Nice list Victor although the tolkien books I could never read. Those are books I would rather just watch the movie. I am not sure why, but I just cant do fantasy/sci fi books.

Holly, I agree Walmart always has better books. I can always seem to buy one there. Yet Target has the bigger selection lol.

You're exactly right, Janie: one really can't go wrong with Dekker!
Kathryn- I'm so happy that you picked up Black!! I cannot wait to hear your thoughts on it, once you're finished.:)

So with some Christmas money, I now have The Millennium Trilogy, YAY!! I am ecstatic to finally own them, as I've been wanting to read them for the last 2 years, possibly longer!!

message 254: by GeneralTHC (new)

GeneralTHC You have got to read "Gone Girl" Janie!

message 255: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn (kcanty313) | 1870 comments Today was a GREAT day for books!!! I found the rest of the Ted Dekker series (I think it is called The Circle Series) for .50 cents a book, so now I own all four. I also found another book titled Fall On Your Knees for .50 cents. Found a few King hardbacks for a dollar to continue on with my King hardback collection. I'm tempted to start the first book tonight by Ted Dekker, but I think I am going to read a King book first, since it feels like it has been a while since I read a King. :) Starting the 2013 year off right. :)

Rachel the Book Harlot Nice finds, Kathryn. Kudos.

I originally wasn't going to make a hardback collection of King books, but my husband wants me to. We find them so cheap, and they look nice on the shelves. :)

Lucky you!
Most of my friends and family don't get why you want to own a book your only gonna read once, or twice. So they believe buying books is a waste of money. I'm the only one with this unconditional love for books. Luckily my husband gets why I love books so much - his sister work as a publisher so she also love books. Needless to say we are very good friends.

But this was my first Christmas I got books from someone other than her. ;)

message 282: by Kit★ (new)

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 345 comments I recently got a hardback copy of The Strain in the bargain bin at Walmart for $4.97 to replace my paperback copy. I actually went with my gift card to buy The Casual Vacancy and The Night Circus, since I didn't get any books that I asked for for Christmas except for one, which was Life Life by Keith Richards . But they had zero copies of either of the books I was looking for. I was mad, because I'd just been to that same Walmart not even a week before to finish up Christmas shopping, and they had a bunch of copies of both those books. Just my luck they wouldn't have 'em when I go to get them.
They did have hardbacks of Full Dark, No Stars in the bargain bin though, which was cool. I already have my copy, but I was still almost tempted to get an extra :)
Oh, then I went to the dollar store yesterday and grabbed up a book I was wanting last time I was there but didn't get, Ill Wind.
I've still got more gift cards, so I'm still on the lookout for the ones I want. I'm also going to go on a Goodwill trip or two maybe next week, hoping to score! :D

Your not the only one I espcially love thrift stores, they recently added a Second & Charles a county away from here I love the place they sell used books and about once a month they'll do a sale like buy 5 books get 5 free, and these things are like less like a dollar.

plus my hubby recently purchased for me online the other day and it just came in today

Jessie that sounds like a fabulous place. One thing I enjoy about our UBS is that they have like 3-4 racks of books out front that are on sale. I always hit those first before going inside.

message 286: by Jessie (new)

Jessie Radford (ladysdeath) I do the same Janie, that Second and Charles place has a free book bin outside it's always the first place I stop.

Rachel the Book Harlot Not sure if there are any steampunk/pnr fans in this group but I just purchased Kiss of Steel (London Steampunk, #1) by Bec McMaster Kiss of Steel by Bec McMaster. It's on sale for $.99 at Amazon. Not recommending it since I've never read this author but just an FYI to those who might be interested.
