Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Grrrr to corporate crap!

Good luck, Larry! If you start feeling down mid-review, just think "Bite his nose!" to yourself.

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments On a somewhat related subject, I saw a trailer over the weekend for a documentary about Mike Tyson, aptly named "Tyson." I'm intrigued. I want to see it.

message 2803: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm intrigued as to why you are interested Heidi. I saw that it was coming out, and thought that it was a movie I could miss for sure.

message 2804: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) My mid-year review went fine. I don't know why I worry about that stuff.

All noses are safe!

See? I was right.

message 2806: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Of course.

message 2807: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 777 comments Larry--I do the same thing and they always go good--I have a feeling it's the people who don't care that get the bad reviews. The people who do get stressed get the good ones. That's my theory.

I read an article in Newsweek about Tyson--it sounds good.

message 2808: by Nuri (new)

Nuri (nools) | 538 comments Glad your mid-year review went well, Larry.

Right now, I'm nervously checking my hair every five minutes. I'm not especially vain, but, annoyed with how long it's gotten, I just hacked off about four inches with my Red Scissors. It alternately looks unacceptably uneven and just passably like... really ragged layering..... HM.

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments WHY would I be intrigued? He's a man full of contradictions, Jim. I don't admire him, by any means. But his candor, at the very least, would win at least one watch. Besides, James Toback directed it. Maybe it'd be like watching a train wreck. I doubt it, though. I'm sure I'd actually like it.

I also want to watch 12 and The Foot Fist Way.

Larry, I'm glad the noses have survived your annual review.

message 2810: by [deleted user] (new)

I understand Heidi, but I don't see him as a man full of contradictions. I see him as a person who bullied his way through life, and once he wasn't the toughest bully anymore he became nothing. He reminds me on the bully in "The Christmas Story".

Have you seen the preview, Jim? The movie isn't making him out to be anything he's not. It just looks like it's done well.

message 2812: by Félix (last edited Jul 28, 2009 06:35AM) (new)

Félix (habitseven) Thanks Nools and Heidi. Breathing easy again. They let a bunch of people go here recently who were considered "surplus" for about a year. I'm not in that category, thankfully.

I would like to see that flick, too. Not because I admire the man, though.

I have not Sally, so maybe I should wait and see.

message 2814: by Heidi (last edited Jul 28, 2009 07:19AM) (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments That right now he is a quiet family man who's turned to spirituality to help him deal with his anger issues is very much a contradiction to the bully image of him that I've always had. Gah, I was sad for him when his daughter died.

Again, it was in the hands of a very capable director which makes the intrigue all the more.

trailer:

Tyson

message 2815: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks for the link Heidi, and you are right Sally it doesn't appear to portray him as anything but what he is.

message 2816: by Heidi (last edited Jul 28, 2009 07:38AM) (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments See?! In the hands of a capable director, anything is possible. :) I think it'll pay off. Tyson's playing at the local indy cinema right now. I'm tempted to watch it in the theatre.

message 2817: by [deleted user] (new)

Of forgive me Heidi, why did I ever doubt you!

message 2818: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Foolish man.

message 2819: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Jim, you should watch it, too! Let us know what you think of it. :) You too, Larry.

message 2820: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes Larry I thought I better get that in while I still had a nose.

message 2821: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I will make a definite point of seeing that film some time in the next 20 years (if I follow my normal pattern, that is).

message 2822: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Right now I'm in the dining room, waiting for my three sons to come inside. I have charged them with the task of picking up all the crab apples from underneath the apple tree. I am not paying them. They did not complain much at my first, but my nine year old just came inside and said, "it's not my tree, it's yours."

That argument was not, to his surprise, successful.

He's now back outside helping his brothers pick up the apples.

I have ice cream cake for them when they finish, and I will compliment them on their hard work.

SLAVE DRIVER!

(Now I want some ice cream cake. :,( ... )

I bet you really disappointed him when you shot that down, RA. I can imagine him out there, preparing his speech, just knowing he'd then be free for the rest of the day.

message 2825: by Nuri (new)

Nuri (nools) | 538 comments Lucky for you, RA, your kids are still young enough to be appeased by ice cream cake. If my brother is in any way an accurate example of boys, nothing short of a new car will make them smile with that kind of ecstatic gratification in a handful of years.

message 2826: by Nuri (new)

Nuri (nools) | 538 comments That said, I don't know that I can outgrow doing chores for food. Blessed are the simple-minded? Or the hungry? Yes, I think the second one's in there somewhere.

message 2827: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I'm listening to and watching the fireworks from the Omaha Royals/Round Rock Express baseball game across town.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments That sounds perfect, Larry. :D

message 2829: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Now it's raining like crazy.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments It's sunset here, Larry. You would love it - the sky is peach on one side, and lavender on the other.

message 2831: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Wow -- take a picture if you can. Sounds lovely.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Okay, I'll do my best. Sunsets are hard to capture well without a tripod.

message 2833: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Right now I'm listening to Sigur Ros's () disc while cleaning the house with the windows open and the rain falling...breezes blowing the curtains back. Great Saturday morning.

I live in one of those counties that's half rural/small town and half suburban. This week is the Ozaukee County Fair, where the rural side gets to come out with their cows and carnival rides and horrible food and games of chance. We went last night...I braved the ferris wheel, thank you very much.

message 2834: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (luvrdn) | 501 comments A man who cleans house, I remember those days. My husband can no longer even rinse his own dish.
Do you make apple sauce?

Jackie, are you getting any relief from the heat?

Larry, are the Omaha Royals a farm team?

message 2835: by Jackie "the Librarian" (last edited Aug 01, 2009 01:36PM) (new)

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I'm figuring out what I need at the store to make potato salad and birthday cake. It's Chris' birthday on Monday, so I need to get some buttermilk and some whipping cream, and some fresh peaches to slice up and put on top...

Michelle, yes, it's only in the low 80s today. MUCH better! :)

message 2836: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (luvrdn) | 501 comments Glad to hear the furnace has been turned down.
Are you making the cake from scratch?

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Yes, because homemade cake is the BEST!

message 2838: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (luvrdn) | 501 comments I agree

message 2839: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) pas de doute

message 2840: by smetchie (new)

smetchie | 4034 comments I'm waiting for my husband to come home with DAIRY QUEEN!

that's right!

message 2841: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (luvrdn) | 501 comments What would happen if the Dairy Queen hooked up with the Burger King and they had a kid? What would you call it?

message 2842: by Angie (new)

Angie (angabel) Right now I am... debating on selling most of my books and DVDs. Hmmmmmm. The thing stopping me are all these pesky seller fees, 'cause right now I've got $8 in my debit account.

Also, I found out the local 4-H might get the axe because of money issues. So I'm thinking of doing some research and writing to the newspaper about how our county needs to step up and save 4-H 'cause without it, I'd probably be a bum now like the rest out of my county.

message 2843: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (luvrdn) | 501 comments Don't the 4-H kids do fund raising like Girl scouts?

message 2844: by Angie (new)

Angie (angabel) My club never did, that I can remember.

message 2845: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I am about to go out into the end of a gorgeous day here in Omaha. Low temp and low humidity. Perfect! Hoping for a stellar sunset -- but it's okay if it's ordinary.

message 2846: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (luvrdn) | 501 comments Enjoy Larry

message 2847: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Thanks, Michelle. Is it nice where you are?

message 2848: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (luvrdn) | 501 comments Yes, it's very nice in K.C. this evening, thanks

message 2849: by [deleted user] (new)

Great evening here in Wisconsin too. County fair time and they couldn't ask for better weather.

message 2850: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (luvrdn) | 501 comments Our fairs and ren fest don't start till end of August, and then the first of Sept.
