Your avatar scares me Heidi if that is any consolation.

...er, what?
Who benefits from transitory illusion of nature?

Today I'm both a sunbather and a daydreamer. I saw a rainbow in a ring around the sun. Caused by a misty cloud or my sunglasses or both (I wasn't going to take them off to check.) What does it mean? Good omen? Storm coming? C'mon, somebody must know.

Sally, just looking at just a photo of nature, even though it's not really a window to outside, is supposed to be beneficial for people."Having access to appealing natural environments encourages physical activity, which has obvious benefits. It also has a calming effect, reducing stress and blood pressure, even cholesterol," says Townsend.
Simply looking at nature can be healing. During the 1980s and 1990s, a number of studies demonstrated that nature views offer a range of benefits for hospital patients, office workers, prison inmates and car commuters.
Less stress, lowered blood pressure, fewer headaches and illnesses, greater job satisfaction among workers and quicker recovery rates for post-operative patients have all been linked to feasting the eyes on natural landscapes.
"We gain life by looking at life," says Townsend. "If we see living things we don't feel as if we're living in a vacuum. Even watching a nature film or looking at pictures of natural landscapes makes a positive difference."

I used to loooove to watch the squirrel that would hang out on my window or on the rooftop next door to our old clinic. Sometimes he'd chatter at me. The squirrels at our clinic were always eating the telephone wires, though... and digging holes through the ceiling over the employee bathroom. I about diiiiied laughing (because I couldn't catch my breath) when my old boss came into our office area in a panic because she saw a little squirrel arm hovering over her head while she was going to the bathroom. The maintenance man patched said hole up with a piece of plywood. I wish you could've been in the room with us when she called the maintenance man to tell him about it.
Quick! HAAAALP!!! I'm trying to NOT fall asleep at my desk today. I was up waaaay too late last night (darn friends) and about damn near had a heart attack when my alarms went off this morning. I've had a double shot of espresso and protein for breakfast and I could barely keep my eyes open during our mindnumbing meeting this morning. And honestly, despite the fact that I've had more than my regular quotient of caffeine, I am soooo relaxed. Too relaxed.
I need help staying awake. Any (practical) suggestions?
Mint. Gum, tea, candy. It stimulates something that always helps me.
And get some fresh air if you can.

Right now I'm headed out to the patio with my sketchbook, iPod, and Hidden Camera, hands down the weirdest book I've read all year.
(And I re-read The Wind-Up Bird Chronicles this year, mind you.)

Thanks for the suggestions, Sally and Larry. I just found out that I don't have to babysit tonight and that gave me a bit of an energy boost! Woo HOOO, I get to veg out on the couch when I get home in, oooohhh, 2 hours and 15 minutes. :)Sally, your book seems rather intriguing!
I'm going to watch the national spelling bee tonight! My sister wants me to wait for her so we could tape it and use it as a drinking game tomorrow night, but I don't know if I can wait. I love my once a year fix of nervous prodigies.
man that squirrel in the pic is creepy. that is the kind of squirrel who sounds like sam kinison, not chris rock
What channel is it on? That sounds like something I'd watch.
Don't tell me it's ESPN or I'll throw a minor fit.

Long day of meetings, getting ready to lift weights, then t-ball practice...This is the worst time of year, busyness-wise. After this week the scenario should improve.
Finished with finals about twenty minutes ago. I'm coming home on Tuesday. I'm pretty happy.I need to come home.
Yay for Matt! School's out for summer, freshman year is OVUH! So what are your plans for the summer?
He's gonna backpack across Europe and take his trusty sketchbook/journal with him everywhere he goes (because that's what I would do if I were him).
The tops of the Cathedrals are too high. Too high! No, seriously, I refused to go to the top of St. Peter's in Rome. That's f--king high.
As long as there's a decent railing or balustrade, I'm fine with heights. I do get nervous up on mountains, where you could just trip and end up going over an edge...:::shudder:::
I get terrified, and I go up anyway. Then I stand at the top terrified. Some of those railings are rickety, I tell you.
When I was leaving the oil rig exhibit at the 1984 World's Fair, we were several stories up by the time we left... and had to walk down LOTS of flights of steel grating steps (as in the kind you can see straight down through). I froze up and had to scoot down the stairs on my butt... the WHOLE way. It was very disorienting to stand on stairs like that.
