Just finished reading
Belshazzar's Daughter by Barbara Nadel, an enjoyable murder mystery set in Turkey.https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Just finished reading
Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke. This brings me to 23 out of 41 books read for the Popsugar Challenge! I'm over halfway there!https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

The Talisman Ring by Georgette Heyerhttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

First Activation by Darren Wearmouth and Marcus Wearmouth.I really enjoyed it. It starts like a standard zombie apocalypse. But there's a twist! No zombies. Definitely worth a peek!

Contact by Carl Saganhttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Finished reading
Little Black Lies by Sharon Bolton last night -- finally! I really wanted to enjoy this more than I did. For some reason, it just never really grabbed me.https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Just finished listening to Emma Thompson's incredible performance of The Turn of the Screw by Henry James. Emma really outdid any other narration of this. She kept the tension in this story going up and up. Turn of the Screw is one of those stories that I adore, being a huge fan of gothic fiction. However, Mr James is very wordy and can nearly lose you.

The Second Golden Age of Science Fiction Megapack #2 -- Mark CliftonI really enjoyed this. The stories range from light and funny (heavy on the irony) to larger narratives about the future of Man.

I just finished reading
Leaving Time by Jodi Picoulthttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Wow. This book is incredible and I did not see the twist at the end coming. But be warned this is at the least a 6 kleenex cry at the end.
It's been a long time since I read a book where I wanted to go back to page 1 and start over. But I really would like to do that with this one.
Just finished reading
Illuminae by Amie Kaufman, part of the Goodreads Choice Awards challenge.Really enjoyed it. Great adventure. But the format can be annoying for someone with impaired eyesight. I wonder if it would've been better as an audio without all the visual tidbits they give you in the book.

Just finished listening to the
The Guns of August by Barbara W. Tuchman. An incredible book about the lead up and first month of World War I. So many mistakes were made that led not just to deaths of this war, but also the mistakes in the peace (not covered here) led to death in World War II as well as the Balkan wars and the Middle East. A lot can be laid at the feet of the arrogant leaders in August 1914.https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Just finished reading my interlibrary loan
A Heritage of Stars by the amazing Clifford D. Simak. How I managed to make the half-century mark without being exposed to this author, I can't imagine. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
RIP Muhammud Ali

Quarter Share by Nathan Lowell. It's a fun read taking place in the trading routes of the universe.https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Just finished listening to
A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess. This audiobook was very enjoyable as read by actor Tom Hollander. Very intense.https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Finished listening to
Maybe This Time by Jennifer Crusie yesterday. A romantic ghost story inspired by Henry James' classic novella The Turn of the Screw.https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I'm reading The Curse of Jacob Tracy.https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
It's a supernatural fantasy Western set in 1880. Not too far into it, but so far so good. The characters are well-written and I like the writing style. It's the first in a series about a ghost hunter.
I finished
Working Stiff by Annelise Ryan yesterday. An excellent debut cozy, though I am not sure it qualifies as a pure cozy since it has some elements you don't normally see there.https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Finished reading
The Importance of Being Alice by Katie MacAlister yesterday. This is a fun light hearted, funny, and sexy romance! The hero is an author of spy thrillers, the profits of which he uses to try and prop up his huge family and falling down English castle.

Who Goes There? by John W. Campbell Jr. I'm so glad I finally listened to this. The 1951 film is one of my favorite films of all time!

I don't always read genre fiction, so I usually just put what I'm reading in my Feed. I do read your posts here, though.

The Third Rule by Andrew Barrett last night. It's a real page-turner! I would read nearly 100 pages at a sitting it's just that good. I highly recommend it to those who like crime/political thrillers.

So...one of my first posts here, but I thought I'd share the few classics that are currently on my desk:Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said
Othello
The Republic
It's a bit of an odd list, but they all tie together in a way. Some of my recent reads referenced Othello and PKD made a few comments on theophany, philosophy, and realities in VALIS, which I found interesting. Anyway...that's what is on my desk!
