message 1253: by [deleted user] (new)

Cinnamon is the best, and cinnamon and sugar on toast is really good.

message 1254: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Def Leppard - aw, the poor thing.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Hahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!! Larry!

Sarah (songgirl7) Wait, wait, wait... can we go back for a second here? Matthew read Proust in 9th Grade?????

In 9th grade I'm pretty sure I was reading Sweet Valley High. Geez. Color me impressed!

message 1257: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I was reading Mad magazine in 9th grade.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I was reading Anne McCaffrey and Mrs. Pollifax books in 9th grade. And Erma Bombeck, for some reason.

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments In ninth grade I was reading Phillip Jose Farmer and Roger Zelazny. And not kissing girls.

Cosmic Sher (sherart) | 2234 comments Erma Bombeck! I loved her books! My sister writes a monthly column for Gilbert,AZ that is completley EB style. Hi-larious!

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments i like an egg on my toast (apropos to nothing)

message 1262: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (songgirl7) You people need to start putting author links in your posts so I can know who you're talking about.

Anne McCaffrey
Erma Bombeck
Roger Zelazny

The other ones don't come up in a search...

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I think I read some Zelazny in 9th grade, too. And was not kissing girls.

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments erma bombeck: the grass is always greener over the septic tank

message 1265: by Cosmic Sher (new)

Cosmic Sher (sherart) | 2234 comments Exactomundo!

message 1266: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments my mom always liked erma and i thought she was cool and funny for an old lady LOL

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Not exactly typical 9th grade reading material, though. I think my parents must have had her books in the house, and since they were funny, I read 'em.

message 1268: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments my mom introduced me to James Whitcomb Riley

message 1269: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments in book form as he was long worm food by the time i was born

Cosmic Sher (sherart) | 2234 comments Ooh! Those are so creepy. Had a very bad experience in high school and will not touch one now. No, no, no.

message 1273: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Yes, Sherrie, they are creepy.

message 1274: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I'm winding down after an over-the-top James Taylor concert tonight here in Omaha. He is just an unbelievable performer. I know RA, you hate him. We were about 11th row center in the fairly small (2500) Civic Auditorium.

I had comp tickets because my friend has toured with him a lot over the past couple of years as a sound engineer. He's not on this part of the tour -- but is going with him to Europe in June.

Excellent show! James is a certified crazy man. Excellent band with him, too.

Okay. I'm off to bed now.

message 1275: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (songgirl7) Huh. My mom saw him live years ago and said he was boring.

message 1276: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Well, okay then.

message 1277: by Cosmic Sher (new)

Cosmic Sher (sherart) | 2234 comments Lar, you had a great time and that is what counts! I'm happy for ya. ;)

message 1278: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Yeah, Larry, I'm just glad you got out of the house and did something (you consider) fun. You work so much you deserve a night out.

The semester is rapidly coming to an end....three more classes...two of them today...

message 1279: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments yesterday's rain has ceased for the moment, the birds are singing, the day looks like a good one, i have had my cereal BUT if i don't get some coffee pronto things are gonna start getting ugly

On a somewhat related note, the school mascot for the Arkansas School for the Deaf is the leopard. They call themselves "the Deaf Leopards."

Félix (habitseven) Jackie "the Librarian" wrote: "I think I read some Zelazny in 9th grade, too. And was not kissing girls. "

No?

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Randomanthony wrote: "In ninth grade I was reading Phillip Jose Farmer and Roger Zelazny. And not kissing girls."

Heh. Me neither, RA. Nor boys.

I didn't do any recreational reading in the 9th grade - I didn't have time (and that made me immensely sad).

Our assigned reading list:

Romeo & Juliet by Shakespeare (my fave of the year)
Lord of the Flies by William Golding
Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
Beowulf (author unknown)
Lamb to the Slaughter and other Short Stories by Roald Dahl (my second fave)
...and everything else was forgettable.

message 1283: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments yeah, Lord Of The Flies gives the willy's as a kid. not quite the parent-less nirvana that Box Car Children was

message 1284: by Heidi (last edited May 07, 2009 07:21AM) (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I ABHORRED reading Lord of the Flies. Dicks (for making it required reading).

message 1285: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Are you serious about the Deaf Leopard thing, Heidi?

message 1286: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments i think even the drummer for Def Leppard would applaud this name, well, if, well...... forget it

I didn't like it at all. I hope I don't have to teach it someday.

Larry, your concert sounded amazing. Is the civic auditorium indoor or out?

message 1288: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) It was Sally. Indoor.

Maybe he would just give a drum roll instead.

I thought it was bizarre, too.

message 1293: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments well, cultural music reference. only remotely funny if you know about the band

message 1294: by [deleted user] (new)

Kevin "El Liso Grande" wrote: "bad joke jim?"

OK, I'll refrain for the rest of the day from bad jokes.

message 1295: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments no, i meant my bad joke jim. not you. yours was much kinder than what i said. does anyone know what i was joking about?

I never know what's going on, ignorance is bliss :-).

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Kevin "El Liso Grande" wrote: "i think even the drummer for Def Leppard would applaud this name, well, if, well...... forget it"

I got it, Kevin! The drummer for Def Leppard cannot applaud, as he only has one arm anymore, after the wreck. And yet, he's still the drummer for the band, which I think is really cool.
Sheesh, you guys need to brush up on your 80's hair band trivia!

message 1299: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) That sounds like work, Jackie.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments You have to get your priorities straight, Larry.
