Nuri (nools) | 538 comments I'm sorry, RA. It's tough being away from family. I don't have kids, so I can't imagine quite what it must be like for you.... I hope you have a good day before they leave, even if you'll miss them anyway.

I've spent nearly the whole night listening to Arcade Fire, drinking tea, and writing about things I miss, haha. I should try to sleep a bit before Easter Service.

Sheila Hendrix (sheilahendrix) Just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Easter!

Just got home from the SIL with the rest of the family, ate way too much and thinking its time for a nap. My daughter is back from college and is resting, so this may be a good time to get some shut eye.

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Just be up by seven, Jim. There's a rubber game to view.

message 905: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Hi everybody - I hope you've all had a marvelous weekend of Easter/Passover/springiness. My family left this morning, and I have managed to go to the gym, go to the barn, and do my friggin' taxes. If I do laundry as well, I will get to wear my Super Productive Girl cape AND reward myself with a few hours to veg out and read.

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments i am with you sarah. whew! busy weekend. i am FINALLY in my chair with a diet coke and my dog by my side. ahhh

message 907: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Winding down the long weekend, preparing my mind to go back to work tomorrow. Reading and recording In Treatment on HBO (great series).

message 908: by Leshawn (new)

Leshawn | 109 comments Larry,
I'm hooked on "In Treatment" as well. Every time I sit down to watch one episode, I can't get up until I have watched 5. It's deadly for my schedule but wonderful to watch!

What is it about?

message 910: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) It's about a therapist. The majority of the program is the sessions he has with his patients. The writing is excellent -- and the actors are very good, too.

Try it -- you'll like it.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I'm so excited! I'm back at work, today. I'm out of the house and actually wearing shoes for the first time in a WEEK!

message 912: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Way to wear shoes! We're glad you're feeling better.

message 913: by Félix (last edited Apr 13, 2009 11:11AM) (new)

Félix (habitseven) Shoes, Jackie?

message 914: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments she's a librarian, not a hooker Larry

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Thanks, guys!
I think I must still sound pretty sick, but I doubt I'm contagious at this point.
I think my coworkers think I might be, though. I usually keep my office door open a bit, but I notice today whenever anyone visits me, they close it completely on their way out. Hmm...

message 916: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Is there a "Quarantine" sign on your door? That might be a clue.

message 917: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments or Hazmat?

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Larry, what the heck was that "shoe" display?

message 919: by Félix (last edited Apr 13, 2009 11:25AM) (new)

Félix (habitseven) Just silliness, Jackie. Just silliness.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Silliness: ACCOMPLISHED!

Gold star, Larry. : )

message 921: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Aw, gee. Thanks. ::blushes::

message 922: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (songgirl7) Right now I'm doing a happy dance because I just got a JOB, y'all! It's part time so I may even get to stay in school!

message 923: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments great news sarah. congrats. blessings as you start this.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Hurray, Sarah! What kind of job did you get?

message 925: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Congratulations, Sarah!

message 926: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Good luck with the new job, other Sarah!

message 927: by Sarah (last edited Apr 13, 2009 11:52AM) (new)

Sarah (songgirl7) It's a senior teller job. I was worried I wouldn't get it because I was overqualified (I have 12 years of banking experience, and have been an officer of 2 banks; they even told me I was overqualified) but I think they have plans for me to advance.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments So back to your old line of work, then? It's good you can use that experience and STILL go back to school, Sarah!

message 929: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (songgirl7) Yeah, I need to find out how long they think it would be before the hours increase. Right now it's 20-25 hours, and they said I'd get more hours later on. I need to find out what they mean by that, and whether or not they think I should register for the fall. I haven't yet, because I wanted to be open to any job.

message 930: by [deleted user] (new)

Congratulations Sarah, hope it works out that you can continue your schooling if you desire.

message 931: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments the only thing i am overqualified for is procrastination but i keep putting off applying for it

message 932: by Julie (new)

Julie | 568 comments Yeah, Sarah. Congrats.
I on the other hand have three more days of my good job (I have another, not-so-great job) as tax season 08 comes to an end.
I am excited about my mini-vacation coming up.

message 933: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Awesome, Sarah!

I have never understood this whole "overqualified" thing. What are they afraid of with people who know too much? I feel like I don't understand.

And Jackie and Larry, there's nothing wrong with those shoes...

Have a great minivacation, Jules...

Right now I'm home, alone, and getting ready to eat ice cream and watch Twilight.

I'm not kidding.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Getting in touch with your inner teen, RA?

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I'm taking a break, and eating chocolate and strawberries together. It's a great pick-me-up!

Two more hours of work to go, before I can go home and collapse, and cough unrestrainedly.

whew

THAT is awesome! :)

message 937: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (songgirl7) They don't want "overqualified" people because they don't want you to quit in 2 weeks when something higher-paying comes along.

I'm going to make peanut butter Rice Krispy squares to celebrate. And there may be some chocolate-dipping involved.

message 938: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Oh. I guess that makes sense. I don't know. I guess it depends on the situation.

Back to Twilight, which I have to say is pretty good so far.

message 939: by Leshawn (new)

Leshawn | 109 comments I was prepared to have difficulties with the film adaptation of "Twilight" after all the criticism I heard, RA. I was very pleased! In fact, I'd like to see it again very soon.
I loved the camera work. Oh and my appreciation of Kristen Stewart which was burgeoning before, grew!
Have fun!

message 940: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments RA, you've made my day... you and David Wallace Foster.

message 941: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments There was a huge bank robber/cop shootout two blocks from my work today! Some bank robber got shot and killed! The students are complaining the shootout messed up traffic.

I heard one student claimed the shootout as her excuse for missing class. Her class started at 9. The shootout was close to ten. Students, please, it's about good technique...

message 942: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Sign of the times.

message 943: by [deleted user] (new)

Maybe she is psychic and new it was going to happen so stayed away from the area.

Could happen.

message 944: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments I've noticed that an unusual number of the News of the Weird posts seem to be about foiled robberies these days. Or very creative ones.

It's pretty horrible that somebody got shot and killed and the complaint is that traffic was affected.

message 945: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Sarah Pi wrote: "It's pretty horrible that somebody got shot and killed and the complaint is that traffic was affected."

Also a sign of the times, maybe.

message 946: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Larry- Sorry for rephrasing you :)
There were several signs of the times in RA's story in my opinion...

message 947: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Yup.

message 948: by RandomAnthony (last edited Apr 16, 2009 01:53PM) (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments You know, what's weird about it is how...in stride...everyone's taking it. Some guy woke up this morning with a plan to rob a bank, got shot where we all get on the expressway, died, and...we just sort of went on with class and checked with the people who showed up a little late to make sure they were ok. And this isn't exactly a high-crime area, you know? I can't quite get my head around it. I don't want to sound mean or coarse...but it's kind of a big deal, I think, when someone gets shot on the street...but...what are you supposed to do? We just went ahead and had class. Know what I mean?

message 949: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Know what I mean?

I do.
