Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments that's terrific phil. my mom is a certified interpreter and teaches ASL classes at a community college here. a great additional language to learn. i know a little and it really helped when i used to wait tables and deaf people would come in. it gives them more dignity than just pointing at things on the menu. i was able to use sign language to talk to some deaf girls in haiti last year also. i am barely able to do more than spell so i think it's wonderful your daughter is learning this. you must be super proud of her

Thanks. We are.

janine | 7709 comments Sign language is one of those things I used to know. I can still say christmas and falling through thin ice but that's about it.

Angela~twistedmind~ (twistedmind) | 538 comments wondering if i'm ever going to get through all this damn e-mail. once i get behind it's a bitch trying to catch up!!
also, right now, i'm giving serious thought to giving in to the temptation of greasy fast food and an ice cold, bubbly coke.

message 6505: by [deleted user] (new)

Ha, my son seems to be picking up some signing. Only this week he used the sign for 'bull-shit". When I asked him what he was doing, he was only too happy to explain. ::sigh:: I assume it was correct. It was convincing.

message 6506: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I'm considering when I'll open my next Blue Moon -- and I'm about to click "Mark All As Read" because there's no way in hell I'll ever catch up with all the red "new" numbers. :(

I've become a TC slacker. Not pulling my weight anymore.

message 6507: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments I have discovered it's ok to be a TC slacker.

message 6508: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Thank you Janine. You're the best slacker I know.

Opened it yet?

message 6510: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) And a couple more.

message 6511: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I can't believe how many new posts there are already. Crap.

message 6512: by Janice (new)

Janice (jamasc) We're a chatty group, Larry.

message 6513: by [deleted user] (new)

But Larry wins the chattest of the chatty.

message 6514: by [deleted user] (new)

Or he used too.

message 6515: by Janice (new)

Janice (jamasc) We'll forgive him. He's in La-La Land (Disney World) in Orlando right now.

message 6516: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments Right now I'm trying to make the most horrible cheap wokda drinkable by mixing it with bitter lemon. Maybe I should have put it in the freezer first.

Jim | 6484 comments The wodka or the lemon?

message 6518: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I'm relaxing after a full Disney day. Glass of chardonnay tastes so good.

message 6519: by [deleted user] (new)

::Awards Larry a medal of honour. For services rendered beyond the call of duty.::

message 6520: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Ah thank you Gail. It was fun.

Janice (jamasc) Larry wrote: "I'm relaxing after a full Disney day. Glass of chardonnay tastes so good."

Just one? Go for the bottle.

message 6522: by [deleted user] (new)

He probably shouldn't go for the whole bottle. He may have to face another day with the kid tomorrow. Could be tough with a hangover.

message 6523: by Janice (new)

Janice (jamasc) Yes, it could be. But, don't we have a hangover remedy thread here somewhere? We TC'ers are helpful at the best and worst of times.

message 6524: by [deleted user] (new)

Ha, so true. Why stop at one then.

message 6525: by Janice (new)

Janice (jamasc) Exactly! Get to it Larry. Gail and I have decided.

I want me some Disney. Want it bad. Want Hawaii MUCH MUCH more Bad. More. Want.

message 6527: by [deleted user] (new)

I just received my daughters report card.
She got 5 A's, 4 C's and a D. This is pretty consistent with her results so far, she either applies herself or doesn't. The A's were in English (obviously not my child), Maths, Science, Music and Italian. The D was in religion (I am okay with the D). The C's, well it means she wasn't paying attention. Her results jump all over the place depending on what is taking her focus. Last year she got a D in English & Science.

So should I take her to task or let her be?

Hawaii, mmmmm.

Disney loud. Don't go in summer months! Best time is the weekend after Thanksgiving. Crowds return on Tuesday.

English, math & science are good classes to ace.

Were the C grades in core classes, too?

message 6530: by [deleted user] (new)

The only thing close to a core subject was history.

Phil | 11852 comments Gail «Cyborg» wrote: "The only thing close to a core subject was history."

I would congratulate her for bringing up the marks in English and Science, and say stuff like, "holy cow, look what you can do when you focus!" Let her soak it up for a while.

Later, begin the conversation again with, "I am so proud of you for getting those As. Just imagine how high your marks could be next year if you can bring the same focus to all of your classes."

message 6532: by [deleted user] (new)

Excellent advise as always Phil. I am actually very happy with the effort she has made to lifted her science and English mark. The English specially, the D resulted in her being dropped into a lower class. Science isn't graded yet.

janine | 7709 comments Jim wrote: "The wodka or the lemon?"

Wodka.

message 6534: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Does Wodka turn into tequila that way?

message 6535: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) We went to Disney in the summer mostly because my neice plays Cinderella in the summer -- and we wanted the grandson to see her as Cinderella. It was really cool. No, it was really hot out and crowded with rugrats -- but it's been fun in spite of it all.

All in all, Florida sucks. But it's been fun.

I also spend time dodging flicked boogers.

Does Lizzy need a tranquilizer?

message 6543: by [deleted user] (new)

We could give her one anyway. I have been looking for an opportunity to use my tranquilizer darts.

Stina (stinalee) | 749 comments I just whipped up a tres leche cake and some biscuits for strawberry shortcake AND cleaned the kitchen! Usually my cooking utensils sit in the sink, but I'm headed out of dodge tomorrow and am compelled to have a pristine house when I return!!

Couldn't we all use a tranquilizer?

message 6546: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Right now I'm trying to decide whether I feel more like going to buy extra socks and underwear or finding the number of the washing machine repair place. I'm glad this is a short week since I'm running out of clothes too.
