Jim | 6484 comments Welcome to TC Mayra.

Jim is always so welcoming.

(I have no idea who is new or old, so I just pretend that I know everyone.)

Finger? Or toe?

The "new" Jim is only at 275. Get crackin', Mister!

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I loved the Elenium!

Jim | 6484 comments Me too Jackie!

What is an Elenium?

In my experience, cat's don't respond well to punishment.

Yeah, her "time out" didn't really work...she looked at me like I'd lost my mind, turned away, and flicked her tail in irritation as she stalked off in that haughty way cats have.

message 4460: by [deleted user] (new)

Still working on it...it's getting better.

Cat's what?"

I can't believe I did that. In the presence of the apostrophe queen, no less.

message 4462: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Isn't that a poem? In the Presence of The Apostrophe Queen?

message 4463: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments i still am going to say "punishing the kitty" every chance i get

message 4464: by [deleted user] (new)

I wanna know what the kitty did to get punished in the first place?

That just sounds wrong Kev.

Kitty draped herself across the desk and was playing with the mouse cord.

message 4467: by [deleted user] (last edited Sep 29, 2010 07:49AM) (new)

Get a cordless mouse. Problem solved.

Our baby kitty attacks the cursor on the screen all day while my husband attempts to work from home. *snicker* She thinks it's a bug.

message 4468: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments I have a corded mouse too, since the corded kind can plug into my keyboard, but the non-corded needs a USB, and I have limited ports.

message 4469: by Félix (last edited Sep 29, 2010 08:39AM) (new)

Félix (habitseven) Any port in a storm, I always say.

Well ... not always.

message 4470: by Jim (new)

Jim | 6484 comments I can vouch for that, he actually walks down the street saying it :)

message 4471: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I say it early and often every damned day.

message 4472: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Do y'all know the origin of the 'port in a storm' phrase?

message 4473: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Enlighten us, pleez ....

message 4474: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments A friend doing her master's in english literature came across this - this isn't the full quote, but you get the point.

It was going by the right door, and knocking desperately at the wrong one. ‥I told him of it: ‘Pooh,’ says he ‘my dear, any port in a storm.’
[1749 J. Cleland Memoirs of Woman of Pleasure II. 133]

message 4475: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Oh.

message 4476: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11852 comments That's a sex thing, right? It's not just my dirty mind interpreting it that way?

message 4477: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I don't really like port. It tastes like kerosene to me.

message 4478: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11852 comments I can't stop giggling because that seemed like the absolutely perfect usage of the word, "pooh."

message 4479: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Pretty smutty for the 18th century, no?

message 4480: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Real smut is timeless.

message 4481: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Right now I'm sitting in the terminal in Tucson waiting for my flight home. Groups of F-16 fighters are taking off every few minutes, making quite a racket.

I've always thought the 18th century was the smuttiest.

ms.petra (mspetra) went to see Frank Warren and his PostSecret presentation. It was very moving.

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments FML.

So I left for a roadtrip this afternoon after work (6ish) and made it about an hour and a half away before one of my tires started acting wonky. So I turned around and headed back home. I'll be starting over again in the morning, possibly with a new tire.

My baby sister's birthday (the big 3-0) needs celebrating, and I don't intend to miss an iota of the celebration festivities.

On the bright side, I'll get to go to sleep earlier than I thought I would. :)

Right now I'm starting to feel better after a 24 hour bout with the stomach flu. I think both Leah and Marla are now coming down with it.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Yuck, I'm sorry, Sally. That's no fun for any of you. I'm glad you're starting to feel better.
I send you virtual ginger ale....

I had chicken noodle soup for dinner and felt slightly better. This constant state of nausea is horrible.

ms.petra (mspetra) maybe your pregnant...

message 4496: by Jim (new)

Jim | 6484 comments Contemplating what? We have neighbors that we don't know real well, but will always talk to when we see them, and we knew their kids as they grew up. They have two kids that are both older than ours by a couple of years. We learned Saturday evening that their oldest died of a drug overdose either Friday or Saturday. One of the nicest kids to meet, had the brains to get into the UW, and apparently proceeded to get caught up with the wrong crowd almost immediately. I knew that he had been in rehab a couple years ago, but had heard good things since. Just contemplating what.

message 4497: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11852 comments Sorry to hear about your neighbor's kid. I hope the family gets through it.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Oh, Jim, I'm sorry. :(

I'm at work, ordering books and noticing that it's lunch time. Time to toast my bagel...

message 4499: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Sad story, Jim.

I'm watching TV with a 2-year-old.
