message 3805: by Janelle (new)

Janelle | 347 comments I was at Goodwill using their job placement service. Took a stroll to the back to check out the books and found The Lake by Richard Laymon. Very Nice for $1! Excellent condition :-)

OOoOo Richard Laymon is a favorite for me Janelle. He does get out there sometimes with his books, but they are always entertaining.

Squire (srboone) | 141 comments Woke up on Thursday and found this little guy (big guy, really) just seemingly abandoned on my porch! ;>D

description

A sequel to The Three Musketeers that picks up the story immediately after the events of that book and was unfinished at the time of Dumas' death plus an unpublished novella that Dumas wrote that ties up all the loose ends of the book. It concerns the adventures of Richelieu--D'Artagnan, Athos, Porthos and Aramis aren't in this one.

message 3812: by Alondra (new)

Alondra Miller I haven't bought any in almost 3 months. I am still in my moratorium on book buying.

I hardly post on here, because I buy too many books. With being limited to 5 books per quarter, I can list them out; but also be more selective in my purchases. :)

message 3813: by Squire (new)

Squire (srboone) | 141 comments I understand. I don't have an e-reader, so my purchases are primarily hardcovers. That cuts down on my #of purchases.

Beth Roberts | 2 comments I buy too many books, and I need to cut down. Maybe listing here will make me see what I really spend. Most of what I buy are Kindle books that have dropped in price. Some are used library finds. Guess we'll see if shame helps me limit myself. Probably not.

So, for April I have acquired:

1. Fear the Drowning Deep
Kindle $1.99
2. Shrovetide
Kindle FREE
3. In The Company of Wolves: Follow The Raven
Kindle FREE
4. The Unseeing
Kindle $1.99
5. Sleeping Giants
Kindle $1.99
6. The Ocean at the End of the Lane
Kindle $2.99
7. The Perfect Girl
Kindle $1.99
8. Chimes at Midnight
Kindle $7.99 (accidental purchase, could've returned it, but this is next in an ongoing series for me and they seldom drop so I decided to keep it)
9. Water Under The Bridge
Kindle FREE
10. On Night's Shore
Kindle $1.99
11. The Storm and the Darkness
Kindle FREE

So far for April a total of $20.93 before tax.

Corey | 1411 comments Mom and I made a trip to Goodwill, it was her first trip out in over a month after her being hospitalized, her doctor said he didn't want her driving for a while, but she's up to driving now and she said one of the places she wanted to go was Goodwill, so we both got some good books. Andrea | 233 comments I picked up a few books at garage sales this weekend. They were:
Under the Dome, The World of Ice & Fire: The Untold History of Westeros and the Game of Thrones, This World We Live In, and All I Ever Wanted.

I also picked up two brand new hardbacks of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Mine were pretty worn so I found these and I HAD to get them at Goodwill.

Andrea I have Under The Dome on my shelf, I want to read it so bad! I'll probably read it this Winter. And I LOVE the Harry Potter books!

message 3825: by Andrea (new)

Andrea | 233 comments Corey, I think I will pick up Under the Dome this winter too. Maybe we could do a buddy read. Honestly, I have only read the first two books in the Harry Potter series, but I will get to the rest sometime. LOL My husband is a huge Harry Potter fan. We have the new paperback set but his hardback set was looking pretty worn out. I just couldn't pass up the deal.

Yeah sure, that would be awesome, I'd love to do a buddy read!

And speaking of the Harry Potter series, I have a quick funny story to tell you, my Mom tried to read the series after I told her how much I loved then and she started book #1 and she only got as far as Harry living in the Cupboard Under The Stairs, and then she gave it up, HAHA! My Mom's not into Fantasy at all, thing is I'm not either but for some reason I like Harry Potter.

Just let me know when you want to do the buddy read. I had a hard time getting through The Chamber of Secrets so I just stopped reading them. It is funny because I love the movies but The Chamber of Secrets is my least favorite one to watch. LOL.

Okay, I sure will, I normally read really thick books during the Winter, HAHA!

Yeah I hear that from a lot of people, Chamber of Secrets being the weakest in the franchise. So did you end up finishing the book or did you decide not to?

message 3829: by Andrea (new)

Andrea | 233 comments Corey, I finished the book but just didn't continue on with the series. Maybe someday I will give it another try.

Corey | 1411 comments Andrea wrote: "Corey, I finished the book but just didn't continue on with the series. Maybe someday I will give it another try."

Yeah, that's what I do. If I read a book in a series that I didn't care for I take a break from that series for a while.

You guys I really liked Under the Dome, but don't waste your time with the TV series, I watched a half hour of it and it was really bad. How can you screw up a series so much when you have all the air time? UGH!

I read the same thing Janie, that usually seems to be the case when they make a movie or miniseries based off one of King's books. Now do you know if it's still airing or if they cancelled it?

Well it is not the case with Outlander. They are doing really good with each tv series. I love the books and the shows.
