Right now I'm ... Janine awesomeness
You sure are a traveling man, Larry. Is there snow in Denver? We've got that hush here that comes when it snows - hardly any traffic, nobody outside.
At least Denver's airport is a good one. I bet Larry and Kevin could collaborate on a guidebook for the nation's airports.Right now I'm watching Dora The Explorer (the non-skanky Dora) with a sick six-year old and waiting for my wife and other kids to leave so the house gets a little quieter.
I heart Dave.Right now I'm taking a break. I've been at my aunt's all day because my uncle died suddenly last night. I'm headed over there again in a little bit but I needed a breather. All the crying was not helping the stuffy nose at all.

Sarah, I'm so sorry. What a shock for you, and your family! Take care of yourself.
*hugs*
Thanks, guys. Today has been a pretty crummy day. But it has been pretty awesome to see all the lives my uncle touched. He was a really special man.Spend time with your loved ones. Tell your dads and husbands and brothers and uncles that you love them. No one is guaranteed tomorrow.
Sorry, Sarah. I'll do that this morning, with my wife and kids...Right now I think I'm deciding to skip basketball this morning. And I can't decide whether I should go to work early or at all. I'm supposed to help a student group with an activity at 6:30PM tonight. Maybe I'll wait until the early afternoon and go in then. I just can't entirely shake this flu thing.
Deciding when to suck it up and when to stay home is a tough one for me. Anyone else?
What is it that you do, RA? Because it sounds like you work in school? But you said before you'd much rather not K-12. So I'm guessing college?I generally stay put if: (1) I feel like I can completely kill the sickness entirely with a good day's rest, (2) I am in too much pain to move. Maybe you are already at work by now, though.
Cramming is cold. I am rewarding myself with 5 (more like 10-ish) minutes of internet free-time every chapter I finish. I can't wait for spring break.
If I think I might be infectious, I stay home. If I'm too snotty, I stay home. If I'm so tired I can't imagine getting dressed, I stay home.Otherwise, I go to work.
Went to a Richard Dawkins lecture tonight. It was excellent. Back in the air tomorrow to Salt Lake. Yippee :(.
I still can't hear people talk about Richard Dawkins without thinking about Family Feud. But I just looked that up and it was Richard Dawson.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_...
And that makes me think of Hogan's Heroes.
And thinking of Hogan's Heroes is ok with me.
i have not felt great since i returned from india and i am sure that it is a bug i got from eating or drinking there as i am never careful with that kind of stuff. i have had similar deals before but this time instead of letting it run it's course i am trying to eat papaya's which i have heard and read help remedy this. so far i am not sure as i just started but man, papaya seeds taste like pepper
Right now I'm doing one final sea monkey and e-mail check before I head out the door to the airport!
I'm so very excited! Excited to see my friends, to see a big city, to get out of brown, brown Colorado, and most of all excited not to think about my CO150 students for an entire week.

Right now I'm mentally preparing myself for getting poked over and over again at the allergist's office. I went last week, but they couldn't poke me because I was supposed to go 72 hours without antihistamines and no one told me beforehand. So, here I sit, itchy-, hot- and red-faced, miserable, and eager to get there and be done so I can take my zyrtec asap. The timing of this couldn't be more provident - the bradford pears and ragweed are all over the place; I just cleaned my apartment from top to bottom; and it's rainy/sunny/rainy/sunny/windy/sunny/hot/cold/warm/freezing. So nice.
I'm very happy this morning because my bar trivia team actually made it to the "World Series" for the first time ever. We've been doing these cycles of ten weeks and two playoffs for a couple of years, but we never get past the second playoff. We did last night. We do it for fun, and for the weekly gift certificates that pay our bar tab, but it's nice to win.Grand prize Saturday night? A thousand bucks. Cross your fingers.
Have a great time, Sally! And, uh, everyone, even those going to the allergist and competing in bar trivia! All you people lead more exciting lives than me.
Sympathy to Heidi, deprived of antihistamines. That sounds miserable! And Yay! to Sarah Pi for winning the trivia contest. I LOVE that kind of stuff. Good luck on the next round!
My life is anti-exciting at the moment. I had my dental checkup this morning, and even though I brushed my teeth afterwards, I still have polish residue gritting around in my teeth.
Worse, I have some old silver fillings that need to be replaced, because they're starting to crack the teeth they're in. Joy. :(
Thanks, Jackie. :) I'm going home RIGHT NOW to take my meds.HMMPH! I just found out I'm allergic to tomatoes. I LOVE tomatoes. And that cats and dust mites could put me into anaphalactic shock. I'm seriously sad now.
Allergic to tomatoes? You poor thing, Heidi! All tomatoes, or just fresh ones? Tomato sauce? What about pizza? My god, can you not eat pizza????Noooo!!!!
How in the world do you advoid dust mites? Aren't they in all the ... uh, dust? (not a domestic goddess here) One of my docs said that super-antioxidants that come from red wine concentrate & grape seeds can help allergies. Kevin, I really hope you get over your tummy stuff. My friend lived in India for a year and came back with something so nasty it took her a few years before she could eat anything spicy. Um, not to scare you or anything. :|
Right now I am: Laundrying/Packing!!Finished my last class for the week! Impending papers and midterms be damned, in three hours I leave for the snow! Yay, weekend!
Oh, break doesn't start until NEXT weekend... hahaha. We're going now because a lot of people can't make it next weekend.... Just getting a little head start, I guess?
Thanks, RA, Jackie! : )
Kevin: HAHAHA.. ah. I always think I could do better/more. But thank you. The encouragement is appreciated. : )
Right now I'm relaxing on the couch in my friends' beautiful sunny home on a hilltop in south San Francisco. Something heights neighborhood. Man, it is tiring walking here from the BART. feels good to recline.

Wait... are you in South San Francisco, the city? Or in the southern part of San Francisco proper? Because "South San Francisco" (where Candlestick Park is?) is a different city. And MUCH easier for me to get to for a lunch, actually.
I'm doing some laundry now before going back over to my aunt's house. People from her church have been wonderful. They have brought over more food than we can possibly eat before it spoils. And we have a huge family (my aunt & uncle have 7 kids and 9 grandkids, plus Brent and me, my parents, my mom's brother, and some of the in-laws). Someone brought over 5 roasted chickens. We ate 2 of them and today we're using the meat from the rest to make chicken enchiladas. We also have about 5 lbs. each of deli sliced turkey, ham, roast beef, swiss cheese, jack cheese, and cheddar. And baskets and baskets of muffins and pastries. There are a couple of frozen pizzas, some spaghetti casserole, a lasagna, tons of potato salad, and lots of fruit. I think tomorrow morning before the memorial service we are going to take some of the extra food to the railroad tracks and give it to the homeless people.
I think the food thing is instinctual, Sarah. People want to do something, and food is nurturing and life sustaining in the face of death. I'm at work, listening to "Tale of Hoffmann" over and over, and I just don't care for the Antonia act at all. I think there's too much soloing by Antonia, who is singing herself to death (no, really, that's how the story goes), and I don't care for the melody line - too high and too much the same, and after a while it grates.
I love the Giulietta act, set in Venice, with the gorgeous barcarolle, and the chorus singing harmony off in the distance. Dreamy!
I'm at work too, Jacks. Friday night, 7:33PM. I have Starbucks coffee on my desk and I'm getting a shitload done. I stayed home with a sick kid on Tuesday then stayed home yesterday afternoon and today for pre-arranged days off of school (parent/teacher conferences). So I was feeling guilty and I also just wanted to get the hell out of the house for a while. For the record, I'm listening to God Speed You Black Emperor!'s "Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven" on full volume.
It's nice and quiet at work after 5 p.m., isn't it, RA?Uh, except for the "God Speed You Black Emperor!'s "Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven" on full volume" part, that is...
