs of books and swag if anyone is interested; blog is linked in my profile.

11:23AM Just finished baking a cake for Kay, her birthday today. She turns 15. Wow where does the time go. We have Aeverie for a few days. He is watching a movie. Already had his lunch. I however have not yet. Been busy with baking and laundry so far this AM. Managed to read about 20 pages so far and that is it.

Victor sorry to hear about your laptop.

message 5478: by Katy (new)

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments Oh, 15! Wow. 15 was a very good year for me; hope it is for her as well!

message 5479: by Victor (new)

Victor I took the battery out Chris. It was bone dry. The worst is on the keyboard. I have no clue where it all went though

message 5480: by Chris (new)

Chris (cbrunner11) | 674 comments Well victor, this is where your comfort level really comes into play. Try to take apart everything you can and try to find it, or shell out some dough and head to a best buy geek squad or computer repair place quickly. It might not be as bad as you think.

You could also flip it so the keyboard is upside down and try to let what ever still might be in there drip out, but canned air or that hair dryer should help.

message 5481: by Katy (new)

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments 1:27 p.m. EDT A friend sent me almost the entire Discworld series in Kindle format over the weekend; only just added 'em all. 38 of them! wOOt! Can't wait to dive into THAT one... but it could be awhile.

message 5482: by Victor (new)

Victor How much do you think that would cost Chris? My laptop is an old Acer I've had for about five years.

message 5483: by Chris (new)

Chris (cbrunner11) | 674 comments Victor wrote: "How much do you think that would cost Chris? My laptop is an old Acer I've had for about five years."

Not sure, I deal with Cell phones, and when those get wet it is a very quick trip to the trash. I would call around and find out. Best Buy will be pricy, I worked for them years ago and the diagnostic fee was crazy in itself. I would google computer repair places by you and start calling around. Some places will charge a diagnostic fee but take it out of the cost to fix it if you stay with them.

message 5484: by Victor (new)

Victor Okay. Or seems to be working. I just put the battery back in and powered it up. Or loaded but then a bunch of beeping and then it powered off.

message 5485: by Chris (new)

Chris (cbrunner11) | 674 comments Give it till tomorrow to try to dry out, and the rice might be jamming up the fan. Try to blow out as much rice as you can.

I have fixed a few laptops in the past and they can be very difficult to get apart. If we lived closer I would gladly try to fix it for you. Good luck with it, and try to wait till tomorrow to power it up. I would also leave the battery out till then too, just in case.

message 5486: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn (kcanty313) | 1870 comments I wouldn't keep trying to turn it on while there is liquid in it. That can really fry something inside. I learned that a while back. Just give it a few days, and do what Chris said, then try it.

8:00PM Had a great Kenpo workout tonight after dinner of Chicken wraps! YUM. Now Aeverie is sleeping, just hope he stays sleeping till morning. Will be finishing up Flowers in the Attic here soon. One messed up story that is for sure.

Victor I agree keep it upside down to let the liquid dry up and keep the battery out. Hope it dries up for you.

Squire (srboone) | 141 comments 0241 CST. At work, but my my poison ivy rash is starting to itch like crazy. Left my calomine lotion at home so I threw some bleach water on it. Stung like hell, but dried it up quickly and got rid of the itch.

Victor, what a bummer about your computer. I hope Chris's advice works. (How cool is it to have access to such an expert on GR? Yah Chris!)

Janie, hope Kay had a great birthday. What a cool age to be! Is she your youngest? (My youngest just turned 30! But I'm old...)

5:17 EDT. Haven't posted in a while. Just been feeling kind of bleh and don't want to inflict it on others. I have been doing a lot of reading. It's been really hot (95) and humid, so I just stay indoors (like that's something new for me...) Puppy turned a year old and he's almost the size of a full grown collie. He's so lovable--and he's never spilled anything on my laptop! Have a great day everyone!

11:10AM Still overcast today and will probably hang around the mid 70's again. No rain at the present moment though. We need it badly and I am thankful we got what we have in the last few days.

Aeverie watching a movie, me checking into GR and about to start reading some more of Cryer's Cross.

message 5495: by Katy (new)

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments Terri, I hear ya; I've sometimes disappeared from the 'net for a year or more because I was feeling blah and didn't want to inflict on others... I hope you'll feel better soon, your presence is missed!

1:12 p.m. EDT Ready to finish this editing project, only 70 pages left. It's great premise, but it's about war and the horrible things that men do in war, and ... it's REALLY hard to read. But the end approaches! And then I can cringe while waiting for the next... which is supposedly worse... O.o Hehe. Anyway, so I need to clear out e-mail and then go to it!

message 5496: by Chris (new)

Chris (cbrunner11) | 674 comments 12:43 PM and I'm working the closing shift so I have only been at work for a little while. Just checking in on GR to see what everyone is up to.

Terri so glad to see you post again. You were missed and I hope you are doing better.

Victor hope the Laptop is ok when you try it out, let me know how it goes.

Hope to get some reading in today, I will be by myself for the second half of my shift so I will be able to do what I want as long as we aren't busy.
