welcome home larry. sit down, stay a while

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Yay, Larry! I get to home now, too!

Sarah - I'm in "South San Francisco" - Bernal Heights. By car it is near Candlestick Park - we can see it clearly from the mountainous park right near Shannon's home. It is about a 25 minute bus/BART ride to downtown.

message 405: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Near Colma, Sally? The place where people are dying to get into?

message 406: by Sally, la reina (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
I don't know what that is, Larry!

message 407: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) It's this (right near where you are):

Crazy! Thanks for the informative link! I just read that aloud to Sweeter. We were just talking today about how there seems to be a dearth of cemeteries - now we know why!

message 409: by Félix (last edited Mar 13, 2009 07:51PM) (new)

Félix (habitseven) Yup. That's why.

So, I'm on the far end of the mission district, apparently only 2 BART stops away from Colma! I hear they have a cool bowling alley.

I'm getting geeked out about this.
When I was in Paris I never made it to Père Lachaise Cemetery and that made me sad. This might make up for it in a small, American way.

message 411: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I love that kind of logic.

Small American logic?

message 413: by Julie (new)

Julie | 568 comments Oooh, my favorite type of logic.

message 414: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Yeah ... that's it. Colma is a cool place. You should go.

message 415: by Cosmic Sher (new)

Cosmic Sher (sherart) | 2234 comments Larry, sit down, take off your shoes (gawdamnit!) and have a brew (or beverage of your choice).

There's no place like home!

message 416: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) You are correct, Sherrie, my dear woman. Ruby slippers or not ... there really is no place like it.

By the way, I did wave at your Marmon relatives yesterday.

message 417: by Cosmic Sher (new)

Cosmic Sher (sherart) | 2234 comments Ah thanks. See, we're spreadin' the love around.

message 418: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 777 comments Kevin, how long have you been back from India? I hope that stomach bug goes away! How is your son and how are you Anthony?
Have fun Nools!
I'm tired, I'm going to go to bed as soon as I finish looking at all my goodreads goodies. Ran around like a crazy person getting stuff done on Friday and Thursday and today and now it's catching up with me.

message 419: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments leslie - i have been back like 4 weeks now. thanks. i am working through it with some natural remedies. my son is great thanks!

message 420: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 777 comments I hope those remedies work fast--good luck!

message 421: by Cosmic Sher (new)

Cosmic Sher (sherart) | 2234 comments Oh Kev! A couple of years ago I had severe stomach pain (ulcer) for months and I ended up taking deglycyrrhizinated (DGL) Licorice Root chewables and it was the only thing that helped. It can be taken for many stomach ailments.

Usually you chew one or two before a meal to help digestion, etc. They are really strong so drink water after to get it all out of your mouth. Or you can look into infused teas, as well.

Hey, any new pictures? I loved the ones you posted a while back.

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Thanks, Leslie. We're kind of bouncing the illnesses back and forth, like a family should...today, Sunday, I'm going to take it easy.

I'm up, 1:40AM. I think I fell asleep around eight and then woke with a nightmare in which one of my colleagues was trying to strangle me.

Sarah (songgirl7) Right now I'm making a coffee cake, thanks to the power of suggestion in the Children's Book thread. RA and Other Sarah, I blame you!

message 427: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Heheh. My evil coffee cake domination plan is working.

I just finished thirty minutes on the elliptical while watching a Travel Channel special on Tibet.

Right now I'm kind of smelly.

message 428: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 777 comments I slept til 1:30 this afternoon--it felt so good! I still didn't want to get up! But now it's 4:30 and the day is running out and I'm not getting anything done. Oh well--it's ok. I do things in cycles, do a whole bunch of stuff for a few days, then nothing. Do any of you guys do it like that? I always think I should be this balanced person, but I probably won't ever be that. Which I guess is fine, living my life my way instead of how other people say it should be done.

Leslie, I'm like that, too. Some days I'm full of energy and I get lots of stuff done. Other days, I just want to curl up and read. I didn't get up until just before noon myself. And on a day like today, where it was snowing at 9 a.m., sunny at noon, and now is rainy and really windy, who wants to go outside?

message 430: by RandomAnthony (last edited Mar 15, 2009 02:48PM) (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments The problem with sleeping that late (or getting up really early) is it can throw off my entire sleep cycle. Does that happen to you guys?

message 431: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Yes -- but lately mine's been the other way, having to get up extra extra early for travel. Last year I ended up with pneumonia once because of a bad cold and lack of rest.

message 432: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Yeah, I've been worn down this spring, but never quite very sick. I'm on break this week, so I imagine I'll get sick soon.

message 433: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments i NEVER sleep later than 8am. no matter when i go to bed. course i am bout half sick all day if i do that. i am a morning person so i love mornings (plus sunday morning is church so i never get to sleep in on that day)

message 434: by RandomAnthony (last edited Mar 15, 2009 02:53PM) (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I agree, Kevin. I stay up past midnight and sleep past 8AM maybe two, three times a year, tops. My rock and roll lifestyle is terrifying, I'm sure.

Well, your CD collection looks shiny and costly.
How much did you pay for your bad Moto Guzi?
And how much did you spend on your black leather jacket?
Is it you or your parents in this income tax bracket?

Now tickets to concerts and drinking at clubs,
Sometimes for music that you haven't even heard of.
And how much did you pay for your rock'n'roll t-shirt
That proves you were there,
That you heard of them first?

How do you afford your rock'n'roll lifestyle?
How do you afford your rock'n'roll lifestyle?
How do you afford your rock'n'roll lifestyle?
Ah, tell me

Right now I'm feeling sleepy and finally clean. Best shower ever comes right after a weekend of smelly camping. I was the designated chef - we had roasted hobo packets and sauteed veggies for dinner and fried potatoes and eggs for breakfast - so lots of bending over hot, smoky fires for this girl.

We drove back from Santa Cruz on highway 35/Skyline Boulevard and halfway through it got dark and foggy - I was tense.

message 437: by Nuri (new)

Nuri (nools) | 538 comments Thanks, Leslie! I did have fun!

I just got back from Tahoe. The weekend was fabulous and at some points really difficult, and then amazing again. I had so much fun in the snow. If I didn't have the attention and care of responsible friends, I would've stayed outside in it until my face froze off (I thought I lost one of my toes for a while). Even though I've got this mountain of work between me and spring break, I feel well loved and refreshed!

message 438: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Glad to hear all your trips are going well. I'm going to the Munch show in Chicago today.

Right now I'm smelly again...must address this concern. Have a good day everyone.

message 439: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Nools - I flew over Tahoe last week on a clear night on the way to Sacramento. The moon was reflected in the lake. It was so cool. Glad you enjoyed the snow.

message 440: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (songgirl7) Why is it that everyone comes to Sacramento and doesn't tell me ahead of time? *pout*

message 441: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments i am glad everyone had nice weekends and are back safely.

i just returned from a day trip to Dayton, OH and now am sitting beside my pal Lucy watching what may be the most glorious sunset ever ( i say that every day )

message 442: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 777 comments Yeah, my sleep cycle does get all out of whack sometimes. I was so tired that on the day I got up at 1:30 in the afternoon I went to bed at 7:30 that night! I was that tired! Other times I'm on the go and full of energy, seems like I do things in marathons, even sleeping! Once in while I end up not going to bed at all, and I'm not a morning person for sure, I'm a night person. I admire people who get out of bed early everyday, I imagine them as very industrious and productive. I get jealous and try to turn myself into one, but it's never worked. At least not for these first 47 years, we'll have to see about the next 47, right?

message 443: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Right now I'm wishing I hadn't let my sister convince me to go to her Yoga for Masochists class this morning, and I know the pain will only get worse.

message 444: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Ha. Yesterday in Chicago I saw a flyer for "yoga for children." I'd almost like to send my kids just to see them make the instructor cry.

Right now I have all the windows open...low seventies...probably warmer even out by Jim...I'm going to sit on the porch and read Savage Detectives...the kids are all excited because they've played with all their neighborhood friends outside the last few days...and my wife put gold rollos (the candy) all over the house as gold pieces from the leprechaun (sp?). Life is good.

message 445: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Savage Detectives deserves sunny and warm weather.

There was a children's yoga class after one I took last summer -- all of the serious and stretchy little toddlers were super cute.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments We're supposed to hide candy now for St. Patrick's Day? When did this start? Should I be searching my office?

message 447: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments ::checks under desk::

Nope. No candy.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Me either, Sarah Pi. :(

message 449: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments I just got a call (in my resource desk capacity) asking if we help fund Easter candy for needy families. Now, we do help with Thanksgiving dinner for about 60 families every year, thanks to some turkey donations. And I do keep a list of organizations that help with Christmas.

But Easter? That's a new one to me. I don't mean to be grinchy, but pay for your own candy if you want it that badly...

message 450: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I think this might be a tradition limited to my wife. The kids had fun finding the candy. I had eaten two pieces already.
