Enjoy your time, and then enjoy your vacation.

I need a vacation...I just finished all day yard work and I am waiting fro the grand kids to come by.( step grandkids, I'm just saying)
Right now I'm on the third floor of my mother-in-law's house in western NY. She's at a wedding so my family are here on our own until tomorrow. The kids were great in the car, thank you, video games. We saw a Fed Ex truck flipped over and boxes strewn everywhere in northwestern Indiana...nice traffic jam associated with it, too, although I supposed I could have leaped out of the car and grabbed a toaster. Several dotted the shoulder.I'm exhausted. More later, people.
Glad you made it RA.
Just back from my wife's Class Reunion, it may be time for a nap!

I'm watching a dramatization of Apollo 11 on History Channel in a hotel room in Salt Lake City. Yes children, I clearly recall when it happened in real life. The show is well done, by the way.
I only have minor scrapes and bruising from being carried over the rocks by the river current on Saturday. I kayaked. I can guaran-damn-tee that I would not have gotten knocked out of my kayak (because it's hard to do) if there wasn't a 5-canoe pile-up on an already narrow S-curve blocking the passageway. I lost the kayak (which eventually followed me down the current). It was kind of scary for a short while there when I tried to swim against the current and was getting pushed under and getting rammed against large rocks and realizing that my life jacket was still attached to the kayak.
I quickly decided to just float on top of the current seeing as I'd lost my shoes so walking out of the water wasn't an option (sharp rocks in the riverbed).
I also learned how it's possible to drown in 18 inches of water. The current pushed me foot-over-head through the shallow water. Don't get me wrong - I'm a great swimmer. I can swim all day long, but that was some serious weirdness. All of this fun occurred just a few minutes from where we ended the day. Overall, it was tons of fun and laughs. I kayaked over at least 6 falls with NO problems and my friends canoed expertly. The day was GORGEOUS. The weather was perfect and so was the water. The whole weekend, overall gets an A+++ from me. :)
All
Eek. That's scary as shit. No kayaking for me.I do think that...what in the hell do they call it...that sport/activity where people stand on what looks like surfboards and use long paddles to steer/move forward looks really cool. I've seen people do it on Lake Michigan. What the hell is it called? Someone help me out here.
OH! And the prequel to my weekend was pretty spectacular also. I got to play host to Chairy (Jessica) for a few days. I took her out for a quick walk through The Old Mill in North Little Rock, a catfish dinner and a quick tour of our wee town. The next day was a barbeque lunch, the Clinton Presidential Library, a quick run-through the Central Arkansas Library's Cox Creative Center, and some bubble tea at the River Market. Jessica, I enjoyed getting to play host for the day with you,and I hope I didn't wear you out or bore you at any point! :)

Kayaks, for the most part, are really, REALLY easy to maneuver over the water. RA, I'm sure you'd have no problems in a kayak on the river!
In fact, I'm thinking about investing in one for myself. I've canoed for years and years - my dad used to take me canoeing when I was a kid quite a bit. It took me about an hour to get acclimated to the kayak because it's pretty different from canoeing, but once I did, I LOVED it.
I'd do it again in a heartbeat!
Well, what song would you think best puts you back in that moment when you were battling the rapids? Born Free,I wouldn't think so..Come on Feel the Noise? for examples.
Ah. Gotcha. Well, I spent most of the day singing Everyday Normal Guy by Jon La Joie while on the river.
However, the few times it got hairy, I was singing (::insert electric guitar strum:: "KICK IT!!") this one.
:) T.I.'s Whatever You Like was also in there on the rotation seeing as how he's managed to get himself locked up in the federal penitentiary in east Arkansas (and we were on the river in northeast Arkansas near the Missouri border) and his name/music/prison sentence came up in convo several times throughout the day.
And when the water got ruuuude wit me, I pulled out a lil Bon Qui Qui on it.
Does that answer your question? :)
:) Nothing so tame as John Denver. We saw a LOT of this on the river. And we did some of this. And this, too. It was pretty crowded. We also saw alot of guys fishing.
When I see these kinds of rivers I get a desire to write about them or photograph them, getting in is someone elses journey. I always wonder who does that kind of stuff. Glad to meet you Heidi
I'll speak on behalf of 99.9995 percent of our active group members in saying this, Rodney - we LOVE to read (when we have time).
Michelle wrote: "When I see these kinds of rivers I get a desire to write about them or photograph them, getting in is someone elses journey. I always wonder who does that kind of stuff. Glad to meet you Heidi":) I'm not the only person who does it. It's a BIG summer activity in Arkansas. I'd say that most of the people I know living here have done it. I also know some peeps who photograph Arkansas, "The Natural State" in its natural state ( Paul Caldwell). :)
Heidi, is the Spring River cold? I know it comes out of Mammoth Spring, and that's pretty cold (and deep) water.
It's supposedly 58 degrees year round. Considering it was about 94 and clear out that day, 58 degree water was refreshing. There were holes in the kayak (deliberately built as such) that acclimated my bum to the cold water fairly quickly. It wasn't such a shock when I'd get in the water because I was kind of already sitting in it all day. It smelled fishy.
Thanks for sharing that Heidi, I am from Lake Ozark M.O. and fall is my favorite time of year. I love his eye with the camera. I believe I will follow his work from now on. Thosr rocks are gorgeous!!
HOLY MOLEY!!! I can't believe I forgot that I sang David Allen Coe's You Don't Have to Call Me, Darlin' during my weekend. My fellow camp/river mates were quick to sing along with me. GAH! It's perfect for several days of camping and spending the day on the river. I dare anyone to stay in a crappy mood after singing along with it at the top of your lungs. It's just not possible.
The only time it got quiet - when She's Like the Wind popped up on the CD player back at camp. The boys didn't like it.
Right now I'm going to run but later I'll be on the road with my nine year old (the only one who will go with me) to see the Brewers take on the Pirates at PNC Park in Pittsburgh. We won't get back until tonight...have a great day, people!
I can't stop laughing at the pics on the cakewrecks blog. cakewrecks.blogspot.com
My faves are the Lenin cake, the hello kitty cakes, and the hysterectomy cakes.
Zen introduced me to that site awhile back (thanks, Zen).
Right now I'm having some champagne and getting ready to watch True Blood. My first drink of alcohol in 6 weeks!
Were you celebrating something Sally? Or is True Blood good enough for champagne?
Sally!!!! :) I hope you love True Blood. I'm hooked. Nools, it IS a cool site. That's why I'm sharing it (with credit to Zen, of course).
Sally, I wonder if cakewrecks.blogspot.com would qualify as one of your cool blogs for your project.
Right now I am crocheting a baby blanket for the little girl two of my friends are having soon. It's going to be half-Bhutanese and half-Taiwanese and the cutest little girl ever.
Right now I'm sitting at the dining room table after drinking coffee in my own house for the first time in a week. I slept hard last night...needed that, apparently. It's always good to be home.
There's no place like home, no place like home, no place like home......
Ha...exactly, Jim. Good to be back in Wisconsin.Right now I'm sitting on the front porch, drinking coffee, listening to my wife and kids get ready. Sometimes it's best to stay out of their way. My wife is taking a class this week so I'm doing the Mr. Mom thing until 3:30 or so every day then going into work from 4 until nine or so. The office should be deserted, yay, and I'll geta lot done. After so much time with the family I could use a few hours in the office by myself. Don't tell them I said that.:)
*ring ring*Mrs. Randomanthony? Yes? ... I have something to tell you about your husband....
:) I need my alone time even if I'm just hanging out at a friend's for the weekend. They don't get it but I'm sure a lot of readers do.
Right now I'm... eating sushi and marveling over my first received bookmooch book. It's a book I NEVER thought I would be able to find, let alone in an English translation. I'm just hoping after reading it I won't feel the need to learn Chinese in order to do graduate work.
Right now I'm fretting over my mid-year review coming up at 3:30 PM CDT. I HATE these things. Did I mention that I HATE them? *sighs*
Good luck sir Lawrence of Omaha.
Here's to the speed with which this review will pass, Larry!
I'm sure that you'll hear nothing but good, and this review will be an ego boost! :D
