Feeling Nostalgic? The archives

Right now I'm ... Janine awesomeness
I've never thought about Joan this much before, but she's never bothered me. I always felt sort of in awe of her brazen confidence, and also a little concerned about her apparent perscription med use during one Academy pre-show, but I've never felt any animosity towards her.
I'm currently at my cousin's apartment in the West Village. She had her commencement ceremony (NYU Class of 2009), and my parents, grandparents, and aunt and uncle are taking her out to Masa.

Those book titles all sound fun. :)
I love The Ivy Tree. It goes great with Brat Farrar, Bunny.Thurber's great too, for wordplay and imagery.
Yay for library books! :)
Without library books, my existence would be so bleak!Every time I visit the library (and that's almost every 2 days), I check out more books!
Right now I'm celebrating the fact that I returned all 15 calls in my voice mail at work.I'm looking forward to an evening of Vietnamese food, old friends, and an 11 PM showing of the Rolling Stones' Rock & Roll Circus (possibly preceded by the 9:30 Yellow Submarine, but that seems like a lot of movie time instead of conversation). And THAT would possibly be preceded by a pop-zydeco band in the Square, if the weather holds, which looks doubtful.
Good for you, Nools.I'm unwinding after a rather stressful work day. I had one of those "Groundhog Day" meetings wherein the hard work I had been doing to meet the expectations from the last such meeting was dismissed as "not quite what I wanted." Arrrrrggggghhhh!
I felt like doing a Sally and setting myself on fire.
But I didn't.
It sounds like it deserved writhing, Larry. At least, mentally.Sorry you had such a frustrating and defeating meeting. Meetings are bad enough without that kind of thing.
Mudge!
That's it exactly, Bun. It's enough to drive me to drink. As a matter of fact ... I think I'll do just that!Watching either "The Reader" or "The Visitor" with neighbors tonight. Which is better?
The Reader is pretty grim, Larry. It starts grey in tone, and just gets bleaker.I haven't seen The Visitor.
Ended up seeing The Reader. Yeah, it was a bit of a downer -- but the acting was excellent. I enjoyed it a lot. Kate W. blew me away. I can't get her face (and her character) out of my mind tonight.Tomorrow night: The Visitor.

Sorry about the bad day,
Sorry about the bad day,
Catching up...hope your car is running, Buns.Right now I'm sitting in my very messy living room. We bought a car this morning. We pick it up later today. I'd be ok with sitting in a closet for about twelve hours. Too much stimuli.
I made applesauce cake doughnuts this morning! Pictures to come. :D
They are beautiful and puffy!

hahah! No, the wine just happened to have been scooted onto the stove to make room on my (teensy) countertop.
Those look yummy, Sal!We just got back from a really great bike trip near & around Silver Falls, OR. The bike show was puny, but riding around in 80 degree weather (about time too!) with a wonderful cool breeze, meeting unusual & fun people, and just letting all the stress go... ah, it was amazing & just what I needed after such a crappy week. Hooray!
I'm listening to Joe Cocker who is playing across the river in Iowa at Harrah's outdoor concert venue.
I am wondering where a girl needs to go to find people who would be excited about a Dante reading group. Or an anything reading group.I was informed that they would be found in college, but they are nowhere to be seen. T_T;
The Fort Collins Barnes and Noble has a reading group of new moms on Tuesday. Think they're reading Jane Austen right now.
The local library? I've seen several flyers posted for groups like that at my library... Maybe you should start something, Nools.
We did last summer, actually! (But Homecoming by Marilynne Robinson, not Dante.)I was just feeling sad because I have been kind of obsessed with a couple books lately, but my roommates at best would feign interest out of politeness and everyone else is still studying for finals. : / The way I should be... D:....

Which is pretty darned cute... and sort of verifies my theory that Joan's bitchy persona was mostly an act, just showbiz, a caricature... a public image she was trying to maintain.
