Thank you again Jim, i just bought The Road. Also, I'm planning to buy the other one, but i'm waiting so i can use my discount coupon!!!=)
No problem, I hope that you enjoy them.
I couldn't put The Road down and I'm not sure what that says because it is not an uplifting book.
You have to like coupons, no need to pay full price if it isn't necessary.

I keep looking for The Wind-Up Bird Chronicles at the Goodwill Bookstore, but I guess it's too good to get there! Might have to break down and just get it. I love the other books by him I've read.

KarenC, you gotta use those discount coupon for B&N! I wait with baited breath each month they come out.Leslie, you sound exactly like the kind of parent I want to be when my girl is 16. It pretty much works now, but she has such a mind of her own (she thinks she's 16 now!) that I'm a little bit worried about the next 10 years. Good for you, though! (clap, clap, clap)
Sherrie - armchair physicist wrote: "KarenC, you gotta use those discount coupon for B&N! Borders coupon is for 30% and it gives you more items to choose.
Jim: I was the same way with The Road. My wife was out of town for the weekend and I basically consumed that book over a 48 hour period alone in an empty house. Reading it in this way probably gave the book a greater impact, but I did manage to resist the temptation to rush to the store and buy fifty bucks worth of canned peaches...
South of the Border, West of the Sun and Kafka on the Shore are the other two books I've read by Murakami. South...is a collection of short stories, very good, and Kafka is the first book I read by him and it sort of took me in on the first page and spit me out on the last. It was good!!!!Thanks, Sherrie-I know what you mean about kids thinking they are 16 when they're little, Emily always did! Now she's probably about 34 in her head!! I'm real proud of her and our relationship--it's the most important thing in the whole world to me.
Um...as a huge Murakami fan I must interject...Leslie, I think you're either thinking of Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman or The Elephant Vanishes with the short stories; South of the Border, West of the Sun is a novel. Here's my Murakami shelf, by the way...

Oh, ok--thanks Anthony. I love what I've read by Murakami, but I haven't read much! I know I read a book of short stories by him, but I don't remember which one, then. I loved Kafka on the Shore. That was my introduction to Murakami and it blew me away!I agree Sherrie! That's the best feeling in the world!
Anthony--I just wnet on your Murakami shelf to make sure I have them all on my to read shelf. I love the cover of Norweigan Wood, and of course it catches my eye because it's a Beatles song.
What's your favorite book by him?
Oh, man, Leslie, they're all good...I get them confused sometime too, by the way...hope I didn't sound snotty.I loved Wind-up Bird Chronicle the most, I guess, but I should probably re-read Kafka...
OMG, thanks so much for all the recommendations. I have no idea how i'm going to do with my luggage when i leave. Excess of weight!!! I just bought The Wind up Bird Chronicles! and of course i used my 30% off coupon at Borders.
@Randomanthony: i'll check your Murakami Shelf.
Again thanks Jim and Leslie for your suggestions.
I met someone on my trip this week who was happily traveling with his first generation Kindle. Meanwhile, in addition to my giant bag of clothes and shoes, I had a backpack full of three library books (one I was almost finished with, two because I wasn't sure which I would be in the mood for next), a book-on-CD for the drive, and assorted magazines that I've fallen behind on reading. (And all of this to stay at my mother's house, where the book collection rivals any lending library.)For the first time, I saw the value of a handy little machine that takes up a quarter of the space of a single book. It doesn't need to replace the beautiful, tactile books I live with, but it sure would free up space in my luggage. Maybe when the price comes down...
Anthony--of course not!! I'm glad you said something! I'm going to have to get The Wind-Up Bird Chronicles. Everyone who's read it says it so good!Sarah--I know what you mean, I always have to bring more than one book on a trip, how do I know which one I'm going to want to read, right? And I always bring a collage book, too, just to have something beautiful to look at. They do get heavy!
oh my.. if they don't fit in my luggage i'm going to carry them with me.. i'll do anything except leaving my books.
Also If you have an abundance of books you could ship them on ahead.
Karencilla, do you know the fable about Sally and her 6th grade vacation packing skills?
Right now I'm making chicken and rice and organizing my school binders.

Right now I'm awake at 12:29AM. I fell asleep at seven with a slight fever. I'll get to sleep again soon, I think. I'm teaching pretty much straight through from 9:30 to 4 today. The spring semester seems endless sometimes.
@Kevin: thank you!!! hahaha@Jim: yeah, but i really want them to arrive with me... i heart my books hahah
@Sally: no, which one is it?
Thanks, people.Right now I'm kind of teaching. But the students are working in groups. Don't worry. They were sick of me talking, anyway.
I hear you Karencilla, and shipping can be an adventure sometimes.
The library is a mess? Or the depression?
I'm sitting in my office, pretty depressed at the messy piles of work I have scattered here and there, everywhere.

Right now I'm warming back up, huddling next to my space heater, after a chilly foggy walk to the bus stop, and a not-very-warm bus ride to work.
Croyle is a cool name, I agree! But I'm going to say, mentally, "k-roy-el" for a while. My apologies:)
I did too RA, but I was going to let it pass. Thanks for bringing it up, and it is a cool name.
Jim wrote: "I hear you Karencilla, and shipping can be an adventure sometimes."You think so??? i've never done it.

Anthony--not like I'm in a position to give advice, but apologizing when I'm unfair or grouchy towards her, talking to her about everything from as soon as possible, never shying away from a question, no matter how much I want to, being as honest as possible and telling her flat out that I'm not going to tell her something when I'm not, and having good talks in the car. The car is great--she can't get away!!! I've driven right past our house when we're talking about something important. She's knows she's not going to get home til we talk about it, so we end up talking about it. We have this game we play--if she wants to do something and I'm against it--we play court and she has to present her "arguements" to the judge--me, and then I'm the opposing attorney and present my arguements, then we cross examine each other, then the judge has to make a ruling. That works pretty good on some things. And laughing together as much as possible--that's the most important thing. I think my parents, without realizing they were doing it, shut me out when I was little, like ten, and then they couldn't figure out why I shut them out when I was a teenager.
Another subject I'm passionate about. Hope it wasn't too much and I need advice from people with teenagers, believe me!
