Leonie (leo23) This sounds like a good way for me to read some books that have been on my TBR list for a long time.

Magic number = 4
Bonus task = read a book from a series

1. Rolled 1 + 3 = 3
# 3 The Jane Austen Book Club

2. Rolled 2 + 5 = 7
# 10 Lopsided: How Having Breast Cancer Can Be Really Distracting

3. Rolled 3 + 4 = 7
# 17 Ice Station

4. Rolled 1 + 5 = 6
# 23 Mother's Ruin

5. Rolled 4 + 2 = 6
# 29 Breakfast at Tiffany's

6. Rolled 2 + 6 = 8
# 37 A Widow for One Year

That's enough planning for now but what a diverse range of books I have ahead of me :)

@ Tien:
I still need an answer to my question about double-doubles in message #50. Do we stop at two rolls, or keep going?

Sorry, Susan, totally missed it! Keep rolling :-)

LynnB | 1769 comments I'm about half-finished with earlier roll which was #22 (John Adams), so I want to be sure I have my next book available.

Magic Number is 5: read absolutely oldest book on TBR.

Rolled 6+2=8
22+8=30

#30 - The Little Book by Selden
It's over 400 pages, though, so it's not so "little" :)

Kim I am really excited about this challenge. I think it will be fun and make me read some of my older books.

Magic Number: 7
Bonus Task: Read a book from my read next shelf

Roll 1+3 = 4
# 4 - The Great Hunt substituting The Eye of the World in.

I got a really big book for my first one! Plus, the next eleven on my to read list are from the same series, so I might have a slow start, LOL!!!

Yay, great to have you taking up this challenge with us, Kim :)

It might be a big book to start with but I remembered enjoying that book years ago so it might not be that slow ;)

My book isn't that big, Kim, and I still am having a slow start. That is one of the things I like about this challenge. It is not timed, but based on how many books you have on your TBR. :)

message 60: by Kim (last edited Jan 05, 2013 11:02AM) (new)

Kim I haven't started my book, so I am going to make a change. Instead of using my TBR list, which is over 1000 books long, I am going to use my own-elibrary TBR list. That way I can read from books that I already own or have access at my elibrary and don't have to worry about buying any books.

Rolled 5
#5 - Inheritance replaced with Eragon by Christopher Paolini

We are just editing our posts as we go. I think Tien is setting up a link in Post #2 for everyone so that they can just click on their name and that will take them to the post that they are updating. That will make it easier to find your post back.

OK...made it through my husband's sx but my brain is obviously missing a few synapses.

I had downloaded Roses to read as book #2 and The Postmistress for book #3. And, I had started listening to The Postmistress, which I am really enjoying.

But when I reviewed the other ebooks that I have on my computer and saw The Roses, I thought it was there only because of my LOST list and so made the choice to send it back to the library.

Now I find that it was on my Timber list and my SRC task list. Bummer! Now I have to try to check it out again!

I will complete this game - evne though It might be 2020 when I do! LOL

Bea, I find it really hard to reconcile books between games too LOL You're not alone

And since my TBR on GR is soooo very long, it might take me a lifetime before I actually finish this game? If it ever finishes *grimace* after it's competing with other games that's got deadlines!

I went back to the library and found I am #9 on the wait list for Roses. So it may be awhile before I get it again.

maybe I can wish that others find they do not need it.....(crossing fingers and squinting REAL hard)

I ended up being 9/9 on the waiting list for Roses after accidently returning it to the ebook library. But, good news!, I was able to find it in my local library, so...back on track!

I find that without an end date or a goal, I'm barely moving through Mt TBR so... I've created Challenge Widget for the year!

I'm aiming to read off 120 books of my TBR (that might be wishful thinking but I'll be happy with 80% completion LOL).

I know, ones I've read in 2012 didn't count either but I was thinking of starting the count this year so we have an annual sort of goal (I'm rather short sighted -long sighted goals don't work well with me!)

Well, hopefully you get to read the new books you added on too! It's looking impossible to me :( This is going to be a 3 years project at least! But I'm taking it a year at a time ha ha ha

message 75: by Amy (new)

Amy | 2241 comments Are we still rolling dice for this task or merely keeping track of what we read off of our TBR for the year? I ask because I read two for Nellie Bly and counted them before remembering that they were way down on my TBR in numbers I had yet to reach.

I think we're still rolling dice -- at least I am :) If they come off my TBR pile and they weren't rolled, then I just consider it my good luck to have lessened the list on the TBRs.

message 77: by Tien (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) | 9032 comments Mod
Yes, we are still rolling dice, Amy.

I am still reading books off my TBR whether they have come up in this challenge or not. This challenge, at least, will get me to read books I added on my shelf years ago and have mostly forgotten & possibly haven't been able to incorporate into other challenges.

IRO books you're read that were way down in your TBR that you've not reached in this challenge - for the purpose of this challenge, just pretend that they no longer exist (well, they don't exist on your mt TBR anymore anyway!) by the time you read down to those numbers.

I hope we're making sense...

message 78: by Amy (new)

Amy | 2241 comments Okay. I'll go back to my post and do a lot of rolls so I can plan ahead.

I just discovered something frustrating about the widget. You have to specify what shelf the books are from in order for them to count. I picked "to-read". However, once I've read a book and moved it from "to-read" to "read," it disappears from the list and doesn't get counted.

I figure I have to make a Mt-TBR" shelf and duplicate everything on my "to-read" shelf to make it work. Has anyone found an easier way to make the widget work?

message 80: by LynnB (new)

LynnB | 1769 comments Susan wrote: "I just discovered something frustrating about the widget. You have to specify what shelf the books are from in order for them to count. I picked "to-read". However, once I've read a book and moved ..."

Nope. I also have a "Mt TBR" shelf.

message 81: by Tien (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) | 9032 comments Mod
Unfortunately, with the widget, you are required to specify as shelf that is not exclusive to count.

Your 'read', 'currently reading' & 'to-read' shelves are exclusive shelves. That means, that a particular book can only be on one of these shelves. So, you can't have a book on both 'read' & 'to-read' shelves (as you can see, that makes no sense).

Susan, I wouldn't duplicate all of your books from 'to-read' to your Mt-TBR shelf as not all of them will be for this challenge (we are rolling dice and basically doing a skip, hop, and jump through your 'to-read' shelf).

What I did while I was rolling dice & planning reads was staying on the 'to-read' shelf and adding each book as it comes up onto the 'moving-mountains' shelf. When you're on the 'to-read' shelf, it shows you what shelves each book is on and there is a little 'edit' link which allows you to add the book quickly onto another shelf.

Hope that makes sense... (it's Monday morning and I'm only halfway through my coffee)

Susan - which widget are you talking about?

Also - I quit using my "to-read" shelf a long time ago. I actually have several exclusive shelves that I have set up, but most important, and one I am using for this challenge, is my "to read mine" shelf. I find the books by using the dice throws and picking them from that shelf. After I have picked them, though, I put them on a separate shelf that is not an exclusive shelf that only shows what I have actually read for the challenge. Then I link that shelf to my challenge widget and it keeps count for me.

Is that what you are trying to do?

So should I just roll again, or go to the new number 4 because of the mess up?

Did you actually change the numbering position of your books? ie. you manually input a number of the position for your TBR book?
