The Perseids were not good here this year.

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I missed 'em. I was working late (as I have for the past 3 weeks). :-\

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Oh Kevin, I've been putting in some serious hours and work at the office over the past few weeks and I haven't even really had a break on the weekends... so YES, I'm totally stoked about it being Friday because I have NO obligations for the first time in a long time through the weekend. :) I plan to do nothing. But first... tackling the pile of stuff-to-do on my desk with enthusiasm.

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Gomer Pyle. His cousin was Goober Pyle.

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments heidi - get stuff done at work and ENJOY some time doing as much or as little as you want. my hope for you is JOY this weekend in whatever you do.

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I plan to give my dog some much deserved attention... and spend some time at the pool. Plus our first kickball game of the season is on Sunday. I'm umping another game after that. It'll be fun. I always enjoy spending time on the kickball fields.

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments :) You're very welcome. A bit of trivia - Jim Nabors has a beautiful singing voice (check out Back Home Again In Indiana). I have a holiday CD on which he sings Joy to the World, too - that's the one that blew me away. Between that and Mahalia Jackson's O Holy Night, I was reduced to tears in a matter of minutes. They just do Christmas songs so beautifully. You could imagine my surprise after years of hearing him talk through his nose as Gomer Pyle. He's definitely a chest singer. :)

message 3058: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments he traditionally sings that at the start of the Indy 500

message 3059: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I've never watched car races on television so it would make sense that I wouldn't know that. Interesting follow-up, Kevin. :)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments After a loooong tiring week, I'm crashing already. And it's ONLY 1:25!!! I have another 3 and a half hours to be productive and all I want to do is take a nap. UGH!!! HALP!

Get up and go walk a lap outside your building. The fresh air and outside light will help wake you up.

message 3062: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I tried that earlier during my lunch break.

I'd hide under my desk and take a nap if I didn't think people would come looking for me.

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
Car nap?

message 3064: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I just downed two cups of ice black coffee. Maybe that'll do the trick. I'm hoping it will. I'm not a fan of coffee, so it better be worth the sacrifice.

His Christmas LP still spins at our house every year.

message 3074: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Yep. Jim Nabors is still alive (although, I thought he was dead too, Mindy).

He's one of those people who just made enough, did enough once upon a time and now doesn't hafta do anything anymore.

message 3076: by Meen (new)

Meen (meendee) | 1733 comments Is he gay? I always wondered about that. Even before I knew what gay was.

message 3077: by Sally, la reina (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
I don't think he knows what gay is.

message 3082: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments floyd was a little suspicious too

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments They didn't call him "The Gay Deceiver" for nothing, Kevin!

Floyd was usually just a side character, despite his barbershop being one of the main centers of action in the town, although there were a few instances where he took center stage. On one such occasion, was on a 1962 episode called "Floyd, The Gay Deceiver". Floyd's female penpal with whom he had been corresponding writes to tell him she's paying him a visit. Floyd begs Andy to help him because he's been deceiving her into thinking he was a wealthy businessman. Andy reluctantly agrees to help put up the act, only to discover that the woman is a con artist herself, intent on getting her hands on Floyd's "money."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floyd_La...

Actually, I think I remember that the actor have some sort of health problems that meant he had to sit down most of the time? Yes...

When not cutting hair, Floyd can generally be seen sitting on the bench outside his shop. In fact, in almost all of his appearances later in the series, Floyd is only seen sitting or appears to be standing behind the barber's chair. This is due to the fact that Howard McNear suffered a massive stroke and was left with little use of his arms and legs, especially his left arm, which rarely moved. Floyd was absent from the 1963 season, and from 1964 on, his appearances were brief and less frequent.

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments right now i am ready to puke. i know:

Get a hold of yourself Garth - if you hurl and I get a whiff of it, I'll spew. And if I blow chunks the chances are other people are gonna honk.

today if donated plasma (donated? they pay you for it) and i feel pukey. twice a week for 1 hour each time and you can make about $240 a month. i am going to Haiti in october and this will help pay my way. i think i need to eat differently....

message 3085: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Ah, here we go...

Right now I'm writing up donor agreements and waiting for a 1:30PM meeting to start...if I focus I can get out of here by 2:30...I was afraid to go out to lunch, by the way, because the parking lot is way crowded and I'd lose my parking space.

message 3086: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments I am in a very good mood today because I played poker for money for the first time ever last night (not counting playing for pennies with my uncles when we were kids). And you know what? I won. I won I won I won. It wasn't big money, but I doubled what I put in, and that was more than anyone else did.
This despite my absolute inability to keep a straight face. Apparently I am just one big tell, from my eyebrows to my mouth to my hair.

message 3087: by [deleted user] (new)

Obviously not a big enough tell - you won.

message 3088: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments I had some really good luck, and I'm smart enough to fold if things aren't going my way.

I just have no ability to bluff.

Or do I???

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I'm packing up to go camping. Just about ready, I just have to put some laundry away first.
Led Zeppelin is playing on the radio, sun is coming in the open windows, and it really feels like summer vacation.
I'll be back on Thursday...

message 3090: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Have fun, Librarian. Fear not the mosquitoes!
