My bro knows when to stop the teasing. We all had a good talk last night about Dilly and I think we've decided we're gonna have an Irish wake-type celebration in her honor (any occasion for celebration and merriment is good).

Right now I'm shutting off the computer...I'll be back online tonight, in central South Dakota, if the hotel wireless works:)
I just finished going through dozens of boxes of weeds, and then washed my hands VERY THOROUGHLY. A few days ago I came across a book in a plastic ziplock bag in one of the boxes. Danger, danger! If a book is in bad enough shape to be baggied, I really don't need to see it. Or smell it, as the case may be. Some of you have asked about the boxes of weeds, and since there's been a large volume of them this last week (thanks to the library going to a shared collection, I think) I brought my camera today. There weren't as many boxes today as there were on Monday, but still PLENTY!
So I now have photographic evidence of the mountain of books I looked at. I will post them after I get home.
So many ratty paperbacks, so little time...
You know, that weeding sounds like it might be fun in theory but probably isn't in practice. Your verdict, ms. librarian?
RA, it IS fun to pull the yucky books off the shelves if you work in the branches. But yeah, not as much fun to look at those books once they arrive here at the Service Center. Amazingly, the library sends most of them to a reseller, and gets money back for them, despite their truly cruddy conditions. Some we just have to recycle, because they are falling apart, or are just too dirty to sell.
However, some of the books are pulled not because they are in bad shape, but because they aren't checking out very much, or at all. Those books, I look at much more closely, and often reassign to another branch. That's pretty fun.
right now i am working on 2' x 7' banners that i am making for my church. covered with large photographs of people that i or friends of mine around the world took, it is a celebration of people and cultures. having them printed by a local sign company we will have them in the entry-way of our church to show that we are about people and to help emphasis the wonderful variety of people around the world
How 'bout now?
It's from this spammy email I've gotten about 8 times now, but I always have to check and see if the orangutan is in it. He is. Then I click "delete."

Right now I'm finally headed off to bed with Joan Didion. Her new book has enchanted me. I can't wait to get back to reading, and I love that feeling. After 5 hours of work I've finally finished a 20 page paper. It's printed, hole-punched, and secured in it's schmancy binder.
Bed time.
edit: I just checked. It's not new. Only new to me, I guess.
(stop typing, Sally! Stop sharing blather with the interwebs! Go to bed)

"we will have them in the entry-way of our church to show that we are about people and to help emphasis the wonderful variety of people around the world"Kev, it sounds like you have a really cool church. Not at all like the one I grew up in.
I am in a cramped library cubicle, daydreaming over Boethius and reaction rates for enzyme catalysis (guess which one makes me want to die more?). The daydreamings are pleasant, but profoundly unproductive. The library is noisier than a library should be. I have three finals in the next two days... hurrah....
Envious of Sally and everyone else who will sleep tonight.
I love Boethius, Nools! Stick with the Boethius, not that enzyme thing:) Who wants to read about spit or whatever, anyway?
yup sherrie, we do. seems to me that it is the Gen-X'rs that need to be more open minded about people and culture. they are the ones most likely to be living in a time warp in a 1950's Bible Belt town. the photo's are from around the world but also include americans. just all are not white anglo saxon protestant. it's 2009 people. even Indiana is becoming a melting pot. embrace it and celebrate it. currently we (collectively) are standing shoulder to shoulder at the unemployment line with this wonderful variety. it's not us against them. time to help a neighbor and sometimes be helped by a neighborjust realized i was ranting to all of you. sorry. cool helmet RA
Nools! I was just thinking about you and wondering about your finals as we've not heard much from you these days (I know, I should talk.)
Good luck on your finals!
Good luck on your finals!
Good luck to all of you on your finals. I think I've been experiencing sympatico sleeplessness. Sheesh. I don't envy any of you those looong days and sleepless nights of studying and writing and preparation. (((hugs))) And YOU'RE DOING GREAT! Keep up the good work.On a somewhat related note - I sure did sleep last night, though.
I'm glad I'm off the bus, which was kind of smelly today. What IS it with the Evergreen students (not all of them, just a certain group) who decide to have dreadlocks, eat lots of soy and brewer's yeast, not bathe much, and instead of deodorant, burn a lot of sage? This is not necessary for living a responsible life!

Poor BunWat.
Kev, it's a good rant... or perhaps just a quick heartfelt purge. We all need that once in a while.I might actually visit a church like that if I found one that was that open & embracing... although, my favorite church is outside listening to nature & feeling the earth. It doesn't make you wear a skirt or talk to people you don't want to or make casseroles to bring to potlaches where everyone pretends to be happy but secretly is a place to spread gossip. Hmmm.... I may just be more cynical than I realize.
Bun, if you stop WaItInG... they might just come sooner. ;)
Yes, try turning on the shower. That always works for me. Nothing like nudity to get the ol' doorbell ringing.
I wish American Idol would be done already. I'm tired of everyday conversation around here revolving around Kris Allen and swine flu... I don't really have any personal thoughts about either. I imagine after next week's results, the Kris Allen convo won't go away. What's uninspiring, in partcularly, is that I'm sure when the hype dies down, the new topic of conversation will be more akin to something about mosquitoes or watermelon or how unbearably hot it is because that's what people talk about during the summer months. That or baseball.
Bravo Sarah!!! See? All the world's ills can be solved by reading... well, it sounds good anyway. If not, then I think the nekkid option might do the trick. :)
I don't care. I like Joan Rivers. And Kathy Griffith. At least they don't lie about what they've had done.
I guess I don't see them as mean, Kevin. Irreverent, and self-deprecatory at the same time, sure. They both mock themselves as much as the celebrities they make jokes about. But then, I have comics I don't care for, too.
yeah, i guess i was being crass, opinionated, loud mouthed and mean too. perhaps i should shut my mouth :)
Yeah. Although, Kathy and Joan can be kind, when they want to be - they ask questions about the current events going on in the interviewee's life and are just as generous with a compliment as they are with a criticism when feeling it. Maybe that's why the celebs don't run in the other direction when they're around and most seem to greet both gals with hugs and/or kisses...
