I'm pretty sure that they need to be read in order.

Janie, I'm with you. I wish so many books weren't parts of a series. I'm glad I have an iPhone so when I go book shopping, I can look up a book and see if it is a part of a series or not. I'm more inclined these days to put a book down if it is. Trilogies I don't mind, but I like to have a series complete before I start it. Janie, I'm so excited about our book trip next week! :)
I agree Kathryn about not buying as many books if they are a part of a series, but these 2 both came of the sales rack and were just a $1 so I picked them up. I am just glad that I have GR and good friends to let me know. Then generally I will look for the first one of the series and read it before I move onto buying the rest of them. That way I don't waste the money buying them all and not liking them.
OMG Kathryn I am super excited myself! I am so glad we finally just chose a day to do it.

I wish there weren't so many series as well but in some genres- especially mystery/thriller which is my favorite- it's almost impossible to find a stand alone
Mystery/suspense is one of my faves too. I like Lisa Jackson's series because most of hers can be read as stand alones, same with Sharon Sala's I believe.

Rachel I just started to get the 'to die' books. As of right now I have Left, Chosen, Born and Afraid. I still need Ready. So I do in fact have the first 4 of the series but I have not read any of them yet. I wanted to get them read this year, but we will see about that. It does seem that it is important to read these in order though, but I am not 100% on that.
awesome deal Kathryn! I keep going back and forth as to which gaiman book to try first-I've heard good things about that one.
I just purchased 30 Days of Night the novel. This may be one of my Halloween reads. I keep saying I will purchase Joyland, but have not done so as of yet. I need to really purchase this book.
Kathryn wrote: "Veronica, I forgot I had 30 Days of Night! Halloween!!!!"30 days of Night is pretty good. Nothing like vicious vamps!
Both of you need to find deals on Rot and Ruin, and read the series. Very good for a zombie series.
I may do a quick reread of 'Salem's Lot; which always, always; creeps me out! When they take the 'crate' into the Marsten House basement ....oohhh, *shudders*

Alondra I plan on getting the last 2 books of the Rot and Ruin series this week maybe. I loved the first book, it was so good.

No Dustin, just those and A Game of Thrones. It'll take me a while to read the first two so I'll keep an eye out for the others in the meantime :)
Did you finish AGoT Janie or did you decide you'd had enough?
Michelle I abandoned the book, just not my thing. I hope that you can enjoy it. I am the odd one out I think not liking it. LOL So many people love this series, and he is a good author, just not for me.

Oh, okay. You just need A Storm of Sword and A Dance With Dragons now! That's awesome!
Nice titles, Sean! Hope you enjoy Foucault's Pendulum--it's quite the historical put-on from a master of them. I really enjoyed it.

Lisa, I know you were asking Veronica, but I read Joyland in June. I really enjoyed it! It's a nice coming of age tale.
My Easton Press copy of Oliver Twist came in the mail today and I also bought a couple of Kurt Vonnegut books that were on sale for my Kindle.
