Haha I am not picky about the hardbacks, as long as they are cheap and in good condition! Mark did say something about if I ever found a rare copy that is signed or a limited edition of my favorite King, then he would let me buy it, but I guess I am just cheap in that respect, and would probably never take him up on the offer. Haha, unless...............;)

I'd say take him up in his offer. You could always turn around and sell it for huge. If it is a rare book it will go for a lot. I have a paperback copy of one of Deaver's first books that was only in paperback and is now out of print. I lucked into a copy for 20$ and it is going for over 300$ on Amazon. It is crazy what collectors will pay for books. I like to think of myself as a collector, but I am a bargain collector, I try to find it cheaply in good condition.
Dang!!!!!!! It is pretty crazy what book collectors will pay for some books. But being a book lover myself, I kind of get it, especially if it was my favorite book. :)
The only book that I really want that will cost some mula is King's single edition of Rage. I don't care at all for hardback. They do look great on the shelves, but if you are like me and can't afford the awesome all wood books cases then the shelves get warped from the weight and end up looking horrible. I have had to replace some of mine because of having my moms books on the shelves.
You are right about the shelves, even the wood pulp ones you can buy at stores still warp over time. When we get a house I am going to build my own shelves so that doesn't happen. I would love to one day have a library room with floor to ceiling book shelves and my HB are going to look great on those.
I am sure they will Chris! I am going to be getting the paint tomorrow for my library and I am so excited to get it done. I will be sure to get pictures when we are finished.
That sounds like a fun project Janie. I look forward to the day my wife and I finally get a house. Then I can do those fun wood working projects I want to do like build a library. I love doing home maintenance work. I am a big fan of power tools as well (insert manly grunts here). I also learned how to do stained glass windows from my dad and I would love to pick that up again, I just need the space. I look forwards to seeing your pictures of the final product. Good luck and I hope you have fun.
You know what we found the other day at home depot that I thought was marvelous? These 'whole window' decals that turn your window into stained glass. They were awesome! I wonder how well they work?
I would think they would work well if you could get the bubbles out perfectly. That is a neat idea, I still like all the work of putting a window together. It is an expensive hobby, but I love puzzles and making each piece fit to make my picture, and picking out the right glass is so much fun.
My husband is an excellent wood worker, so I am glad to hear you do/like woodwork, too, Chris. He built us two twelve foot red oak book cases, our bed, a twelve foot pantry, our fish tank stand for our 75 gallon fish tank, cutting boards, a cedar strip canoe, we are in the process of building two kayaks, and some other stuff. Still waiting in my coffee tables, though.....Got a little off topic, but the reason he wants the hardback collection is because he wants his bookcases to look nice with the display of the hardbacks. He read Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles years ago and loved them, and found the entire set for really cheap, so he bought them for the bookcases. Oy.......
That's incredible, sounds like he is very talented with his woodworking. That is a real impressive list of stuff. I think I got us all off topic a bit. Oh well, I did really enjoyed the conversation.
Yea I understand Chris the craft makes it more worthwhile. My hub loves to make stuff too. He made a set of lamps in high school and we have them today in our bedroom. Our problem is him having the time to do it. There are so many things we wanna do.
Yeah, finding the time is hard sometimes because wood working takes a lot of time and precision. Also planning out what you are going to build, how, and all of the extra stuff. Sometimes it takes a while to build stuff..... Trust me.....some husband of mine said he was going to build me the coffee tables I want a year ago now....I still don't have tables.....hahahahaha
LOL Kathryn! I think our biggest project was a bedroom set for our oldest daughter. She was in high school at the time and we made her a, I guess you call a 'desk set' It had a desk, and a TV stand, plus she played keyboard in school so we added a keyboard table to it and 2 wall shelves as well with that decorative trim on it. It turned out real nice. She also got a new bed and comforter it was for her birthday. It was fun, but took a lot of time.
Lol, that's funny Kathryn, but I can see how easy it is to get busy with other things. There are a lot of things I want to do but I just don't find the time. Janie that is really cool that you still have the lamps and use them. I still have my old projects, we just don't use any of my stuff.
I think it is cool to be able to keep that stuff. They are real nice too, they are wood with glass fronts. Of course the shades have been changed because they don't last as long.
How cool, I never did anything with glass in it. I have wooden boxes and a puzzle with other projects from school. My dad and I did a really intricate cutting board together for a Father's Day woodcraft class. It was a few years ago, I had just found out my wife was pregnant with Conner so my dad took me for my "first Father's Day" anyway, it turned out so nice we don't even use them they just sit out and look pretty.
ok so here we go...hehe...my new books for the day. Wicked 2: Legacy & Spellbound, so now that trilogy is finished. Also got a new author(s) today, Preston & Child. They are mystery/thriller and I got The Cabinet of Curiosities, Still Life With Crows, & Brimstone. So those all sounded very good. I also got The Empty Chair, by Deaver and The Book of Spirits, by James Reese. I read his Book of Shadows and it was very good. So I just happened across this one. They did not have anymore Penn Cage novels by Iles. So I still need book 2.
Well you know how I feel about Deaver, but The Empty chair was very good and loaded with twists and turns. I hope you enjoy it. Holly said Brimstone was really good and I have it on my toread list but haven't gotten to it yet. Sounds like a great haul there.
Thanks Chris, yea I am looking forward to These new Authors. Brimstone sounded really good. They have a whole line of books with FBI Agent Pendergast.
I got the Deaver book for a dollar off the dollar rack. So that is always good.

That is awesome about the Deaver book. I have read the first Pendergast book Relic and wasn't all that impressed. I did like the character Pendergast so I do plan on reading this one at least. Maybe a buddy read on that one as well??? Let me know when you plan on reading it and I will see if I can squeeze it in. Right now I am really trying to focus on the two I'm reading. I've either been to tired or they just haven't been all that interesting.

I've heard Still Life With Crows is great too. deaver is yet another author I hope to try one of these days- I really need to read faster lol
Oh Awesome Rachel, thanks for letting me know. I think there are like 15 of the Pendergast novels. I hope to get the whole collection.
you probably already know this but just in case- The Cabinet of Curiosities is book 3- it can be read as a standalone but if you want to read them in order Relic is the first pendergast book. I've only read #3 but i hope to read more of the series. according to the authors some can be read as standalones and some need to be read in order.
Yea Rachel, all three of the ones I got are later in the series. But they are not continuing stories so that is awesome. I can read any of them that I want to without breaking up a series.

I hope everyone enjoys them!:)
Me too Dustin, I just don't know when I will get to them. Hopefully some time this year, but we will see.

BTW, a really good standalone from Douglas Preston I really liked is Blasphemy.
I loved let's pretend it never happened. Although I listened to it and Jenny Lawson reads it. It made that book even funnier. Hope you like it.
Janie wrote: "Me too Dustin, I just don't know when I will get to them. Hopefully some time this year, but we will see."I have no idea when I'll get to them, either, Janie.

Tonight we happened to go to Dollar general after the park to pick up a couple of things and Lo and Behold there is a Mitch Albom book, no not The Time Keeper, but one that seems just as good. I got For One More Day, for $3. So I had to pick it up.

Cool Janie! I've read all the Odd Thomas novels besides Odd Interlude 3 and the new one, Deeply Odd (which I just got). Technically, Odd Interlude isn't one of the novels but I don't care what anyone says, I had questions when I read Odd Apocalypse I wouldn't of had had I read it first; it's a must read for fans of the series.
I have not read a single one of them yet LOL. But I have them. Thanks for the tip on Odd interlude books. Nice to know.

Oh WOW, Janie!! I hadn't realized that you received so many from your birthday!!:) AWESOME!!
What a haul Janie. Sounds like you had a lot of fun shopping. Glad you had a great birthday. There is also nothing wrong with buying books because the covers are cool. I have done it before, and I am sure a lot of others have as well. I would also be excited to reorganize my book shelves to make space for all those new books. Have fun.
