,
Thanks for the reminders Rachel. I remembered The Innocent and had forgotten Still life with Crows. I also have the Passage. Sure wish I could find a paperback, ugh, maybe amazon.

Rachel- I cannot rave nearly enough about the sheer brilliance of King's On Writing, or adequately describe my passion for it. It's inspired me deeply. I've read it three times (so far,) and I walk away with something different every time.

I think amazon is your best bet, so you're not paying too much money... i am el cheapo now. I remember paying $20+ for a book and thinking i was getting a deal; now I get angry paying $10.

Thank you, Rachel. I hope it brings you much pleasure, when you get to it.
Yay ordered The Passage in paperback through a 3rd party through Amazon and got it for $1.94. How awesome is that. Now I can take the hardback and sell it back to the book store once the pb arrives. Makes me happy.
Janie. Yes it is sadly the only major bookshop that the UK has now. Normally it has three floor a coffee shop and is a place to lose yourself for hours.
Sam I love places like that. We have a place called Recycled Books and it is in an old Opera House. It has 3 floors of Books and yes I could lose myself in there for hours as well.

That stinks Michelle. I could not imagine not having a place to get books. Amazon would certainly get a lot of my business.

That's awful couldn't imagine not having a book shop. In the UK a lot of out supermarkets have books sections too which are very competitive. However, there is nothing like having a shop just for books.
I whole heartedly agree with that Sam. Although it is nice to have grocers that sell books, book stores will always be best!
Yeah, I order frim Amazon like crazy! So much so that I'm on a first-name basis with the mail carrier! ;)
I might have to hit up a Goodwill today, my horoscope in the newspaper said 'purchase something that makes you feel good' so I might do just that, lol :D

Wow guys, I haven't been reading nearly as much as most of you guys have been. I just finished The Shining earlier this week. I liked it but I think I'm ready for a change of pace, most of what I've read recently has been horror. It goes without saying I'll be reading Dr. Sleep when it comes out later in September.
I went on Amazon and did a search for best of 2013 and ran across this book called The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker. It reads like a fairytale set in the beginning of the 1900's. The description labeled it as historical fantasy. It seems interesting, and it's available at my library on base, so I'll give it a go.
Tim, I've been wondering if The Golem and the Jinni is any good. Will keep an eye out for your review! :)
Tim I am so ready Dr. Sleep! muhahaha, I just hope that I am totally appeased by it. I would hate to be disappointed. I totally understand you wanting a change of pace I get like that too. So I myself have bought 2 books lately that really are not what I would normally purchase and those are Soul of the Fire, and Drums of Autumn. They sound interesting and were both on the sales rack so I thought why not.
I hope you enjoy The Golem and the Jinni. I must be honest I have not heard of it, but would be interested to know what you think. So enjoy!

Yea thanks Cassie, I noticed that when I got home from the UBS. I always tend to look books up here after I buy. LOL You can't always get all the info from the book itself. GR is a God Send!
They do sound good. Anything that has a portal of some kind involved, or time traveling intrigues me, but the historical part of it, I don't know lol. I don't generally read those but from the ones I have seen, and it really is a long series, they had some great ratings, so we will see I guess. I will have to go back to the UBS next week and see if I can't coral up the rest of them. The one I got was out on the sales rack for $1. After reading the synopsis I could not pass it up. Then to find out about the series, aiye aiye aiye. LOL

GR is a God Send!"Soul of the Fire is part of a terrific series, as well, Janie. I have not read the entire series (up to book 7 or 8, I think,) but I loved what I read, and Terry Goodkind's a good writer, IMO.
It seems to me that everything has to be a series now Dustin. I really just like to be able to read a single stand alone book. Trilogies are fine, but when they go and go it starts to get tiresome. This is why I break them up when I start a new one, rather than cramming them all in at once. So does this series also have to be read in order? Or can they be read stand alone?
