I've found out the hard way not to put too much into goodreads rating's. Now I only take the rating into account when it's been rated many thousands of times. Even then I find a lot of the time books I've liked (some award winners) aren't rated that high. Then there are books I didn't like at all that are rated high (usually very few ratings though).
I agree Chuck, however, I am more likely to read a book that I normally wouldn't if the majority of my Goodreads friends rated it highly. I tend to have very similar tastes to my friends here so I will pay attention to those.

There's only a handful of people I'll take recommendations from these days and those are generally the people I match up with the best using the goodreads comparison tools.

So what do you have on your list?
Lincoln by David Herbert DonaldMary: Mrs. A. Lincoln by Janis Cooke Newman
Writing and Selling Your Mystery Novel by Hallie Ephron
Washington by Ron Chernow
Write Great Fiction: Plot & Structure by James Scott Bell
Thank you. Yes, he really is. After reading My Thoughts Be Bloody, I'd really like to know more about him and his wife. I can't wait to see the movie as well.
Just ordered some books in series, that i must finish. Dead Man's Song, The Dragon Factory and The Death Cure. I am so ready; all of these series are excellent! :D
I love amazon gift cards, but I must admit, I rarely buy books with them. I always buy more expensive stuff that I wouldn't usually buy. So I went to Barnes and Noble to brows there bargain section. Found a few books I thought about getting but didn't really feel like spending the money. I must be sick because this is so unlike me. I guess even though I found some interesting titles, nothing jumped out at me as a must have now.
Aw, you're most welcome, Cassie.:)Sometimes you can find great deals in the bargain section, Chris. We don't have a B&N around here, but there is a Hastings, and they have a decent sized bargain selection, along with used books throughout the other sections.
Well there are no used book stores around me anymore, they have all gone out of business. Barnes and Noble is all I have and in the past I have found amazing finds. Some even Hardcover first editions of my favorite authors for cheap. this time around, nothing stood out as amazing. I almost felt what they had I'd rather get from the library than spend 6$ on a hard cover. I wonder if I am becoming more practical as I get older. Bummer.
Could be Chris. I would have passed up the hard covers myself but most assuredly not paperbacks. LOL I am a book fiend and I dont think I will ever get the feeling of wanting to just borrow rather than buy. But I do fortunately have a great UBS locally and that really does make a difference. I rarely buy from B&N.

Well I am crazy and I have to have the Hard covers of my favorite authors. For me there is nothing better than a first edition hardback. I have shelves full of them and they look great. I guess since we are being more cost conscious I buy less books. Maybe one day that will change again. I tend towards more ebooks these days because the are cheaper, or the library.
Yea Chris I hear you on the costs, could be why I dont shop B&N lol. I am thankful I have a UBS though. And yea a lot of people do prefer the hardbacks. IDK I just never have grown accustom to that. I may one of the weird ones. LOL
You can also shop through Amazon through the used books and maybe find some of the great hard covers too Chris.

No worries Janie, we all love books here and that makes us weird to so many others. I do love shopping at B&N. I used to work there for several years and absolutely loved that job, just had to find one that allowed me to make more money. I love the smell of bookstores, and when I buy a new hard cover, I love the sound of the spin as you open it for the first time. The downside of course, is when I fall asleep lying on my back holding a hard cover, it hurts more when it hits me in the face. The Kindle kind of hurts too, but at least I don't risk paper cuts, LOL.
ROFL I'll bet it does hurt Chris! Wow to work at the book store would be great. I keep saying I am gonna work at the UBS lol.
I also love the smell of new books, and the sound of breaking open the spine, the turn of a page, etc.. is most heavenly!
i just called in my order ut will have to wait about a week before they all come in :Oi ordered:
Heartsick
The Voice of the Night
Five Quarters of the Orange
The Memory of Water
Cards on the Table
and
The Silver Linings Playbook

Yep I guess so. I dont think he really knows what he is getting into though. I am a little scared by this attempt of reading them since it is fantasy and I am NOT a fantasy buff at all.
