That's a good point. But I think the author did that on purpose. I know for sure that she did that on purpose with Will and Jace because they are related, so they both have that sarcastic personality that runs in the family. I'm not sure if she meant to do that with the other characters though, but I would assume so. I could understand why it bothers you though. :)I love both of these series very much.
I agree with Rachel, Will and Jace are both Herondale. The other characters aren't even similar :)
I can see it in Will and Jace too but I think Tessa and Clary are very different. Tessa is more quiet and calm and likes books and thinks things through. Clary kinda reminds me of a tornado, she never things about the things she is going to do before she does them and she is sassy. Simon, for me, has always been nerdy and slightly annoying and a little bit selfish. Jem is also selfish in a way but I also see him a lot differently than Simon. Jem is calm and comfortable with himself. He may not like his addiction but he has accepted it and his fate. Simon on the other hand can't seem to accept that he is a vampire or any different. He tries to deny the truth to himself. Jessamine is a bitch who is extremely unhappy with her life. Isabelle is a kick ass girl who isn't willing to hide the fact that she can kick ass while Jessamine is ashamed of that fact. That's what I see anyway.
I agree that Jace and Will are the same, and if you remember even magnus said they were similar. but i agree its coz their related. i dont think jem is at alllike simon. for one thing, hes dying and desperately in love w tessa, wheras simon is immortal and is not in love w clary, who in this case corresponds to tessa at all. also, jem and will are closer than brothers, definitely no the case w simon and jace.tessa and clary are opposites. they are nothing alike! the only similar thing is that they both have an evil brother. ditto w jessamine and isbel. jessamine wants to get out of the shadowhunter world asap and ends up betraying them because of it. isabel would never betray them and also she is far more caring than jessamine, although she is a bit uptight.
i also think that jem is more like alec.
btw, in cp, will and cecily are the only two herondale shadowhunters, so who do you think jace is descended from - will or cecily.
also does anyone think tessa is still alive in the mortal instruments? I only ask coz shes meant to be a warlock and because clarys mum said that a female warlock helped batise her. also anyone think brother zachariah is will herondale? the points in favour are:1. he knows the herondales really well
2. he is more in touch with his feelings than the other silent brothers
3. we dont no his middle name, maybe its zachariah
4. he is sympathetic to jace

And there are a few people (myself including) who believe Will is a silent brother. But as many point out, how would his blood line continue if he became a SB? It can't through Cecily unless she gets prego without getting married.

I read the Clockwork Angel and thought it would probably be great if I am to read the Mortal Instrument series as well. Then talking about the characters being the same, I would put that series away, cuz I don't want to feel like reading the same thing over again. It would be just not worthwhile.

The only real characters that are would be Jace and Will and the only reason is because it is a way to show their related.
The series is worth reading, it's still exteremly good. The similarities end at Jace and Will, there is no real love triangle, there is no person dying, there is a different plot. It's still a good book.

I did enjoy TID more than TMI but I still liked both and thought they were worth reading and then re-reading a few times.

Anyone agree with me?"I very much agree with you. Women were treated as property and when married they were sold to the other man and took his name and were then his property. It's total BS. Luckily that isn't necessarily the case anymore. Fathers do still hand their daughters over to the groom in the ceremony though to signify the giving away of the daughter. Because she's property to be given and taken. I think the thing to remember though is that most fathers don't see it that way when they hand their daughters over, they see it as their daughter growing up and getting married and are probably very happy. The ceremony itself may signify ownership of the woman but I think what matters most is the attitudes of the people involved. Or you could just make your own ceremony and eliminate the ownership parts. Sorry, rambling.
Will and Jace are obviously alike because they are related..YAY! will has kids!Jem and Simon are nothing alike. Yes simon loved clary, but got over her, kinda, after CoA, as in with Jem its the opposite, at first he didnt love her, or not int hat way anyway, and later he did. and he acted a lot on those feeling (the ring) unlike Simon
Tessa and Clary are not alike to me either. Tessa doesnt act like she does, she comes up with a plan and doesnt speak when not wanted too. Clary doesnt think, she just does wat she gotta do and doesnt really think before speaking.
Jessamine and Isabelle are NOTHING alike!! I wish they could meet just to intimidate that stupid Jessamine! Isabelle is a Shadowhunter and is proud of that, she loves that she can kick ass and be totally awesome. Jessamine is just a plain simple bitch but Isabelle is an intimidating girl that shouldnt be messed with. Jessamine hates being a shadowhunter and would do anything to get away
As far as the Will and a Silent Brother thing is involved, i think that it is actually Jem who is the Silent Brother. Maybe he found out about will and Tessa and decided to let them be happy. He also knew he was dying soon so he became a SB to push up his life a little longer, because SB arent immortal but they can push their lifespans up. Also, Brother Zachariah said that he only ever loved two people, that could be Will and Tessa, as that Will loves Tessa, Jem, Cecily, etc... so i think Jem is Brother Zachariah. But we all know how Cassandra Clare is, you suspect one thing and Bam, something completely different happens
I also want to bring up (yeah, i talk/write a lot, i know, lol) that both Will and Jem have kids. So.... that means that Tessa does have kids, the question is, with which one? (i personally hope its will!!) Will Herondale has kids because Jace is alive, but Jem also have kids because in the new series Cassandra Clare might start, the main character is named Emma CARSTAIRS!! noo! I dont want Jem to have kids because that means it might be with Tessa, and I'll be sad if that happens... She doesnt even LOVE HIM!!!

Jem may not have children, he does have an uncle from his fathers side which would pass on the name Carstairs.
I think it has to be one of them being a SIlent brother. Unless it's one of the Lightwoods 0_o that would be a shock.

WIll and Jace seem similer but not exactly the same, Clary and Tessa don't seem that alike. Jem and Simon are not at all alike. And Isabelle and Jessamine are DEF not the same.
Well Will and Jace are very similiar each having problems with "fully" loving. One thinks he cursed the other dosent think hes good enough. Jem and Simon are kinda of the same but Simon is not as... i dont know? I love Jem but im still kinda sad that Tessas marrying him. Tessa and Clary are not that much in like but they both love to save the one they love and get introuble for it.

Nope, theyre just not coming up in the discussion. also tessa does love JEm thats why shes so torn. She loves Jem and Will and in the same way, like when simon loved maya and isabelle. also does anyone else think that either gabriel or gideon will end up with cecily

I think Gideon will go with Sophie. There's an unidenitfied snippit page on the TMI website that has a quote saying "You are the last of the Lightwoods." My friend and i sooo hope that means Gideon gets "disowned" because he loves Sophie and Gabriel is all that is left.

They are from any book and the books that are already released have been identified. There are some that are obviously CP and some that are obviously CoHF(: some you read them and you'll be like WHERE DO YOU BELONG?!
They are similar, yes.They are not completely the same, at least to me. Tessa is more bold than Clary, Will is far more "sweet" than Jace, Jem is more subtle and soft compared to Simon and Isabelle is a strong character who loves what she does while Jessamine would love nothing more than to be far away from where she is.
