Félix (habitseven) The old shelver overload crisis. I see.

Félix (habitseven) Well get cracking, there Matt.

message 2405: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments What's wrong with your back, sir?

The shelver overload crisis sounds weird. What the hell? Did everyone plan to take everything back at once? Was it a conspiracy? Was it a protest? Are the shelvers spreading untruths and have let the returned books pile up? Something is not right in Olympia.

message 2406: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I try to spread my returns out so that I don't inadvertently contribute to this problem. I think they call it "work leveling" in the Lean implementations I've seen.

TxLadyForever | 190 comments ok - cleanup so much of my inbox i am exhausted! Need a nap! :)

Matthieu | 1009 comments My back was a bit tight, Anthony. I feel much better.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Five Olympia Library staffers were out for various reasons, RA, plus that branch has been having heavier returns than usual. They didn't even have enough carts to put all the returned books on, let alone enough people to shelve them.

I paged for 5 hours (and did some childrens readers' advisory, too, which was a lot of fun - here kid, read this!), and I am exhausted. I'd prefer not to have to lift my arms for the rest of the day, thank you.

message 2410: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) There she goes again with the library jargon.

Paged?

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Sorted and shelved books, Larry. The folks who do that in libraries are called pages.
It's cute, isn't it?

message 2412: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Yes it is. If they organized would they belong to a chapter?

message 2418: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments What's the crawlspace like? How long were you in there?

Not long after we moved into town, nearly thirteen years ago, we had the worst storms in decades, knocking down trees, power out for days, etc. I was like...where in the f--k did we move?

Right now I'm hiding on the front porch. My oldest had a friend sleep over. Too much stimuli over there. Might head to work soon and the gym later.

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Right now I'm waiting for the pizza to finish cooking. After I eat I'll lock myself in an air conditioned room and prepare for the two week intensive assessment class I'm teaching after the fourth of the July.

This morning I rode 18 miles on the bike path in 80 minutes, but I could have gone faster if I hadn't had to cross so many streets. Then I went to Costco.

WELCOME BACK HEIDI! yea we have been at it at a mad pace!

TRUTH! We don't want to work at work just read and post!

Usako (bbmeltdown) Right now nearly nodding off on this training manual. Ug. Hate having to test beta sites. Mostly because I end up with a list of complaints and none get implemented or fixed.

Whoever heard of a form that doesn't let you TAB through the fields?

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments BunWat wrote: "Hey Heidi! Welcome back! Did you have fun?"

Thanks, BunWat. I had an okay time. I was ready to come back to work. I went out of state with cousins. Their idea of vacation includes LOTS of internet, television, and planning outings around college sporting events (specifically the College World Series) - a visit to a winery, shopping, some trailriding through the mountain forest, pool time, paddleboating. My cousin Leah's cell phone ringtone is the LSU fight song. I got tired of being holed up in our condo on my vacation, and finally took control of my own schedule the last couple of days I was there.

True statement (from cousin): "We wanted to visit the Atlantic Ocean so while we were in Hilton Head, we went to the beach and stuck our toe in the water so that we could say we've been in the Atlantic."

I really, REALLY wanted to go white water rafting and hiking while I was there. I didn't get to do it.

message 2428: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Was the trailriding fun? I'm with you - more hiking, less planned outings.

message 2429: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Right now I'm wishing I hadn't accepted the cookie-brownie-thing that came past my office a little while ago. It was so sweet that I can't get the smell of sugar out of my head. I threw away half, but my eyeballs are bugging out of my head. When will I learn? Sugar. Is. Not. My. Friend.

message 2430: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments It's hard to turn away food at work. I'm convinced you could study teachers' lounges and discover teachers will eat the grossest food ever if it's placed on the table right before recess.

message 2431: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments The trailriding was awesome! We were out for two hours, crossed brooks and rivers... my horse, Tonto, was HUGE and he loved to jog. It's been so long since I've gone trailriding, I didn't know if I could remember what to do. It didn't take long for me to get into it, though. It's been 6 years since I've done any trailriding. It's been about 2 since I did some barrel racing around my friend's arena. He was the nicest horse I've ridden in a while. It seems like I always end up with the aggressive ones who like to bite the other horses on the butt. :)

My favorite day was the day of my drive home. I stopped in Nashville for several hours to visit with a friend. It was Nashville Pride Day. The downtown area was bustling and fun! Then I stopped in Memphis for dinner with my old roommate and his girlfriend. I love roadtrips. Next time, I'm doing it on MY schedule and no one else's.

message 2432: by Usako (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) Heidi: Are the horses yours or did you rent them for trailriding? It sounds like a wonderful experience!

Ahahaha. RA, you should start a thread and write daily what the grossiest thing someone ate.

message 2434: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments You should get strange foods just to see if they'll eat them. Start with squid jerky, and go from there.

Heidi, that sounds lovely.

Aahaha. Sarah Pi, you reminded me of the strange Asian ice cream flavors - SQUID Ice Cream.

message 2436: by Heidi (last edited Jun 24, 2009 12:52PM) (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments AH HAHAHAHA! RA, that's hilarious. I bet if someone set out organ meat they'd turn up their noses. Some one could do a television series or reality show on what people will eat in the breakroom.

Tanja, we rented the horses from a nearby ranch and had a short trailguide who had impressive arms (I tried to get pics, but they all came out fuzzy because we were so bouncy... nm that that doesn't sound right, it is what it is) leading our group of 8. Oddly, I expected my thighs would be massively sore after the ride, but they weren't. They were just jello-y for a short while an my knees were pissed at me. My stomach and back were sore the next day (from all the bouncing... like crunches sitting up) though, like seriously sore. It was awesome!

message 2437: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments I used to work at a trail stable. Once a couple showed up in shorts and sandals and said they wanted a two hour ride. I warned them that they would be hurting by the end.
"It's ok!" the wife said cheerfully. "We brought Vaseline!"
So, rather than wear jeans, they slathered their legs with vaseline.
I kind of enjoyed making it a rough ride for them.

Heidi, horses are a great hobby for creating impressive arms (all that hay) and abs (if you absorb the jolt through your abs, it doesn't hurt your back, and gives your abs a great workout).

message 2438: by Heidi (last edited Jun 24, 2009 01:14PM) (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments We were going up and down steep grades, Sarah, so I leaned back (would've def. given back a good workout) when we were heading down the mountains and forward when we were going up (same for stomach).

That vaseline story is HILARIOUS! Ding dongs. Who DOES that sh*t?!! I hope you guys galloped.

My grandparents had a farm with horses (I had one named after Heidi), cows, a goat named Tinkerbell, and a stocked pond for fishing for catfish, complete with a summer resident swan. I'd spend summers with the grandparents. I never competed, but I could hold my own in saddling up, horseshoeing, bareback, trailriding, and climbing on and off on my own. My aunt was a competitive barrel racer. She taught me how to do that, too. I'd have the full range of the farm for riding... and I loved to ride fast as I could without getting in trouble with the grownups (the only way to do that was to ride fast when they weren't looking). I was too young and ignorant to know just how dangerous it really could be. But I was small enough that my weight was insignificant and the horses were very well-trained.

message 2439: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I would have given anything to have had summers like that, Heidi. I guess you know how fortunate you were.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Those sound like great summers, Heidi. And, other than the three day Girl Scout horse camp I went to when I was ten, very different than my summers as a kid on army bases.
There don't tend to be any goats around, for one thing.

message 2441: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I do, Larry! I swear. I'd only stay for 2-3 weeks at a time with them. It was never the full summer. Man, it was awesome, though. Some of the pics from summer visits are posted on that other site.

Right now I'm shaking my fist at whoever started jackhammering at 7:30 this morning. It's not that I wasn't up, but I just can't write when it's that noisy. Why are people so inconsiderate?
